The Death Of Nintendo Has Been Greatly Under-Exaggerated

I love Nintendo. I love Nintendo. I love Nintendo.
I feel the need to say that over and over again to begin with because this post will inevitably be read by some as some sort of anti-Nintendo screed. I know that because every single time I write anything mildly critical of Nintendo, groups of folks reveal themselves that make Android and iPhone diehards look like placid hippies. Those people are really going to hate this post.

"Meanwhile, the Nintendo 2DS will come out and will probably sell quite well at first thanks to a well-timed Pokemon release. But all the 2DS really is is an admission that the 3DS is ultimately a failure."

I don't get this line. How can anyone say this? Because it didn't sell as much as the DS one of the best selling console and fastest selling consoles of all time? By that logic, PS3 is a failure(Which we know is not true) because it has not sold as much as PS2.

mii-gamer3879d ago

logic is blinded by bias. Anyone calling the 3DS a failure needs to check their head for stupidity

klecser3879d ago

Gamers don't understand economics. They only care about their own feelings. The author doesn't like the 3DS, therefore the 3DS is a failure.

Its the worst sort of tautological circular argument.

Bubbles for 'Intelligent'

Anyways,Wow thie author of 'article' actually made Michael Pacther troll seem like the smartest guy in the room.

DoctorJones3879d ago

It's only sold over 30 million in 2 years, lolz what a failure!

Seriously, the guy who wrote this needs to give up his day job, and then give up writing articles to atone for his sins.

lilbroRx3879d ago

Actually, I think the DS is now the highest selling game machine in existence and the 3DS has been the highest selling game machine for over a year.

This is the logic of Nintendo haters though. They live in their own different reality.

ThePsychoGamer3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Hate to brake it to you, but the DS is the second best selling game system, with a total lifetime sales of 154 million units, the best selling game system sold 157 million units

PopRocks3593879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

@libroRX

DS is the best selling dedicated handheld/portable platform. It barely missed beating the bar set by the PS2 by a few hundred thousand. So you're not too far off, but your info is not entirely accurate.

Of course, for anyone who outright hates Nintendo, the DS was probably a failure to them too.

Misaka_x_Touma3879d ago

It has not yet passed PS2 but
it has reach 153.90m units less than 4 years than PS2.
2004-2013 DS has sold 153.94m units

PS2 from 2000-2013 has sold around 156m.

Concertoine3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

I think he means the 2ds is proof that the 3d feature of the 3ds is pointless, this making the 3d itself a failure.
But to be honest i dont think anyone saw 3d as a meaningful feature, including nintendo. More of a selling point. Great console nonetheless.

I guess to this writer, Death has a different meaning.

According to him, things still breathing and making money are apparently dead ???

What a weird person.

I agree that Nintendo's current situation is not so good. However there's no actual doom saying to be said yet.

We're about to have a WORLD WIDE Pokemon launch as well as a cheaper alternative to the 3DS on the SAME DAY. The 3DS has sold 33 million already. I hope you know where I'm getting at.

As for the Wii U, we'll just have to wait and see.

"Meanwhile, the Nintendo 2DS will come out and will probably sell quite well at first thanks to a well-timed Pokemon release. But all the 2DS really is is an admission that the 3DS is ultimately a failure."

what? lol, that literally made no sense.

DoctorJones3879d ago

I think the guy decided he would make an article, and then used his ass to type it out.

IcicleTrepan3879d ago

You said it. The 2DS is for children that can't use 3D yet and are more destructive with their things which is why it doesn't have a hinge. You can't lock the 3D off on a 3DS so a kid would just turn it on when the parents aren't looking, and 3D damages their young eyes.

It's perfect for that market. It's more of a notice that there's this extra niche market that they could be filling with a cheaper, simpler device.

DarkHeroZX3878d ago (Edited 3878d ago )

actually you can lock off the 3D setting in the 3ds. A parent can lock many features behind a 4 digit password at that.

hemmo19863879d ago

The 3ds is doing well but the wiiu is another story and I really dont see any room for it. I really wish nintendo would move away from the console market and become a third party developer than I could play their games on playstation!!! I cant justify spending money on a wiiu just to play a few nintendo games

PSNintyGamer3879d ago

You said it yourself, the 3ds is doing well. For them to go third party, the Wii U and 3DS would have to be selling horribly. If they ever do drop consoles, what's stopping them from going hand-held only?

bromtown3879d ago (Edited 3879d ago )

Nintendo handhelds outsell Sony handhelds hand over fist and they've had no serious competitor in that market since they entered it. Console wise, since the NES they've been gradually declining in sales until the Wii, which blew everyone out of the water sales wise. Console wise the Wii U is a return to previous form for them, before the Wii blip, they sell consoles to their fans - they have difficulty attracting new customers, that's their problem in the console market (and they could calm down with the gimmicks). But they're fine. Nintendo will live on even after Microsoft and Sony pack in the console game. Someone will always want a new Mario, Zelda or Pokemon game.

Concertoine3879d ago

Everyone makes this point but i feel like at least some of the wii owners will pick up the new wii u. Even if the wii casualized hardware, it brought in a huge audience for next gen which is a great thing for the industry.

How long until they get sued and it gets taken down? I say a month or 2

PRIMORDUS23h ago

Sued for what? It's just an emulator no ROMs are with it. ROMs are easy to get anyway, but with iPhone you can't just copy and paste like Android unless it's jail broken I think. Anyway Nintendo should be more concerned with their ROMs up to torrent for years for all of their concoles, but then again they can't do nothing about it, they never will and I love it. 🤣

NotoriousWhiz21h ago

As long as it isn't emulating the Switch, it'll be fine.

RonnySins21h ago

Naaah! Don't want to waste time emulating on iPhone.

Knightofelemia20h ago

Won't belong before Nintendo bangs on Apple's door to have the emu removed. Like I say you take down one six more take it's place. Problem is people are putting emu's on such stupid platforms. The good emus are the ones not on stupid platforms like a red target. The good emu's are word of mouth and keep a low profile.
