Strong Island Rant: Why I Hate Online Gaming | Structure Gaming

Imagine playing games with your friends online and having a blast when all of a sudden this pre teen squeak of a voice shouts expletives with every other word. Apparently these 12- year old boys also know how to keep my mom happy in the bedroom and do so frequently. What’s that? Oh, I should visit noob camp this weekend so I can practice on becoming less of a noob? Fair enough. More often than not I find myself muting my headset and just play with the chat off completely. If I wanted to hear children scream and curse I would visit the local Chuck.E.Cheese and push that mouse off of the stage. So kids, if you are reading this, go to bed while adults try to have a civilized game of murder murder die die.

I really hate that crap too but the one thing I see in common with your issue and everyone else are that no one remembers that you can mute these individuals.I do it all the time.
If someone is playing music or generally being a douche, he get's the mute boot. When I'm playing, half the match is hearing everyone else telling the obnoxious idiot to be quiet. All they need to do is mute the guy.
I really think there a few people who actually like it so they can spend the whole game arguing with each other. Otherwise, why not mute them. It doesn't make sense.

I'd take local multiplayer over online any day, and it pains me that this addition is so scarce when back in the ps2/Xbox/GC days it was a standard feature. It will probably only get worse next gen with all the social bs taking priority.

the only MP i enjoyed was KZ2 and Resistance 2 8 player co-op

otherwise usually i don't even go online, hopefully with ps4/xbox one playing online will become a better experience

I haven't played online in awhile. Most of the people I did game online with game at night and now that I work nights it makes it impossible to play with them. I hate gaming with random people because you either run into the idiots mentioned in the article or you have people who won't communicate together and then blame everyone else but their own lacking as to why they lost. Hopefully soon I can get back up with my friends because yes we mostly do mute the other team and generally we communicate well.

Also the download situation is supposed to be better on XBOX One and PS4 so if maybe something can be done about the idiots (which I highly doubt) maybe then we can all get along and just have fun online.

I play online almost every day. I usually get a few games of zombies in, a lil TDM MW3, a lil Borderlands 2, A little bit of this, a little bit of that and i find my self muting almost everybody. I no longer use a head set due to the the bickering and complaining. I just don't want to hear it anymore. I also dont want everybody and there mom hearing my conversations or Girlfriend talking dirty or my kids laughing at either me or others misfortune. My kids have been wanting to use headsets and ive refused to let them use them. My oldest loves to laugh at others while yelling FAIL!. I think most of the issues online are due to bad parenting. Ive already agreed to let him use a headset with the PS4 but i have been teaching him about headset etiquette. He has started realizing what he was saying out loud and i point out " what if others heard you saying that" and hes noticing other peoples rude conversations online too. Once i let him loose on the community i feel he will be ready to have mature conversations and proper communication with his team mates. If others took this approach im sure the online community would be a better place. I guess what im saying is teach your kids not to be d!cks.. lol

Thank you for that, I always like to behave online how I would in person and I will teach my eventual kids the same.

ravinash3888d ago

Good on you for taking the time to educate your kids with online etiquette.

I think there are a lot of parents out there who seem to think it's OK to lock your kids in a room so you don't have to deal with them and let the people on the internet entertain them. We're not a baby sitting service.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ148d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil148d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90519d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos519d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
