Why GTA 5 will be the greatest video game in history

To be the greatest it takes more than just sales. It takes time and development. Rare's GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark for the N64 shares some similarities to what Rockstar has done with GTA V.

Yes it is a perfect end to this gen, but we need to play it first before we give it that title

Lord_Sloth3887d ago

I agree but I can't see a downside to the game at this point. The online looks amazing too! I look forward to playing this game with my brothers.

AbortMission3887d ago

I totally disagree with disagreeing with claud3 Lol

timl2413887d ago (Edited 3887d ago )

Well it would have to be better than The Last Of Us, and I just can't see that.

TLOU did something that not a lot of game do and that is have the characters connect to the player. I'm not so sure GTA will do that and that's because you play as 3 people. How can you really connect when you're switching from character to character? GTA will be a great game, but not even close to the greatest of all time. And certainly not close to TLOU.

christian hour3887d ago

As well as that, GTA's stories and characters tend to be characatures or spoofs on american culture of their respective timelines, so to expect the story or characters to have the same impact or underlying messages on par with TLOU is a bit outlandish.

Personally I'd give my GOTY to The Last Of Us because it was a fresh experience. GTA will always be GTA.

Conzul3887d ago (Edited 3887d ago )

At this point it'll be like pitting perfection against perfection....meaning it'll come down to personal preference or genre-preferrance.

♥ TLoU for me though ♥

axerated3887d ago

I totally agree about the characters being the integral part of the experience, but I also think that this game has the potential to give us that connection. The way I see it is that the characters in the last of us spoke to us in the way that characters in a book or award winning film might; they are limited in number and completely fleshed out but in a somewhat condensed timeframe. I can see the characters in GTA 5 being more reliant on the gradual unravelling of their backgrounds/personalities through repeated exposure, more like say the sopranos or breaking bad, taking a longer time to show all aspects of their characters before we're able to recognise how we feel about them. Or something like that...

Thatguy-3103886d ago

Exactly! GTA isn't known for it's engaging story or deep characters. GTA is basically known for how well the world feels in the game. Have no doubts that it will make an impact in ragrds to open world but narrative wise the game wont touch TLoU or even Bioshock Infinite.

HammadTheBeast3886d ago

Unfortunately, The Last of Us is in a weird spot. Everyone knows it's an amazing game, it's more than proven itself.

But it's an exclusive. So you have people who say it's the best for that reason only, and others who say GTA V is better because they've never played it, and don't know the experience.

GTA V looks to be amazing, what GTA IV should've been. Ballad of Gay Tony was a great step in the right direction, I can't wait to see the game in 2 weeks.

JustPlay43886d ago

We don't need to compare the two, they are and will be the best of this gen no mader what,

This game will evolve into a map the size of the world. It has the potential to run for years. GTA 5 will more than likely see its way onto next gen consoles. GTA online will definitely be there so as the game will be capable of running a map of this scale. What we see now is probably just the tip of the iceberg. Think about it, running on much more inferior machines with 256mb of ram @ present, and coming onto machines that are 10x more powerful, with 8000mb of ram. The possibilities hold no bounds for R* :)

Here is an interview that CVG had with Leslie Benzie, president of R* nrth. These guys have went to town on GTA V in terms of analysis and every piece of information they could get on the game. The interview is long, but if you have the time I would really recommend you take a listen. Its mindblowing!

GoldenEye 007 and Perfect Dark is perhaps the two greatest FPS games ever

GTA V looks to be one of the greatest games ever, british developers are some of the best

DK, GE007, Banjo, Perfect dark, GTA, burnout, shadow man(N64), conker etc..

almost every big British game is a 10 out of 10

ScamperCamper3887d ago

Never thought about the UK connection. Good point! Heck, great point!

Majin-vegeta3887d ago (Edited 3887d ago )

R* is British?I thought there HQ was based in the U.S?

@Ape oh ok i see now.

ape0073887d ago (Edited 3887d ago )

yep R* north is British , the team that make GTA games is Scottish, they were DMA design in the past, they made great games in the past like Body Harvest and silicon Vally, both these games were "GTA" at heart

the last game they made under the "DMA Design " name was GTA 3 and they changed that "DMA" intro in the Xbox version (gta double pack in 2003)

fossilfern3887d ago

Yeah its British, RS North is up in Scotland.

Psychotica3887d ago

The HQ is in New York, but this was created by the folks in their British division

Blastoise3887d ago

You forgot LBP!

But I agree, GTA V is gonna rock

mafiahajeri3887d ago

Dang I hope MM are working on LBP3 that game has so much charm. I still remember playing the originals beta, good times...

lnvisibleMan3887d ago (Edited 3887d ago )

@ ScamperCamper and Majin-vegeta

The president and vice president of Rockstar, Sam Houser & Dan Houser are British. They used to work for a british publisher called BMG Interactive before being purchased by the American publisher Take two. Sorry that I cant give you specific dates.

GarrusVakarian3887d ago

So far it looks like its right up there with GTA:SA for me.

mafiahajeri3887d ago

Gta V will have something to say about that.

The_Devil_Hunter3887d ago

The Last of Us and GTA are both different games but I would prefer TLoU any day over a sandbox videogame.

MysticStrummer3887d ago

Some people prefer the more focused games instead of open worlds. My little brother is one of them.

As usual, it's all about opinions.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing691d 6h ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos1d 4h ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius17h ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy851d 3h ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius17h ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
