Microsoft's Major Nelson Confirmed Xbox One Hasn't Been Hit by Production Issues

That story is completely untrue.

Lucreto3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

Well it is good news then.

Saying that they would not come out and say there are production issues.

Tw1tch3D3885d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

The date will show us otherwise and if rumors about Nov. 8th as the release date is true, well there goes another negative rumor down the drain hole.

I mean, if your not an insider, why bother making such ridiculous claims?!....I know why, because they're fanboys. Because it's mostly wishful than it is anything relevant just like hUMA being exclusive to PS4, which wouldn't matter because both have HSA.

Talk about blowing things out of proportion.

PSVita3884d ago

What in the world are you going on about..

Lucreto3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Well Microsoft doesn't have the track record of being up front.

Major Nelson said the DRM can't be removed by flipping a switch and the next day it was gone.

Then Greenberg said there was no delays in Europe and hours later there were delays.

I don't fault the people they have a job to do. The behind the scenes guys are telling them to do this. I don't like the Not true, not true oh it's true. They should keep silent and not deny it and then confirm it later.

ZodTheRipper3884d ago

It wouldn't be their first time lying if you look at the last few months.

SilentNegotiator3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

It still doesn't make sense that it got delayed because they couldn't get voice control for a few countries done. The multi-billion dollar company couldn't afford to get another team or two to complete the voice controls for 8 countries?

Seems more to me that they decided not to finish the voice work for the countries that they needed to cut, leaving a much more appealing story to investors of "we need more time to finish the details" than "we're having difficulties keeping up with demand" and without technically lying to investors.

Trekster_Gamer3884d ago

Yeah Sony has a great track record.. I mean there system was compromised and they waited a month to tell users... Removing system features like dual booting and ps2 compatibility .. Yeah that's a great track record... Sony is up front my arse...

grassyknoll3884d ago

The whole point of hUMA is it's one pool of memory. Xbox One has 2...

Diver3884d ago

How does that put another negative rumor down the drain? They drastically slashed the number of countries where they're gonna launch. A statement about no production probs isn't gonna change that fact. An they can say UI this an localize that all they want but at the end of the day they are launching in far fewer territories.

In the US, the prime Microsoft area they are sold out with a quarter of the stock numbers Sony will launch with.

falviousuk3884d ago

@diver can you back that statement up with some facts about how many units bith companies have available in each region for launch and post launch, nope i didn't think so

Diver3884d ago

Know how to use the internet? No didn't think so. Just look at retail reports on preorders. This ain't 2005 buddy.

pixelsword3884d ago

Wasn't it an insider who leaked that in the first place?

humbleopinion3884d ago

HUMA is just a buzzword for Cache Coherency implemented by AMD.
And it's not that much of a big deal: My Samsung Galaxy 3 (and any equivalent ARM based phone) has the same thing.

christocolus3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@lucreto and others

Give ms a break...nelson and greenberg didn't lie about nothing. The console in its current state as at may 21 was built around the drm, ms did indeed have to make adjustments and reprogramme stuff to change that and also how is it being delayed.its releasing in europe but not all regions will get it on day one due to local content customization for the console in those areas so your logic fails..still wonder why some guys are quick to rush to post negative comments here. Do you have an insider at ms who tells you other wise? Or you got someone at china or taiwan at the assembly factory where the consoles are being manufactured? imo if the xbox one doesn't interest you then don't get it....its easy as a b c.

andrewsqual3884d ago

@Lucreto I agree and if a Microsoft employee goes on Twitter and says something around the lines of "Like who cares if we will have to delay the console in all of Europe. You all act like something was never delayed before", IMMEDIATELY fire him and still keep your mouth shut and deny nothing. Because that wasn't a train wreck the last time it happened. :)

In all seriousness though, has there been any retail games to date apart from Forza and Ryse actually shown running on Xbox One hardware yet? The lack of a release date just adds fuel to this.

So, according to Major Nelson, one of China's leading economic news sources and leader in online media just fabricated the entire story? Out of the blue? Just made the whole thing up?

They certainly aren't running this story as a rumor. In fact, the news is related to the Taiwanese company, Global Unichip Corporation, that's making components for the Xbox One and it's impacting their stock price. Major Nelson had better call up the Taiwan markets and let them know it's not true, that it's just baseless speculation coming out of that region!

http://udn.com/NEWS/STOCK/S...

creatchee3884d ago

They could have been misinformed. That's always possible, no? I mean, it would be the first time EVER that the media has gotten a story wrong and all, but still...

SmokeyMcBear3884d ago

that's what I didn't get. Why would a publication in china, the country in which the product is being manufactured, make up a story for hits. They have nothing to gain from this news.

Foxgod3884d ago

You clearly dont understand the business model of news if you think they gain nothing from it.

Blaze9293884d ago

lol at you all thinking the media understands integrity...

Anon19743884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Other news sources are confirming the shipment downgrade as well. Just have a look at the news for the company making parts, Global Unichip Corp. So, maybe they haven't been hit by production delays, maybe that's made up for some unknown reason.

So what part is he denying? The production part? The cut in shipment forecast numbers? We aren't talking no name blogs making these claims here. This news is currently impacting the stock of companies involved in the XBox One's production, and the details are quite specific. You look up the news for Global Unichip and the financial reporters are certainly treating this as fact.

http://www.dividend.com/new...

BallsEye3884d ago

OOooo right I forgot the media always tells the truth...NOT! You there in America should know better since 95% of stuff you see in your TV including news is hollywood BS. Still looking for that WMD in IRAQ?

Anon19743884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@BallsEye. So your claim is that the leading, Taiwan/Asian newspaper dealing with the semi-conductor and electronics industry, trusted source used by CNN, Cnet, ZDNet..etc..etc, they just made the whole thing up including specific numbers, specific parts causing the delay and company's impacted? That's what you're saying? Because semi-conductor newspapers are known for their terrible, tabloid journalism, right? They just make up things like this all the time and sit back and laugh while stocks bounce up and down? That's what you're selling?

There's no way Digitimes is making up all these details for the hell of it, to garner hits. Only someone blinded by their own cynicism would believe that. Expect Microsoft to confirm the ship forecast numbers have indeed been lowered but bet it'll be with a carefully crafted PR response that makes it seem like there's no big deal and everything is perfectly under control.

XboxFun3884d ago

Oh No!! A global plot from China to ruin MS's Xbox One and smear their good name.

Don't worry Darkride, I'm calling James Bond right now to take care of this problem.

Hello operator, get me James Bond and fast it's a world emergency!....Yes i'll hold.

Anon19743884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@XboxFun. For once I agree with you, although I'm not the one buying into the crazy conspiracy guys up above who think the media is just "out to get" Microsoft. :)

It is pretty ridiculous to assume that China Economic Daily just fabricated the entire report and all the specifics. Obviously this information has a source within the manufacturing industry in Asia, despite what Microsoft's PR is saying at the moment.

Narutone663884d ago

Those news sources darkride66 posted are not the same as those you see on the gaming websites. There's a big difference between a gaming news and technology/financial news. CNN and Reuters does linked to those sources darkride66 provided, so they are more plausible than some PR guy's twitter feed.

nukeitall3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

So news sources has newer been wrong before?

People never fabricate news? There has never been wrong information in the news affecting stock market?

Contrary to fanboys suggesting Xbox One has low demands, if MS wanted they could use this as an excuse if sales turn out to be low. Instead they say, no production issues. We just increased the clock cycle and specs on our hardware.

Does facts line up with rumor?

Until more official sources confirm, I will stick with facts.

Also, technically all consoles have production issues at launch. There is almost always higher demand than availability.

IcicleTrepan3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

update: thought this was about ESRAM issue. turns out it isn't. the article says it has to do with kinect housing and disc drive. Not sure why they would have problems with either of those.. they are likely buying the drives from another company and just plunking them in...

SharnOfTheDEAD3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Keep in mind, he also said you can't simply flick a switch to to get rid of DRM in an interview. It's hard to tell what he says is true or not. Also they aren't going to say they are having issues even if it's true, since it'll only cause more damage than good.

JokesOnYou3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

OK then can I see these numerous links to other sources that confirm micro IS having production problems?

No you cant provide anything new just old regurgitated rumors connected to the neogaf rumor about yeild issues and cpu downclocking which as it turns out X1 cpu/specs has been overclocked and improved which is hardly something you would see if there are yeild problems. Here we have the source saying the rumors are BS, yes if it was true they likely wouldnt confirm it, but you'd think they would just say nothing at all instead of emphatically denying it. Cleary production isnt as high as demand but thats normal at this phase. Still given the current X1 launch its bigger than 360's was so in terms of production problems unless you have something definitive that says otherwise you are the one making shiii up.

Edit yep u can diasgree but thats still NOT proof.

HammadTheBeast3885d ago

Why hasn't it been approved by FCC yet then?

Foxgod3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

What does FCC have to do with production?
You can ramp your production as high as you can, regardless of FCC.

FCC is just a checklist of approvals to checks for faults.

FullMetalTech3885d ago

Rumors are always gonna be rumors. But this is the same guy who said that you "couldnt flip a switch". Im pretty sure they are also not gonna come out and say they are having problems when it can refelct badly on them with the already 180s they have done. It could very well be they had an initial amount in mind and are shifting units to meet demand at this point. But i honestly cant take this guy seriously anymore.

DragonKnight3885d ago

@Foxgod: They can't legally sell the product without FCC approval. If they haven't received that, they'd be wasting money in a high production wave.

Foxgod3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@dragonknight,

If your argument was valid, they would have dropped the production completely, instead of dropping the shipping numbers by a measly 700k.
Which they btw, didnt.

FITgamer3884d ago

Would it make sense to mass produce a product before it passes through the FCC?

Skips3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

The same dude who said it's not easy to reverse DRM and went off on Angry Joe, then announced like 4 days later, they'll reverse it later with a patch. lol http://gengame.net/wp-conte...

HiddenMission3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Here you go...just so you know mods failed this because Major Nelson who has lied during interviews and is the face of XBOX PR said it's not true but provides nothing to support his it's not true statement...so take it what you will.

http://www.hispanicbusiness...

@Foxgod

You must have never worked in manufacturing before and it shows. You don't build hardware if you can't ship hardware. If the FCC came back and said several different key components failed then additional production costs would have to allocated to the Operations overhead to get the product up an running. This would translate to every affected unit would costing more...which would mean a loss at sell. Rework per unit costs can be very pricey and manufactures do everything they can to avoid this.

Foxgod3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Yes, its pretty common to start production ahead of FCC.
Because everybody knows the FCC regulations, so company's already know the requirements.
No company is gonna waste time and money by waiting for a formal approval of the FCC.

And usually, anything that doesnt pass FCC (bad shielding in cables for example) can be fixed after the product has been produced.

creatchee3884d ago

@HammadTheBeast

"Why hasn't it been approved by FCC yet then?"

http://www.neogaf.com/forum...

Albert Penello says: "And FYI – we passed FCC certification back in early summer, before PS4."

So can we put THAT rumor to bed too now, or are you all going to continue screaming "LIAR!" everytime a MS employee says something?

JokesOnYou3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

lol creatchee good find. Still fcc approval is not hard, they simply ensure code specifications that dont interfere with govt protocols and safety issues. Some bringing up fcc as if it means a production process or whatever is better. I mean if fcc approval was the default "its quality tested" label we wouldnt see products fail including RROD or YLOD defects.

rainslacker3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

I'd imagine most of the chips and specs involved in the X1 are already approved by the FCC. They just need final approval on the final design of the box. Sony was producing systems before they had FCC approval, and no company would announce a time frame for release unless they were sure it would pass FCC approval. These engineers know their stuff.

Now if by some off-chance they didn't get FCC approval(highly unlikely) then you'd see them having a huge issue, as it would mean possibly disassembling and remaking the offending part within the box. Not a cheap thing to do.

@Jokes

I think that label you're referring to is actually UL listing. It's an insurance thing to insure that the device won't blow up and stuff. Makes people feel all cozy, however I don't think that it is necessary to have in order to sell a product. It also doesn't insure that the device will be mostly free from defects.

FCC is there to insure that the devices don't interfere with other things that are protected from interference, typically communications and other electronics protocols. It's not hard to get FCC certification if a device is designed to get it. Most of those protocols are so standard, it's already in the design

JokesOnYou3884d ago

Rainslacker, yes that is what I was trying to get at. I mean the fcc approves almost anything unless there is some type of huge flaw, seriously if a manufacture cant pass fcc standards their R&D dept must be ran by 12 yrs because almost everything takes fcc regs into account in the early stages of development and unless you are a brand new company its like second nature to pass them because fcc standards are very unobtrusive to allow as much market innovation as possible= its good for economy.

DragonKnight3884d ago

@Foxgod: Not if they had filed to go through the FCC and are waiting for it to pass.

green3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Lol at Hammadthebeast and co using FCC. The ipad 3 was announced on the 13th of March 2012, then cleared by the FCC a day later. The product then hit shells a week after that. Time of FCC approval does not mean a damn thing. http://www.engadget.com/201...

I can afford them both easily but like this gen if I'm only going to play 1 most of the time it just makes sense to go with my favorite. I'll likely get a ps4 much later on though.

Deadpoolio3884d ago

6.2 unless the slash it down again...But then again of course major microsoft is going to come out and say that everything is sunshine and ponies...But cutting 21 countries to 13 and 7 million units to 6.2, says something completely different...It's not something they are going to say out loud if there are problems, which I would tend to believe that obviously there are with number slashing and they still don't even have their FCC cert, which last I heard you need to have before you can even go into production

jmc88883884d ago

What people forget is that the 7 million number was a full calendar year.

So a reduction down to 6.2 million is a big drop at the BEGINNING of production.

Basically I see it as....we're having some sort of delay...whatever that is...big..small...both... and since our 7 million number was based on what we could build if we started by X date, then since we have had those delays we're ~800k behind.

There's no mention whether or not this has been fixed and that they are now up to 100 percent of the production estimates, but simply behind.

Basically they've lost 800k launch units. Now how many they lose or not will impact how many of the other 6.2 million or so planned are actually built.

Losing 800k launch units is a BIG fail, and there is still reason to believe that more could be cut.

Anon19743884d ago

So let's weigh the two scenarios here.

Scenario A: Digitimes, the leading and widely used publication for electronics news related to Taiwan and central Asia reports that Xbox One forecasts have been cut, specifically from 7 million to 6.2 million and states specifically which components are impacted and which company's this is currently impacting. They're telling the truth. Microsoft PR guy tweets, a few words but it's just damage control before they can craft a larger PR statement.

Scenario B: Digitimes and the EDN just made the whole thing up, including specific numbers, company's impacted and components they're having trouble with. Just out of the blue. Made up everything. They're having a laugh right now. And MS PR guy who's job it is to manage this type of problem is actually 100% correct in his 5 word tweet. No truth to any of it.

Which scenario seems the more likely case here?

ArchangelMike3884d ago

Dood, where do u think u r? Dis iz N4G. Ur statementz is making too much sence... must.., dis... agree...

Seriously though. You talk way too much sence for N4G.

H0RSE3884d ago

If the information does turn out to be false, it is likely a case of scenario C: misinformation.

Why do you and others seem to imply that if the news is false, that it must have been completely fabricated from nothing? You present these "which is more believable scenarios," and present the idea you side with as a rational possibility, and exaggerate the other one to the point of ridiculousness...

I don't think many are implying that the news was completely made up, but rather just not accurate. Perhaps their numbers are off or their information was not confirmed. Perhaps what their info states doesn't translate to the same things that news outlets and the public think it means. I'm not saying that this is the case, I'm just pointing out that even in your "analysis" of which scenario is more likely to be the case, it appears that y9ou show bias, or at least lack vision.

Anon19743884d ago

If the news is false, isn't that the same thing as "made up"? Seriously, if it's misinformation that means then it's fabricated and the economic news sources that reported this didn't bother to check their sources. That falls under Scenario B.

Now maybe only parts of the rumor are true, but that still means that the other bits were made up. See also, Scenario B.

H0RSE3884d ago

No, it doesn't...

Not having your facts straight and completely making something up, are not the same thing. Not sure why you're having such a hard time comprehending this...

And yet they've only reduced release markets and shipping numbers?

@JokesOnYou:

Know it doesn't mean anything - or too much perhaps - but RRoD.

Even if its MS they can't afford to have that happen again.

jackanderson19853885d ago

The shipping numbers is just a rumour but the countries probably a business decision to feed their major markets first. The 8 countries they have cut out have roughly 2-3 million sales of the 360 between them according to some places

Spoons3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Meh, wrong.

I immensely dislike when people say things like "and we all know MS can't afford that again".

You do realize were talking about Microsoft, which we all know very well can afford almost whatever they want.

If were talking about who can afford what, Sony is the one who can't afford to lose this gen. One misstep and it could be the end of them.

Seeing as how they recently sold buildings for billions of dollars and laid off thousands of employees (not to mention their questionable work ethics, see: banishment room) to merely keep the business afloat, and they are not the wealthiest company, they REALLY can't afford another loss.

I'm a business major so take it from me when I say that MS, a multi-billion dollar company has much deeper pockets than Sony, a company valued at around 500 million dollars.

Godmars2903884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

By "not afford" I meant in terms of PR. While MS likely has the money to cover post-release production issues, between the history of RRoD and the mess which still is the pre-XB1 launch, if that happens they'll never regain consumer confidence.

Just like Sony wont if they get bad laser diodes like they did during the PS2's launch.

I know for certain if Sony messes up the PS4's post launch that Xbox fanboys will be all over it. And actually with good reason.

Minato-Namikaze3884d ago

I can see the butthurt all over your post, lol.

deputyspade3884d ago

Being a business major doesn't qualify you to know about company's financials. Microsoft is actually worth around $260 billion not $500 million, but when Ballmer took over in 2000 they were worth more than double that. They have certainly seen their war chest diminish significatly in recent years. They have had a lot of losses from their entertainment and devices division and the xbox is one of those. They have never made a cumulative profit from the xbox. Recently, a Microsoft shareholder requested they sell off or just cut out the entire xbox division because they weren't making profits from it.

Consoldtobots3884d ago

oh dear the stupidity in this thread is blinding from the ms fanboys.

here is a little dose of reality. Only an IDIOT would go into mass production before FCC approval.
What if they tell you your Wifi assemble is causing too much interference? What if they ask you to use different shielding in your case? Are you now gonna go back and spend millions more to fix what you already spent millions on producing?

this only makes sense in a fanboy's mind.

The FCC is only for the US they can begin production before they gain approval it's just risky as te FCC might say a certain component is a no no and then they'd have a ton of stock they couldn't sell in the US

SmokeyMcBear3885d ago

So I take it the reduction in production is planned, maybe they messed up the numbers all that while ago. Maybe they don't want to make as much money as they can, makes sense. I would take anything coming out of microsoft PR with a grain of salt. Reports from the home countries where the manufacturing occurs with no apparant gain should be at least considered.

Mixer Won't Just Become Facebook Gaming on Console, Xbox Executive

If I was Facebook I would drop the branding as it is now associated with a failed streaming service.

exputers1391d ago

What do you think, why would Facebook partner up? They must be failing badly too lol

Stanjara1391d ago

While Mixer failed and didn't see any growth (or better, their traffic was going down), Facebook's gaming division (or whatever) was going up due to Oculus or chat or mobile gaming. More traffic on service, more ad revenue.
Increasing traffic also means that you have to go where there is traffic or where people are.
Since Facebook has money, and Mixer has money they went together to see potential growth.
Facebook goes for gaming because they have billions of people, who some of them are gamers, but they game on other platforms.
At this stage what ever they do they will se growth, but not from hc gamers or gamers in general, but from every day Joes who heard that fifa, gta and cod exists.

In other words, who cares :p

SpaceRanger1391d ago

Two companies that have been scrutinized for data collection practices, Facebook being the worst of the two. This is a partnership MS should have stayed away from.

Ausbo1391d ago

That was really the only option. Couldn’t have gone to YouTube because stadia would conflict with xcloud plans. Couldn’t go with twitch because amazon will be releasing their own answer to the streaming Wars.

The only other option was to not partner with anyone. If they did that, they’d be leaving their streamers high and dry. At least with Facebook they are offering partner status to those who had it in mixer and sign on bonuses

SpaceRanger1390d ago

It would have been way cheaper to just buy out people with sign on bonuses. The partnership with Facebook was probably expensive and will further tarnish their branding in the streaming space. Especially with so many companies boycotting Facebook right now.

And the likelihood of Facebook being integrated into the XSX at some point is super high now. Not sure anyone would want that.

MS can’t catch a break this gen when it comes to partnerships.
