No Compromises Were Made on Monster Hunter 4′s Action Gameplay According to its Game Director

Game development is often the art of compromise and of accepting trade-offs to squeeze important features into a game while removing others in order to comply with the limitations of the hardware.

This is especially true with the 3DS; that is one of the least powerful platforms on the market. Apparently the development team of Monster Hunter 4 did not accept this kind of philosophy.

Of course they'll say that, they always do. Then the game is released and people realize they were lied to, but it's too late because they've already spent their money.

If it's that bad then they probably could have read reviews.

And the 3DS's power is not massive enough to effect the gameplay that much, unless they wanted to add something like completely destructible environments or the like, which Monster Hunter hasn't had in the past (and could ruin the game, IMO). Other than that there is nothing that the 3DS can't do gameplay-wise that the VITA, hell, even the PS4, couldn't do.

Since the dawn of 3D gaming, the fundamental gameplay of games hasn't been able to evolve much further, it's basically as advanced as it can get.

"Of course they'll say that, they always do."

They have never ever lied about anything related to combat mechanics. Hell I've never even heard of them lying about anything at all. The only "problem" with Monster Hunter games is that they're gradually getting easier and easier.

At least monster fatigue makes sense, along with improved hitboxes. (Looking at you plessy)

As much as i like the 3ds, compromises had to be made when making monster on 3ds, the controls and graphics isnt gonna be on par to say vita, wii u, ps3 etc and without a dual analgoue <most dont have circle pad>-- that doesnt mean the game wont be good because i think it will be awesome-- but there is shortfalls

Blacktric3873d ago (Edited 3873d ago )

"<most dont have circle pad>"

That doesn't change the fact that the game does support it and it costs 20 dollars. And as for someone who have played the demo (which doesn't support CPP unlike the full game) of 3U to death on 3DS, the monster lock on camera and, more importantly, the d-pad located on the bottom touch screen does the job fantastically. And nobody buys a Monster Hunter game for the graphics. They buy it purely for the gameplay.

AzureskyZ3873d ago

I didnt like the 3ds version of monster over the wii u version-- just because people dont play monster hunter for graphics doesnt change the fact that it would be nice compliment to have them-- the topic is about compromises-- clearly choosing 3ds over other platform has compromises--you say the attachment is only 20 dollars but thats an additional cost to be able to play the game how it should be played-- i wouldnt bitch if it was included. Im not implying the game is going to be bad nor am i saying 3ds is a bad system which it isnt but stop being a blinded fanboy-- the system has shortfalls and im simplying identifying my preferences.

Blacktric3873d ago

"but stop being a blinded fanboy"

Funny thing to say when you are practically conducting your own pissing contest in between two handhelds over a game that nobody cares which console it's on.

BullyMangler3873d ago

actually, monster hunter is better suited on a 3DS rather a vita due to the 3DS's SLIDER PAD / extensions < made specifically for adventure games . .

vita made for 1st person shooters with its prickly joysticks with even comfort issues to say the least

AzureskyZ3873d ago

What comfort issues? i have both systems and havent found any fault with vitas dual analogue which is far superior to what 3ds have offered-- i do have a gripe with vita though, the back touch pad seems to hinder certain games that utilize it-- personally it can do away with it and can be frustrating if the turnoff feature isnt available. Graphics is also better on vita, but i do prefer puzzle games and strategy games on 3ds( games like phoenix wright and layton is gold mine-- the additonal screen brings a depth the vita isnt able to bring. I suppose it all comes down to preferences-- ive played monster hunter since its first reception on ps2-- played the psp and wii version as well-- i just think its a title better suited on vita or home consoles--- as far as 1st person on vita-- call of duty and resistance both have been utterly unplayable-- im hoping killzone fare better but im not optimistic.
