The Next Generation Lacks Excitement

The long-awaited next generation of game consoles is all anyone can talk about these days, but is there really reason for it? Other than the automatic curiosity that new technology brings, Gamers Association editor Jay Curtis finds little excitement in what's coming in the next few months. Here's why.

OMG! Says who? I'd say there's more excitement that the last gen / present gen console launches.

Abash3894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

PS4 has me ultra excited with Killzone: Shadow Fall, DriveClub, Knack, and Watch_Dogs playable at launch

Sorry for the guy who wrote the article not feeling how great the new gen is looking

black0o3894d ago

this GUY needs to spend some time here at N4G

Ju3894d ago

Actually Knack went up my ladder after seeing this: http://www.youtube.com/watc...

We haven't really seen much about this game, surprisingly. There is quite more then Sony originally showed.

Enemy3894d ago

Lol @ idiots expecting next gen to match this gen immediately at launch.

levian3894d ago

I'm definitely more excited for this gen than I was for any previous generation.

That being said, I'll be even more excited 1-2 years after release, when all the games REALLY start flowing.

Enemy3894d ago

@ Ju: Wow, the difference it makes when you have someone who actually know what they're doing playing. It looks amazing.

pyramidshead3894d ago

@ju knack looks surprisingly tough.. o.O

Ju3894d ago

Yeah, I thought that, too. Japanese respawns (its made by Japan Studios). LOL. Might lead to some frustration. One hit and you are dead. I hate that, tbh. Especially because the respawn sets you back quite a bit. Either they will tune the hit points a little in the boss sequences or give it additional difficulty levels. Gotta be careful with the defense there, I guess.

Jazz41083893d ago

Watchdogs will be on xboxone also....cant wait.

KUV19773894d ago

I'm plenty excited, even though GamesCom somewhat dampened my excitement-level.

demonddel3893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

why because you thought ur favorite company was gonna announce a shit load of AAA games and they didn't and left you with a bunch of indie games telling you thats the future

KUV19773893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

No, because Killzone, inFamous and WatchDogs weren't playable. Plus DriveClub, while still pretty good, was slightly less good than I expected.

I did expect at least one triple-A title, and other than most people I don't have a problem to admit that I was a little disappointed with the SONY conference. However at least we had several really good ones before that clearly understood what we as gamers wanted. ALso I don't feel the need to tell you that on SONY booths you had to wait for 4 hours to try one game whereas MS-booths on GamesCom were only filled with a couple of people so that you could try everything in about 30 minutes, but I guess you couldn't take the truth anyway.

Also I participated in an XOne-Raffle. They were giving away an XBox each hour (guess they somehow need to up their numbers). I would gladly have taken a free XBox because I don't think it's bad. I just think that the PS4 is better. (Actually I am one of the guys that really liked the family-sharing-plan which is now revoked unfortunately).

Godmars2903894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

The only "excitement" is coming from fanboys as they blindly defend *their* systems.

Not saying that its going to be better than last gen, but considering last gen that's really not saying much.

Lord_Sloth3894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

Or people like me who just love the games we see. Not launch mind you. I'm talkin about Destiny, MGSV, Second Son, and FFXV. I'm completely stoked!

That said, I'm not getting rid of my PS3 and will be enjoying Dark Souls 2 come March.

Godmars2903894d ago

Hearing too many people using launch titles as reason for getting the system they're are.

Then again I am someone who plans on getting one six months down the line. Let the first adapters worry about any first production runs.

Zeroyosh3894d ago

last gen was a huge leap in graphics. this gen is not such a huge leap. thats all.

but what this gen will do for games will pave the way for the next gen to be a huge leap, mark my words.

sevilha823894d ago

exactlly like lord-sloth said, props to you.

If you trully love games it´s a hell of a time to be a gamer both sistems are impressive, and the not so distant next year proves to be one of the most amazing years in sheer quality and quantity of games(Metal Gear Solid V,THe Witcher 3,Destiny,THe Division,etc...)

Thus the ones that are still releasing this year(GTA V,Beyond Two Souls,Next gen:Watch Dogs,Killzone:Shadow Fall,Batllefield 4)Should i go on?

We dont know about you,but the rest of us is pretty excited.

Peace.

levian3894d ago

Sloth has the right of it.

Games coming up in a year or so, MGSV, Destiny, The Division, Second Son, Dark Souls 2, FFXV (we can hope for early next year on this one can't we?).

There's some pretty good games on launch, but give it a year and we're gonna be in gamer heaven!

avengers19783894d ago

Not from my point of view, the new generation has me very hyped.

Xsilvermist3894d ago

Not exciting damn what you want a airstrike, shiiiiit my excitement is over 9000 speak for urself.

MysticStrummer3894d ago

I'm more excited than before this gen. Hard to believe I can buy a console and two games, yet have access to so many more for free. Warthunder, Warframe, Blacklight: Retribution, Planetside 2, DC Universe... and if I get PS+ then Drive Club and Outlast are added to that list, and that's only the beginning. Unbelievable value.

C0LLAT3894d ago

Who the hell comes up with these wackkkkk news articles!?

I'm extremely excited for next gen as well!!

Just take my money!! And give it to me already!!! Lol

Mounce3894d ago

I'd say, to see what MGSV looks like on next-gen consoles makes me excited enough that no other game can even compare. My anticipation and anxiety for MGSV are so flipping high, that even playing and beating The Last of Us seemed like a casual and 'plain' experience.

Does that make me sound insane for MGSV or something? Though, I'm going too beat TLOU on Survivor difficulty next and get a Plat soon xP

i agree, i think the nextgen feel like a contiuation of currentgen, no "HD gfx/online" type shock but still a bit exciting, the launch is lots better

btw, im excited most for

VERY EXCITED FOR....

GTA V, DCK:tropical freeze, super mario 3D World and CoD ghosts(X1 version because of dedicated servers)

second most excited for........

KZ:SF, Watch Dogs, BF4, Wonderful 101, Ryse

ThanatosDMC3894d ago

I'm more excited about the streaming feature of what was shown on the PS4. The ability to watch/play the game people on your friend's list are playing. Useful for those times when we actually eat.

The two games im excited about are GTAV and 7 Days to Die.

andrewer3894d ago

Playing alpha of 7 Days to Die and its awesome, definitely a must have. But I'm more excited for Zelda U, Mario Kart 8, SSB Wii U, DK: Tropical Freeze, Mario 3D World, Watch Dogs, Wonderful 101 and Rainbow Six Patriots.

ABeastNamedTariq3894d ago

What? I'm extremely excited. A lot of others are too. This gen has been going on for a while. We want something new.

ZBlacktt3894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

Super excited and why wouldn't anyone be. I mean the graphic detail is on a whole other level now. So many new features and the PS4 is $100 cheaper then when the PS3 came out 7 years ago. So we've got a 10 times more powerful console that's also cheaper. If you are not excited. You are either dead or trolling.

Look at AC4 BF, Watch Dogs, BF4, Destiny, inFamous SS, Killzone Shadow Fall. MGS5 and tell me those games are not beyond anything we've seen before on a console.

RicardJulianti3894d ago

I'm more excited about the potential than the launches. Neither the X1 or the PS4 has anything that makes me want to buy the console anywhere near launch. I already own a Wii U and everything coming out this fall through mid-late next year (assuming Smash Bros is a big fall title) will have me plenty satisfied as a gamer.

I'm definitely excited for Destiny and The Division....and hopefully all of these new IP's everyone keeps yammering on about. If we end up with the same game with different skins again like we've gotten the past few years. I'm ready for something new.

I'm just waiting to see something that makes me say, "I NEED that console."

How to recruit Lam in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes

Lam is among the 120 characters available for recruitment in Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes. While she is one of the many straightforward recruits, a known bug may prevent players from recruiting her if certain conditions are met. Despite developers’ assurances of fixing the bug, some early access players still encounter issues with recruiting Lam despite attempting the standard method.

Tomb Raider Remastered just quietly censored one in-game detail

Tomb Raider 1-3 Remastered players are ticked off by the game’s most recent patch, which censors in-game pin-up posters of Lara Croft.

This is why gaming is screwed. When people change things to fit someone’s agenda, it’s a slippery slope downhill.

Christopher9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Even if that agenda is of the developer? Way to remove developer rights.

***One player called it a “huge problem with modern games,” saying they can now be “ruined AFTER people buy them”.***

The level of drama. Yes, I recall sitting there for more hours than I did anything else in the game. These two pinups are the core of the game, after all!

coolbeans8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

rlow1's cringe catastrophizing aside, I do think developers *ought* to strive to maintain an original work to the best of their ability. The language of a "remaster" tacitly implies that - for good or ill - what's being resold is what fans remember but better.

Profchaos7h ago

Games can be ruined after purchasing them yeah we know this not from this but from GTA IV which had half it's radio content patched out due to licensing expirations and to me that was a huge deal.

This pin up poster is a bit of nonsense but the whole argument of modern games can be ruined post launch is Absol true.

DedicatedDark6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

It's not their work to censor. They are incharge of restoration & remastering the work, not overwriting it.

Barlos5h ago

It's not the agenda of the developer though, they're pandering and trying to increase their ESG score.

Way to support censorship...

victorMaje5h ago

It’s not the end of the world for sure, but I understand the hate towards this kind of change. I believe it’s also a matter of principle.

Imagine a Picasso painting being restored & the restorer deciding there aren’t enough strokes, or some lines aren’t straight enough or curved enough…not sure it would/should sit well with people.

Have all original devs signed off on this change? Even if it’s the case, are we saying older gamers are better mentally equipped to process what was there than current gamers, hence the change?

Enough time ago the case was made that games are an art form. We’re supposed to have won that case.
So which is it? Are games art or not?

Eidolon6h ago

Hasn't this been happened for over a decade since remasters? I can't see that it's any worse now. Maybe if Sweet Baby starts getting their hands on remasters we will definitely have a problem.

Rebel_Scum8h ago

tbh I dont see something like this as censorship. Does anyone else not find it strange for someone to stick pin ups of themsleves in a locker room?

Now of it was a pin up of some half naked firefighters it might make sense as Lara might like that, and if they removed that I would cry censorship. But removing pin ups of the main character, yeah I get it.

Barlos5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

It's a game, and they were placed there for the audience. It's not real life. If it was, she wouldn't have fought a T-Rex now would she?

Yes, it's censorship but it's a bit less in your face. If they were in the original game, then they should have been in the remasters. It's bad enough that they have that ridiculous unnecessary warning at the start, but then they start removing things post launch. I don't care how small the change, they shouldn't be doing it. It's nothing but ESG pandering but in a subtle way.

Rebel_Scum4h ago

Look bro, if you have pictures of yourself naked on a bear skin rug up in your house let me tell you, its not normal.

jambola3h ago

I wasn't aware censorship was based on what made sense to you

Rebel_Scum3h ago

Likewise, what a stupid comment.

jambola2h ago

I agree
Your comment was pretty stupid

Rebel_Scum2h ago

I never said censorship is based on what I say dumbass. Just because I dont see this as censorship doesnt mean I’m saying others cant.

How about you come at me with your opinion rather than snarky comments with no thought on the matter.

SimpleDad5h ago

By the year 2030, this remaster collection will totally be changed and censored. Probably will remove Lara as a playable character. It's ridiculous. Glad that my family didn't buy this.
I still have Tomb Raider 2 PS1 as a memory.

jambola3h ago

Those shorts are a little revealing
Should probably make them snow pants

Barlos3h ago

They'll probably make her trans

CobraKai4h ago

It’s mentioned in the article, and it’s a point i 100% agree with, it’s the fact that they can censor a game after you buy it. That’s total bullshit.

Killer2020UK4h ago

Whilst it's an overreaction to say this has "ruined" the game, it's still problematic that this has happened post launch and for many, post-purchase.

I don't want someone to change a product for the worse after I've bought it. The same goes for implementing micro transactions after reviews.

I wonder why they did this? Nobody was kicking up a fuss as far as I'm aware.

maykhausonninh4h ago

Nobody was kicking up a fuss as far as I'm aware.

Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster Review – You Are Your Job, Apparently

Gary Green said: In a time where an enhanced, 3D remake of Final Fantasy III already exists, it’s hard to argue that Final Fantasy III Pixel Remaster is the definitive version we were expecting. With Final Fantasy III already being the last in the series to be translated and make its way west, this is something of a slap in the face for the fans. Still, let’s not be disheartened. There may be many shortfalls in this edition of Final Fantasy III, however there’s no denying that this classic JRPG still holds some nostalgic value, even if it struggles to break away from its original hardware limitations.

It’s funny I’m seeing these articles about pixel remaster, and I just platinumed 1-4 within 8 days lol. I’ve been on FF5 for about a week now. Let’s just say 5 was the start of FF having content like crazy. I should have the plat within 2-3 days.

MrBaskerville55m ago

The game being an accurate represantation of the original was not a slap in the face to the fans. The 3D remasters looked like ass (visually) tbh.
