Lightning Returns will be a good game, and Square Enix looks like they have got their stuff together. Yes Hitman Absolution was terrible. Yes Deus Ex Human Revolution could have been better and yes they could have quit making FF13 sequels.

But it seems that SE has made up for 13-1 with 13-2, as well as finally showing the world that FFV13 is still alive and KH3 is being developed as we speak.

Is it strictly speaking every single guy's dream? No. It's more a turn of phrase, to point out that it has many elements that really speak to guys.

Why do you think these movies sell like they do? Because they're cynically marketed very directly at males or females. That was my point.
Transformers has huge machines, explosions and Megan Fox (at least used to) and Twillight has dominant, strong and protective males. Do you disagree with this being what males and females want? Well, take a look their box office performance and the demographics of their movie-goers.

The - first - thing is that when first introduced, Lightning wasn't a sexualized character. She was just a female character in a serious situation, and a panned game.

For whatever reason Square decided to continue what became "her" story though she wasn't the main or even a playable character in a second segment which was more about franchise pandering.

Now for what's suppose to be the final installment in her story she's been needlessly sexualized with even more pointless costume changes while still being in what is suppose to be a serious situation.

At some point, once upon a time, the FF series tried to recognize its international audience. The excuse for FF13's general and linear mechanics were to "appeal to a wider market". And yet now for the 3rd game they've resorted to pandering to J-fans and fetishist.

For those who want to play this game please enjoy, just don't come into articles how good it is and everyone should play it should it sell worse than FF13-2. Accept that not everyone wants to see constant out-of-context jiggling in their JRPGs.

Keeding. Even though Lightning Returns is already being plagued with costume DLCs way before release, Japan is the core target here. Japanese gamers still like Lightning, and while I'm not sure if she's still the favorite, she did win or at least ranked in one of the highest in a FF main character popularity poll.

In any case, it seems like people like to focus on unimportant stuff and make big deals out of em, rather than paying attention to the important things.
