New PS4 Details: No Game Streaming To PS VITA While Running Netflix on PS4 and More

Sony President Shuhei Yoshida has just confirmed that Playstation 4 gamers won't be able to stream game on to PS VITA while Netflix is running.

Majin-vegeta3885d ago

If my lady wants to watch netflix. She can do it on the PS3 but she ain't going nowhere my PS4 :p.

latincooker2143885d ago

WOOOOOOOOW Majin its like that bro RESPECT dude RESPECT +bubble.:)

latincooker2143885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

ooooook y in the blue hell did i get 8 disagrees for saying RESPECT to Majin. ??? and Bundi what u mean by WHAT did you not read what Majin said. ???

SonyWarrior3884d ago

i need a gf/wife first to relate to this

guitarded773884d ago

@ SonyWarrior

Nah... they're expensive. Better not to relate.

Oh topic: Well duh... using remote play requires system resources... watching Netflix requires system resources. Everything you do on the PS4 requires system resources, and gaming is probably the single most system resource hungry feature of the platform.

sonarus3884d ago

Why in blue hell do u feel the need to rely on agrees and disagrees to validate your comments and statements.
While streaming games to vita is a nice addition, I am not particularly interested in it since I don't own a vita and don't really have a reason to own one. I used to have a psp that I left on the plane and never bothered to replace. I am not a big fan of handheld gaming mostly watched movies on my psp as entertainment when I travelled but now with iPad handheld is essentially useless to me.

AlaaAlii3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@latincooker When I read your post, at first, I thought there's a thing called "bro respect, dude respect". But then I read your post again, and realized you meant "WOW Majin, it's like that, bro! Respect, dude. Respect. +Bubble". Punctuation man. Punctuation.

Anyways, can't wait for the PS4!

SecondSon3884d ago

Luckily I can stream Netflix on to my TV from 3 other devices, my ps3 and my laptop and phone over DLNA (Y)

Muerte24943885d ago

Just for those who didn't read the article. The PS4 demonstration @ Gamescom had no physical(bluray) games installed on the HDD. These were all digital copies. That would explain it only taking 7 seconds to jump into a session. Shuhei confirms that you will not be able to download a physical copy to your HDD. Unless there is some serious pre-order incentive, I'm buying digital. I hardly trade in my games anyway. I also only buy games I don't plan on selling.

SoundGamer3885d ago

All Blu-ray discs will have a partial background install to the HDD for quick booting and loading anyway. It's the same thing.

hkgamer3885d ago

I think those people having a conversation on twitter were stupid. I thought it was obvious that the games were digital copies.

Mark Cerny also mentioned about installing games whilst playing. This is probably/most likely referring to when you download/install games whilst you play.

One thing I do like to know is if netflix/any other streaming service will be able to remote play onto the vita. anyone know?

Also if physical games will have any mandatory installation?

shadow27973884d ago

Why would you want to remote play Netflix? The quality will be awful and the sound will be compressed. Why wouldn't you just use the Netflix app on the Vita?

All games will install to the HDD and run off of it. There won't be any wait though. It will install the parts you need first, first. Just like when you download the game.

Destrania3884d ago

Plus the BD in the PS4 reads 6x faster compared to PS3.

badz1493884d ago

@destrania

that would be 3X faster. the PS3 has 2X BD drive.

ABizzel13884d ago

The first accessory I'm buying with my PS4 is a 1TB - 2TB HDD.

nirwanda3884d ago

@muerte
It may be quicker from disk if it can pull information from the hdd at the same time as the disk.

@Majin-vegeta

I think Bulma can make PS6 in the blink of an eye. So i'm sure she will not mess up with your PS4 :P

Majin-vegeta3885d ago

The thing is.I'm no longer tapping Bulma :P.Instead i'm getting back at kakarot for defeating me by tapping his wife ;P.But hey you're right xD.

Darrius Cole3885d ago

Vegeta, if you think Chi-Chi is going to give you some then you are smoking some potent dope.

But back to the point. Doesn't Bulma prefer hand-held devices? She is more likely to take your Vita than you PS4.

christian hour3884d ago

The best part about this entire article is all the DB jokes that Majin-Vegeta has spun off.

Gamepur need to put their thinking caps on, they got a lot of things that are common knowledge at this point very wrong in their article.

These aren't multi-tasking power PC's, of course you wouldnt be able to do much, if nothing at all, while streaming your game to your Vita. Common sense people :P

Can't believe they thought Cerny was talking about discs back in february :-/

FamilyGuy3884d ago

LOL, that's literally expecting the console to run both netflix and a PS4 game at the same time. The answer here was obvious.

Dir_en_grey3884d ago

All they need to do is come out with a Netflix app for Vita

IMightBeRetarded3884d ago

The vita does have a Netflix app.

badz1493884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@Dir_en_grey

lol...where have you been all this time dude?

nah...it's ok. maybe you're not from Netflix supported country like I am. that's why you maybe don't realize the Vita already has Netflix app. I almost forgotten about it too.

3884d ago
cjflora3884d ago

This has been my plan as well. The PS3 will become the primary Netflix box and I will use the PS4 to stream my PS4 games to my vita if the tv is in use by someone in the family watching tv.

Akuma2K3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

@majin-vegeta

Lmaoooo....to funny....bubble for you.

Sorasixx3884d ago (Edited 3884d ago )

Lol at least you are honest bc she's do whatever on the ps3 and you majin-vegetathe ps4 is all yours to play and watch Netflix I respect you real talk bro :)

truechainz3884d ago

yeah idk why anyone expected that to be a thing. Either way with my PS4+Vita and Wii U, the amount of netflix watching, awesome gameplaying, web surfing combinations I will have next year will be almost sickening.

jujubee883885d ago

It would have been deal if VITA didn't display certain stuff from PS4 (via remote play).

This isn't that. The guy basically wanted to use remote-play while still having TV display sh*t. Hence, he stupid. Oh he stupid.

logan_izer103885d ago

Isn't this to be expected? Even a good PC would have hiccups streaming a high quality game to a portable device while watching Netflix

hkgamer3885d ago

true. I'm pretty sure when a game is running on PS4 all of its resources would be used on running the game.

GribbleGrunger3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

Are you kidding me?

"Hey Shu, will I be able to stream a game to my Vita while my wife is watching Netflix on the PS4?" No wonder he got a curt 'no' to that stupid question.

He also confirmed that you DO NOT need to install disc games onto the HDD in order to play them. That would have been a far better headline:

"I was using a digital version of games, you cannot install a disk version onto HDD."

So no space taken up on the HDD for disc based games!

IcicleTrepan3885d ago

no kidding, most modern TVs can handle netflix without an additional device at this point.

bromtown3884d ago

My TV is 3 years old at this point and even that has netflix and streaming apps.

GribbleGrunger3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

I've just checked and Cerny has said you do install discs ... so we are still none the wiser. :) Here's the quote from Cerny:

"So, what we do as the game accesses the Blu-ray disc, is we take any data that was accessed and we put it on the hard drive. And if then if there is idle time, we go ahead and copy the remaining data to the hard drive. And what that means is after an hour or two, the game is on the hard drive, and you have access, you have dramatically quicker loading... And you have the ability to do some truly high-speed streaming."

To further help the Blu-ray along, the system also has a unit to support zlib decompression -- so developers can confidently compress all of their game data and know the system will decode it on the fly. "As a minimum, our vision is that our games are zlib compressed on media," said Cerny.

From someone on Gaf. I don't know who he is but he uses the royal 'we':

"You can install the game" is confusing wording that should be avoided because the PS4 will always install disc based games to the HDD. There isn't even a user action to take. It will happen automatically in the background as you play. You can't prevent it.

However, like we've said, disc based games will still require the disc be inserted in order to play to prove you still own the game."

Bundi3885d ago (Edited 3885d ago )

I don't think not being able to install games completely is a great thing. On the flip side I don't think not being able to play without installing is great either.

I want best of both, I want the OPTION to install when I want to which I have discovered with the 360 is almost always!

When we discover that the ps4 does allow game installs, I hope you don't shift your "yay, my HDD won't be wasted on game install" stance.
Sometimes it just seems like PS fans love anything and everything Sony does even when it isn't that great. Flip flopping according to what Sony is up to.
"TV TV TV TV TV" BOO!!
Ooh sweet!! Sony's deal with Viacom is amazemabombs!

hkgamer3885d ago

think 360 with its ability to install full games on the HDD was the best idea. Makes loading games slightly faster and puts less stress on the lens whilst also giving you the option to not install at all.

Xbox One was almost the perfect machine allowing gamers to buy retail copies (for box collectors) and install the whole game and not need the disk anymore. I would have loved the original Xbone if they didn't go back on everything they bloody said.

vigilante_man3884d ago

I admit it is a good idea for those who want it but it was wasted on 360 as you were tied to MS disks only, not any laptop sata like PS3 - costing you more.

I still have a PS2 (fat) and have a HDD inside with over 25 top games installed. Once I boot up with a CD/DVD it then only reads from the HDD. So a good idea, I agree.

But remember all consoles have there good and bad points. You gotta take the rough with the smooth. Remember your DVD game disks were a lot smaller than some PS3 Bluray exclusives. And you had no wifi built in the original, and no HD-DVD drive built in.

You are in a minority wanted XB1 to be the same as when it was revealed. It was almost stone cold dead in the water. Common sense (and profit) has prevailed. Just make the most of the features your chosen next gen console WILL have.

BLAKHOODe3884d ago

On the Xbox 360, I always installed the games I was currently playing, but after awhile, if I'm no longer playing that game.. I delete the install.

So, my question is: Will I be able to delete the install when I'm done with it?

twinspectre3885d ago

i don't want to install blue ray's games on my PS4

Bundi3885d ago

I do, I want to preserve my laser by reducing the wear accumulated from repeated use, I'm looking at you PS2!

hkgamer3885d ago

agree. but I would like the option like 360 to install the whole disk, even if you do need the disk in the console to play. May improve loading times and also preserve the lens.

badz1493884d ago

if the safety of the lasers concern you THAT much, why don't go digital?

oh yeah...then you wouldn't be able to resell them, right? that is 1 thing about digital too.

so, I personally don't prefer disc install myself but I agree options are nice. but you have to remember that BD drive in the PS4 is only 6X, nothing too fast and stretching for hardware IMO.

forcefullpower3884d ago

The game will install to the HDD so it wont use the disc. But you need the disc in order to authenticate the game. Unless you buy digital which I pretty much am going to this new gen.

This is done automatically so you don't have to specifically ask it to install like 360 and PS3.

trafalger3884d ago

one of the drawbacks is you cannot have games loaded and ready to go unless they are digital. not having to deal with discs would be great. just access the hard drive and away you go.

We are all just getting greedy before they are even released. In January we could not of hoped that new consoles would be as powerful as they are.

We now want them to do everything at the same time in 1080p at 120fps!!

@car

The new boss did a interview in japan he wants to tap into the mobile market like nintendio so he give 0 fucks about gamers/fans

https://www.pushsquare.com/...

Redemption-6411d ago

@Cacabunga
You only speak for you and those who think like you, but most fans will support what they want. Playstation and PC fans are literally supporting Helldivers 2 and that is a gaas. Maybe you wouldn't, but many more would if they like it.

Huey_My_D_Long11d ago

@Redemption-64
Look, Im not making any judgement calls about this guy, but I will say that Helldivers 2 GaaS model is unique to Helldivers, and legit the only other game I can think of thats similiar was the Avengers game except HD2 pass is still better.
The fact that you can earn in game currency in a way that doesnt make you feel like you have to grind forever, as well you being able work on that pass that you bought...on your own time without a time limit...that right there is fucking huge to me, and I can't name any game other than avengers that avoided trapping players with FOMO logic...I think GaaS on HD2 shouldn't be compared to the rest of the industry...it should be copied.

Einhander197211d ago

Cacabunga

Helldivers 2...

Redemption-64

In Europe it's a 60 40 split favoring PC.
In the US its a 60 40 split favoring PS5.

So PlayStation owners supported the game just fine, it's not getting carried by PC or anything like that.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

@just_looken,
I'm perfectly fine with the way Nintendo entered the mobile market, I never touched their mobile games, meanwhile, the console/handheld stayed the way it is. As for being a bean counter, he's probably going to reel in these massive budgets that Sony's studios have had lately, I haven't played Spiderman 2, but I cannot see how they almost tripled the budget for that game.

@Redemption-64,
That's an exception to the rule, I'm expecting a lot of these GAAS games from Sony to fail, to be fair, they only need a few to succeed, but I would have preferred that they put more of their resources into other types of games.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 11d ago
DivineHand12511d ago

True their monetization is driving players away and at the same time, their decision to chop out content and convoluted systems is keeping new players away from the game.

Joe91311d ago

I don't think that will happen based on how things worked out at Naughty Dog now that we know what we do, seems they had the option to fully commit to live service games or stay making single player experences so they gave up on their live service game. We are not sure how things came about with Bend making a live service game but I hope that was not a forced situation. Sony doesnt seem like they are forcing studios to switch up but we will see, Sony's bread and butter is single player games it is how they dominated the console market.

Obscure_Observer11d ago

Yeah, I though Sony learned something from all their failures in the LS segment under Bungie´s disastrous leadership and supervision which led to games been cancelled, studios closed and all the people laid off.

Looks like Bungie still plays a major role in Sony´s LS initiative and Sony is not backtracking on their GaaS plans.

S2Killinit11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Are we forgetting that Destiny is also a highly successful franchise? I feel like that definitely deserves mention here.

Besides, there is no reason why a person cant learn from past experiences.

Joe91310d ago

I agree, people act as if Destiny flopped when it came out lol it took 9 to 10 years for the numbers to fall yet people are still playing it add the success of Helldivers 2 no wonder Sony is going forward down this path.

S2Killinit10d ago

Personally, I see no problem with Sony also having service games as long as they make good ones, and more importantly they deliver the AAA story driven games that they are known for. So yeah, I agree 100% with you.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 10d ago
Christopher11d ago

I mean, this person made some pretty bad decisions at Bungie. I hope they've learned from them because I definitely don't see those type of ideas as good for PlaySation in general.

CrimsonWing6911d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Honestly, what’s to learn from? How to make people happily continuously dump money into a single game over its life-time? Buy season passes continuously for several years with a smile on our faces?

GaaS is a design decision that is everything wrong with this industry. The fact that Helldivers 2 did so well and people defend the monetization because it was $40 and is a fun game, scares the sh*t out of me to see that the door is open and all shift will probably be to replicate that in future games. We already know the ROI for traditional game dev cost isn’t doing it for them.

I thought with Jimbo leaving we’d see a change for the better… I’m not so sure now.

S2Killinit10d ago

Service games are being offered by everyone. Sony cannot afford to only create single player AAA games. No one can. They already said they will be doing both.

Abnor_Mal11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Ps5 gamers in 2023 seemed to play more live service types of games, so regardless to how people feel about them, numbers don’t lie and Sony is going where the money is. I mean look at the excitement around Helldivers2, people are showing that they want live service games.

Christopher11d ago

They play long-time existing live service games like CoD, Fortnite, Apex Legends, Destiny 2, and the like. Mass majority of new live service games are considered failures and aren't moving gamers away from older games.

just_looken11d ago

Yep the huge issue with live service is they need paid players along with a reason to play them.

You forgot mobile market that also taps into that player base as well as the eve online style games there is only a certain amount of krakens/whales blind supporters compared to the amount of live service games we have its not sustainable math wise.

700 restaurants making food for every seat for 1000-3000 eaters just does not work out

Einhander197211d ago (Edited 11d ago )

Christopher

I am not a big live service fan and literally own zero of the games you listed, but that is not true, unless you call games that aren't the top games to be failures.

There are tons of live service games that are profitable.

Games don't have to be the biggest game ever they just need to make more than they cost.

I challenge you to show professionally prepared data that shows that more live service games fail than make enough to keep going.

Because all the data that I have seen shows that live service is less of a gamble than making a big AAA budget game which needs to survive off retail sales.

FinalFantasyFanatic11d ago

I sometimes wonder if we're at saturation point, where it's hard for a new game to join those ranks unless it's particularly exceptional, people only have so much time and money to devote to these types of games.

romulus2311d ago

Correction, they have no issue playing good live service games

shinoff218311d ago

Lol it's not even a quarter of the ps5s sold. Helldivers may have been a hit but let's not say most are enjoying it because truth is most(the real most ) don't care about it.

S2Killinit10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

I play what is fun. If a live service game is good I’ll play it as long as its not a money scheme which Helldivers is not.

And Im a single player gamer.

mastershredder11d ago

How do you kill a franchise that already been killed?
Destiny’s grind, cash-in-on-playbass-cha-Ching, and pop-culture-insertion mainstream-me-too bs totally killed any rep Bungie had. Sony/Bungie, if you are doing this to ward-off players, it’s already working.
