Nintendo Announces the 2DS; Unfortunately They Are Serious

The announcement came out of nowhere and has most Nintendo fans at least a bit confused (I know I am quite confused, hence why I am taking the time out of my day to write this fantastic article). Nintendo announced the 2DS, a tablet like handheld console. The Nintendo 2DS will be similar to the 3DS in terms of interface and the fact that they will play the same games (both 3DS and DS games), but there will be a few key differences.The main difference will be the lack of a 3DS setting, hence the name 2DS (isn't Nintendo so clevar...?) i like the idea. I dont see what the big deal is about. those who want a 3ds...get a 3ds. Those who want the cheaper 2ds...get the 2ds. those who have no interest in either...pay it no mind.

Nintendo is trying something to broaden their appeal. Im getting one just because it seems to be rather obscure like some of their other offerings: wii mini, snes jr, top loader nes.

Nintendo have repeatedly stated in the past they have a three pillar approach to handhelds.

3DS, 3DS XL and now 2DS. What's the problem?

It's actually pretty clever (technically) that the 2DS is actually one screen split in two.

I would be interested in a cheaper 3DS, but the fact that I can't fold it kills it for me. I don't know how I should fit it in my pocket.
