Sony: PS4 UK Pre-order Levels Are "Unprecedented" In 20 Years of Business

SCE UK head Fergal Gara talked about how the country represent a significant proportion of PlayStation 4 pre-orders and that these numbers are "unprecedented" in 20 years of the business.

Sony is setting the agenda, they should be applauded for their pro-gamer policies, their genuine appreciation of what gaming is and what it means to people and also for allowing us all to become truly excited once again when it comes to console gaming. Oh wait, they already have been rewarded with unprecedented pre-order sales both here in the UK and worldwide.

Now some off-topic stuff:

@insomnium2 I see your comment was marked as "trolling". There seems to be quite some abuse of the bubbles and votes system recently, or is that common place and I've simply not noticed it before now?

insomnium2 holds an opinion hoping that the ps4 blows the xbox one out of the water and sees this as being some kind of service to gaming - while that may be a somewhat biased and harsh opinion, I don't see that he/she shouldn't be allowed to believe that or state it. It's certainly not "trolling", especially in a news article stating how unprecedented ps4 pre-orders are (especially when you consider possible reasons behind those pre-orders being so high). So what's up?

How is moderation/reporting/etc. handled here? Is it simply a matter of a script counting up negative votes until a limit is reached then -boom- you get marked for spam/troll/etc? Or does someone have to push a button to confirm it?

I see MariaHelFutura was marked for trolling in a similar at-worst-borderline post and could now be on a temporary ban because of this? Is there a new crack-down on semi-borderline posts or is this just a coincidence and an accumulation of similar incidents? Or is there some kind of fanboy war being waged with bubbles? Seems really odd!

Many people here are claiming that the PS2 era is back but imo will it only be back if it has the variety and quality of the PS2. Believe me I want it but I'm not holding my breath, not because of Sony which imo are one of the few publishers that isn't afraid of trying something new, but because 3rd party publishers have the $ sign in their eyes and that usually means CoD copy and paste.

You know when things are going so well you're convinced it's all going to go wrong in the end ... ? It won't, but this is just TOO good at the moment. It's all going to come down to production and distribution. Let's hope that Sony can meet demand sooner rather than later, and let's hope that the larger majority of people have the patience to wait for the next shipments before Christmas and not opt for another console for fear of missing out on a gift for their kids.

Yeah patience is a virtue but honestly Sony this time around has many things on their side. Mainly backing the core gamers this gen and always giving gamers in general new and great ips. Word of mouth has done wonders for certain Sony games and services (ps plus) and i think that when ppl get that ps4 in their hands before others their word of mouth will cause ppl to wait for the restock and keep ppl from buying any other. I have a feeling high demand will continue for awhile regardless of shortages, competition, etc.....

I also think that people are underestimating the power of long term PS3 support. It shows commitment to their strategy and assures console fans that Sony mean what they say. Who would have thought that in the year leading up to the biggest next gen launch in history, Sony would still be offering what could arguably be their best PS3 line up to date. Just incredible.

On topic, it's saying a lot, that the preorder numbers are so high. At the same time, though, it's gotta be tempered with the fact that preorders are far more common now than they have been in the past. Sure, they existed twenty years ago, but nowhere near the level of today.

Even so, the numbers in all regions are crazy for the PS4. I'm proud to say I'm counted among them.

I look at my pre-order receipt often just waiting for the day. I was lucky enough to get to play on PS4's and use the DS4 at PAX Seattle this past weekend. So I have a taste of the greatness to come. I'm still mind blown over just how good AC4 BF looked and played.

Yes, played both. DriveClub was very much like Gran Turismo but with some other features. Like it takes pictures of your real face via the camera. So when you are your friends are out racing and one goes by. You see a little avie of his face above the car with his screen name, lol. The controls are somewhat touchy at first. But by your second lap around, you've got the hang of it.

Killzone is very sharp in graphics. Like real 1080p playing. It has a very crisp Dobly sound to it. When you shoot other players you can see blood spraying off their bodies.

I hope so-the little dents on the dpads for where you put your thumbs might leave a scratch/burn mark or callus after long playtime-some guy said that about xbox one and since ps4 buttons about the same it might be the same problem in the future

The controller is worlds better my friend. The toggles are very stiff with no free play at all. The triggers are curved as all know by now. The weight of it feels the same as the DS3. The size of it is very deceiving in pictures. Once you hold it and start playing. You will not notice the difference at all. The touch pad is right there in thumbs distance. It's the prefect full make over period.

See the things is, you say I will not notice the difference in size at all once I start playing, but I WANT to notice the difference. I wouldn't mind it being bigger, and I definitely want it to "fill" the insides of my palms, versus the way the Dualshock 3 does not. It's hard to just explain it in words, but the way you hold a Dualshock 3 kind of forces you to form your hands to the controller, instead of the other way around. The only reason it wasn't a problem is because it's the same form that's been with PlayStation since the beginning, so we're all used to it, but with the 4, I want to be able to fully grip it with my palms, naturally.

I guess what I'm saying is, it's not big and bulking. Sure the handles are bigger. But it's not a distraction bigger as one would think. I would say, wait until you get it in your hands. You'll love it. Hence why everyone else does as well. Even game developers on 3rd parties. ;)

I think what ZBlacktt is saying is that you would not notice that you're even holding the controller. Thats a testament to how comfortable it is to hold (would kind of answer your question about your palms being filled properly) and the amount of trial and error Sony must have done with the DS4 to get it just right.

No one, from critics, journalists, game creators etc. Have said anything negative about the DS4. It has been getting praised left and right for its functionality, comfortability and overall well thought out design.

I hope they have the DS4 for sell before the actual PS4 release so I can go buy an extra one just to hold and enjoy. I was able to dl the same with the PS2 as well as the PS3.

I think Sony is going to be really big with pre orders amongst people who know whats going on, but xbox might make up some ground after release amongst people who don't know like moms and kids and stuff. PS4 will still be the clear victor at least this year.

Moms will go in a store for Xmas, see a 400$ PS4 and a 500$ XBO....and think for that price i could get a PS4 bundle with camera, game and an extra controller ( for houses with multiple gamer kids)
