Third party developers won't use Kinect and if they do incorporate Kinect functionality, most likely they will have the same functions on the PS4 with the eye. The only games that will take advantage of Kinect are first party games and it will be a tacked on feature that will be optional OR they will be Kinect based games like Kinectimals (woohoo...).

Ryse was supposed to be a Kinect based game and MS reversed that like another 180 that they are now know for. Shows how much faith they have in Kinect now doesn't it...

In order for the kinect to have any chance for success the first thing MS must do is guarantee developers that it is present.
After that developers might actually support it better, altho 3rd party developers will be far less inclined than 1st party developers.

these two steps are in no way a guarantee for success, but one of them lacking is a guarantee for failure.

In the end it's mostly about the end cost for the user, and I wish that MS had been willing to take a higher loss instead of propagating the kinect cost onto the customer.

you guys are looking at this too rationally. this isn't about which is the better deal or which will save you more money. i think this is more about Microsoft trying to align their brand with another brand.

take Call of Duty for example. most people know it's also on PS3, but CoD is still synonymous with Xbox 360 and XBL nowadays. this is because MS took steps to align themselves with the brand. so when your average person thinks, "hey, i want to get a console and play some Call of Duty," there's a good chance they think 360. right or wrong, for better or worse, this is what they've done.

and it looks like this is what they're also trying to do with Fifa. it's a massive franchise in certain parts of the world, and having it be synonymous with a console could be huge for Microsoft. whether or not they're able to pull it off is still in question, but i think that's what their goal is, at least for the launch.

I believe someone asked for a fair comparison so here goes:

PS4=$399
XBO=$499

Games: Xbox One has 23 launch games and PS4 has 33. Very many of the big games are the same on both consoles. PS4 has more indie support, 5 great free to play games, and the only motion game is the playroom which comes with the console (although I don't really count this as a proper game, more of a tech demo). A few of the Xbox games are motion only. Shovelware. No real gamer should care for these crappy games.

Add Xbox live, PS+, the PS4 camera and an Xbox one play and charge kit and you have this:

PS4 = $510 with 8 games to play straight off (driveclub, resogun and the 5 free to plays + doki doki universe)

XBO = $580 and 1 game (killer instinct with one character).

If you were to theoretically get FIFA free with Xbox one in the US, PS4 would still be cheaper if you bought it.

Back on topic the reason acknowledging the camera is not pointless is simply so that a fair (you all do know what that means right) comparison can be made.

Because the last time I checked $399.00 + $120.00 (for game and PS Eye) comes to $519.00 which would make it more than getting the X1 with Kinect 2.0 included plus free copy of Fifa for $500.00.

I don't know maybe math has changed since I was at school but $399.00 for PS4 + one PS Eye $60.00 + copy of Fifa $60.00 hmmmmm nope still comes to $519.00

Theres something crucial that people are forgetting and that is the fact that Fifa 14 is a temporary bundle for preorders in Europe. Which means once its gone the price for an XBOX One with Fifa 14 will be 559€ again versus the PS4 at 459€ which is a 100€ difference in price.

But if you want to do this comparison that Sony is trying to make, you would have to add the price of the camera to have actual matching offerings. System + Game + Camera = $500 Xbox One vs $520 PS4 (US prices since I don't know European conversions).

Granted, not a huge difference at all, but neither is $460 for PS4 + game vs $500 for Xbox One + game.

All these back and forth comments between Sony and MS are interesting to watch, but in the end it all comes down to what each individual gamer's wants and needs are. Price is a big factor, but not always the biggest as we've seen in PS3 vs Xbox 360.

The problem with kinect is that so far from what we have seen it's not offering anything new gameplay wise. We know it's a massive upgrade from the last one with with the crazy amount of sensors, improved camera and mics etc and accurate tracking but it terms of gameplay elements there is nothing new. Is kinect functionality going to even be in Fifa? Will people actually want to use it?

The only new thing we have seen so far is in Dead rising 3 with zombies reacting to the noise picked up by the kinect.

If you want to use kinect for anything else other than gaming you will need a XBL sub (Skype, facecam via twitch not confirmed just an assumption).

So with that said is it fair to force people to pay an experience they don't feel is a game changer or care for motion controls due to reasons stated above because at the end of the day the kinect started life as an optional peripheral an should say that way in my eyes.

Although I am not complaining, I think that it is very odd that the PS4 is cheaper than the Xbox.

Sony have engineered a more powerful product into a smaller space and managed to include the PSU within the product. Also, when comparing their predecessors, there was an obvious difference in build quality between the two that I think Sony deserved credit for.

It would be nice if everyone around here actually had some respect for other peoples choice of platform and showed some humility by praising what aspects of the other platform are impressive and even admitting a little jealousy on those things you can't have as, unless you have alot of spare time and money, there is no way you can enjoy everything that gaming can ultimately give.

It was supposed to be a great piece of hardware last time, and they still haven't SHOWN it to be great yet, particularly in core gaming, which is who's gonna be buying these things at launch. As of now, it's just an added expense.

Not like the 360 headset was much better, and the XB1 headset is a lot like that. PLUS there's the big fact that whatever headset you bought for your PS3 will work on PS4, while the same isn't true for XB1... unless you pay Microsoft for an adapter.

Xbox 360 Kinect has had many games made specifically for it and most were not very fun to play. Being forced to buy the Kinect will not automatically mean that there will be lots of good games being made for. the nature of it makes it a niche kinda thing like 3D or playing with a glove(no pun intended)

FIFA addition does add better value to the overall package. It is still more expensive than the PS4 and game alone, but there is the Kinect that is included in the box. Yeah, yeah, I know a lot you don't care about Kinect, but it is there and it is a part of the console. with the free game and the included headset, the 500 dollar asking price doesn't seem as bad. Of course, if you've already made up your mind that you aren't interested in what Kinect has to offer, then the 459 PS4 and gameprice is definitely going to be more appealing.

I'll bet within this gen developers will be offering experiences coupled with Kinect that you can't do anywhere else. Coupled with the fact that Oculus Rift is picking up a ton of momentum and the X1 (Phil Harrison stated) already has high speed ports capable of supporting it.

How long will it be until you get a game that combines the Rift, controller and Kinect for the ultimate experience? The Kinect came late to the 360 and I don't doubt at all eventually Micro will look to do something with Oculus tech.

If the Media molecule unannounced game is based on a Move tech demo as another article suggested, fans will have to buy a camera and Move anyway. I'm sure both systems will have some interesting games using the cameras. I don't understand the Kinect hate. MM will either sell fewer copies, or Sony well use it to get people to shell out cash for a Move. Personally both systems should at least come with a camera

Even if PS4 was the exact same damn price as XBOne, I would still choose to buy PS4. I hate the fact that i can't choose among all the options. What if i want something cheaper with the game I WANT? I don't care about FIFA, i don't like motion control games (Kinect, Move, whatever) and i don't like spending €/$xxx more for something i didn't ask for. Kinect is going to get lot of support? Good, another reason for me to buy a PS4, i always preferred a joypad in my hand to play my favourite games. It would be different if the XboxOne had that price, but with a different deal: XboxOne + Kinect + Fifa (deal 1, for the lovers of the camera and arms flappers), XBO + 3 games of your choices (deal 2, i could choose which game to get, with a super discount in the end), XBO only (if you don't like the games out now or if you're not interested in the whole camera thing). Maybe with the last option it would be even cheaper than a PS4. How much could be a Kinect 2.0? About €/$150? Then, removing it, the console would cost about €/$350...
Just my thoughts, maybe there's something bigger behing but to be honest i'm not caring about that, i see only a more expensive console with a game and a peripheral i don't want .

Although I agree with the majority that the Kinect camera should not be forced upon you with the day one xbone bundle, at some point I would like to try it. I know Kinect 1 was no good, but was a good idea. Microsoft just did not follow through with 1:1 movement ratio and solid games. Maybe they have fixed the Kinect camera with 2.0 and it is worth a try. like I said though, I do not like that kinect 2.0 is forced on you even though the bundle with fifa is a good value. For this reason, somewhere down the line I will try xbone, just not at launch because ps4 comes with the features I want with a day one purchase of a next gen console.

surround sound systems do not need an hdmi slot in for your info, it is much easier to put all your hdmi OUT to your AVR... my yamaha avr switches to ps3 automatically as soon as I turn it on. I don't have to speak to my stupid tv, or avr, or to the ghosts in the machine. I just push the PS button and my whole system switches to gaming mode.

And for your "exclusive killer titles" , i will be getting titanfall on 360, dead rising is a game to pick up for 10 dollars used (its fun don't get me wrong but look at the sales of these, they aren't AAA), and I'm much more interested in your statement "...and much more". Do tell

It all boils down to the fact that kinect is a nice to have item, and not a required piece of equipment for a console. Face it, you're only going to be using for for the first 6 months or so, after that it's gonna be gathering dust.

If I want to enjoy a similar experience from both consoles, from my perspective, they will be of the same value given my PS4 does not include the new PSeye. Are the features and game modes the same on both XB1 and PS4? Or are there varying features that differentiate the two?

I'm asking because rather its cheaper to buy on PS4 or bundled with an XB1, I would assume die hard FIFA fans want every feature possible. I personally enjoy FIFA but features aren't all that important to me. I can't wait to test it out on next gen, because I enjoyed the X360 version and I'm in love with the shooting mechanics for FIFA 13 on the VITA. The rear touchpad makes for aiming your shots extremely accurate.

because it shifts the argument in favor of the PS4, regardless of its relevance or not. Fans will use any argument they can, as long it makes their preferred console look better and/or the opposition look worse.

The same sort of logic applies to all the "superior hardware" rhetoric. 1) how many consumers are basing their decision on which console to buy around hardware specs?...You're not buying a PC. Everything (save for exclusives) will be largely the same, due to system parity.

2) The claims are based off nothing but numbers and testimony from Sony employees. No one has actually played games on either system and seen how they actually stack up, and their is little explanation how each console goes about processing and rendering information, graphics, physics, etc. In this regard, higher numbers could actually result in equal or lower performance. I'm not saying this is the case, I'm saying this means little to many of them - they just see the higher numbers and go with it.

There's no way that it would have been worth it for Sony to include the Eye Camera as their technology stands if they were going to charge more for it. Ask yourself why its costs so relatively little to buy it separately on PS3. It's because the controls are frequently awful.

I appreciate that they had the Eye Camera back on PS2 but the Move is just like something that they had to release to tick that box off of 'motion control'. Both the Wii and Xbox360 had FAR more compelling reasons to have motion control.

It's good that the PS3's core games were so good because otherwise Move would have made the console look relatively terrible.

Anyone else thinking a Forza 5 bundle would have felt like a more impressive bundle considering it's only on the X1? They also could have boasted Forza 5 sales a bit later on. ;) Fifa being included just makes it too easy to see the PS4 difference.

What they need to do then is show face scanning with Kinect with making a player in Fifa and make that the amazing feature of that bundle.
