Hands On: Kinect for Xbox One

We went in assuming that Kinect was a gimmick, very much as it was last time around. With the exception of the unfinished facial expression tracking though, and a couple of minor quirks that could very well be down to the fact that we were looking at in-development software in a room packed full of people, we came out with our heads swimming with game ideas.

There is potential for this to be much better received by the gamers and developers.

And...with one in every box, that potential doesnt have to be squandered. Incorporating traditional with motion gameplay mechanics seems to be the sweet spot MS is aiming for this time around.

Being given the right balance of support from the ground up as opposed to being an afterthought like their first time out.

Well said. Bubble time. Hope you don't get too many disagrees.

"However, words mean very little, and it’s only when you actually see it in action as we did that you really start to believe that the bullet-point lists of improvements are actually true."

"Some people just don’t want motion-controlled games and that’s fair enough. But for those of us that do, there’s an absolute ton of promise here. More than we realised up to this point, in fact. It’s also promise that to some extent, we've seen fulfilled with our own eyes by the likes of Project Spark and Kinect Sports Rivals, two titles we had a chance to take a closer look at, and that really caused us to start believing."

-Good read from some open minded folks. I just want to mainly use it to add little gameplay elements to games like DR3, and KI etc does and of course the UI functionality sounds really cool.

Honestly, i think the future is a version of this set up:
-Occulus Rift
-Virtuix Omni
-Kinect 2
Yes the Kinect 2 looks good, but i dont want it paired up with a weak xbox - innovation comes to PC

How different would the picture be if XBox One came with Oculus Rift instead of Kinect 2.0?

I know I'd be more likely to buy a One if that was the case, and I wouldn't think twice about the extra $100.

oculus rift makes me drool.

Amazing technology for sure, but it still needs to show usefull and meaningfull applications for this technology to justify its incluision with every One at a premium price.

I think a 1080p cam will be good for a lot of things, including video calls.

Balls. In 6 months after launch it will follow the first one. It will be classed as a pointless gimmick. It's not if it works or not. It's is the whole waving / shouting compelling, long term. I say only fanboys and non gamers will buy into the nonsense

andibandit3884d ago

well thats only like 95% of the worlds population

strickers3885d ago

Same for Move( although that actually works) and Wii is worst console I've ever owned/ used.

Gonna say this again and a millions time more,if you don't feel what you're doing aka holding a controller then this is pointless, hardly something that you'll immerse in.

As for it's possibilities .. sure,it has many potential; just not in GAMES.

Waving your head/hands/legs is hardly enjoying your video games, much more like a chore or exercise to be called a gaming peripheral.

The face sculpting thing is kinda cool though,I'll give them that.

im thinking small steps, like lean you head to lean around a corner in a fps. id prefer 2 buttons to do it, but im running out of fingers
