I guess DriveClub will probably be a year long game. Or maybe they'll just keep it in there forever.

Sev3893d ago

That's what it seems like. They do tend to keep first-party titles around for a while. That's one great thing about PS Plus.

Wedge193893d ago

Plus is too amazing. I can't believe how much it offers.

spaceg0st3893d ago

huge reason why my friends and i switched from 360 to ps4

Iltapalanyymi3893d ago

cant wait to get my hands on my ps4 and 9 free games.

TheOneEyedHound3893d ago

9!? Bullshit, the xbox one will also have around 10 free games.

Sike!!!!!!!

_FantasmA_3893d ago

And all 10 of those games are probably Halo.

Iltapalanyymi3893d ago

ahhaaha ha ha xbox only has 1 free game confirmed for launch

Red_Devilz3892d ago

No wonder you have just 1 bubble left

FamilyGuy3893d ago (Edited 3893d ago )

I know right?
I'm seriously debating on whether I'll even buy a retail game at launch. I'll be spending a lot of time checking out the PS+ and free-2-play games first. Spend that money on their content if it's fun rather than buying retail games from the start.

KingKevo3892d ago

Good point. I do want to play Watch_Dogs, AC4, KZ SF, Knack (yeah),CoD or BF, but I will definitely not buy all of them at launch especially when I get quite a few games for free including the FTP games of which some might actually be a lot of fun.

I guess I'll just buy two games at launch and maybe a few more around Xmas.

But too many options (retail games, downloadable games, FTP games) and games to choose from really is a nice problem to have when a console launches. Best launch ever imho.

JunoDivided3893d ago

Such a great service I have gotten Hitman saints row deus ex xcom and a ton of other less known but still great games

RiPPn3893d ago

All that for less than the price of a retail game. It still seems too good to be real.

E2S3892d ago

oh crap, forgot hitman. Gotta dl it.

Philoctetes3893d ago

In before the trolls start with "It's just a rental."

mushroomwig3893d ago

Honestly that whole "renting" argument really doesn't make any sense, people don't say that about Netflix, Lovefilm or any other subscription service.

sentury1113893d ago

well, to be fair those services are advertised as such.

admiralvic3893d ago

Because they're completely different?

I get Netflix and I get the ability to stream whatever they have for the period of my subscription. Most people will watch their movie and be happy, since how many people watch THAT many movies a second time?

Plus gives you a finite number of games that you take possession of and own till your sub runs out. This is the main draw, plus most people refer to the games as being free instead of "subscription based rentals", though I don't blame anyone for saying free over that.

HammadTheBeast3892d ago

Even if you say it's a rental....

It's tons of games which you get to rent for a YEAR, all for less than the price of a retail game.

JackStraw3892d ago

@admiralvic do you understand what the word finite means? the services are exactly the same. you pay X amount of dollars to access Y amount of content for Z amount of time. when you stop paying for netflix can you still logon and watch movies?

"I get Netflix and I get the ability to stream whatever they have (THIS DOES NOT MEAN INFINITE CONTENT, IT IS STILL "FINITE") for the period of my subscription. (i.e., UNTIL YOUR SUB RUNS OUT)"

"Plus gives you a finite number of games (i.e. WHATEVER THEY HAVE) that you take possession of and own till your sub runs out. (i.e., FOR THE PERIOD OF YOUR SUBSCRIPTION)"

your entire comment was one huge contradiction.

Most Offensive Video Games That Would Never Cut It Today

Times are changing, and these games would have never been made in today's climate.

thorstein32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

Every single time someone uses this phrase whether it's music, movies, books, comics, video games, etc it's always the same claim.

The ubiquitous "they" won't allow it to be made. And every decade these claims are made the claimant completely ignores all the "offensive" material that is published when the claim is made.

In ten years, you can write a new article about how you can't make games like Helldivers 2, Resident Evil VIII, Mortal Kombat I, Dragon's Dogma 2, Alan Wake 2 etc etc etc any more.

MrBaskerville31d ago

Yeah, people wouldn't be constantly outraged if there weren't games that people found enraging. The whole SBI discourse shit wouldn't be a thing if all games were inoffensive. A game like Starfield can make a guy froth at his mouth, so there will always be room for a list like this.

0hMyGandhi30d ago

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you, but there are massive caveats.
TV shows like Venture Bros, Ren and Stimpy, and Aqua Team wouldn't/couldn't be made today. Hell, Ren and Stimpy was a *children's* show, same thing with Rocko's Modern Life.

It's not for some arbitrary reason, either. It's branding and IP alignment. Companies are far more risk-averse than they were when I was kid in the 90's. Of course, you have companies coming out of the woodwork to hell spur on similar content, but remember: Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon and some incredibly provocative material.

And for movies? it's pretty obvious. American Pie/Wedding Crashers/Eurotrip among many other "raunch coms" have fallen out of style, and are absolutely outside what the modern day film industry is willing to stand by.
Ace Ventura 1 and 2, Dumb and Dumber, Freddy Got Fingered, Rat Race, Harold and Kumar, and Van Wilder follow suit.

Remember: I am not explicitly talking about films put onto streamers. I am talking wide-releases in actual theaters. Same thing goes for games: Carmageddon, Duke Nukem, Manhunt, Six Days In Fallujah (with their original concept), Hatred, and so on and so forth. Of course, I'd be inclined to mention most tactical shooters like Rainbow Six and Joint Ops as well, due to cultural sensitivity regarding *who* you are shooting and why.

And not all of it is bad (obviously). Tastes change, and perspectives change to fit the demographic.
I should add that I'm a lefty, living in L.A. Working in film.

thorstein30d ago

The Boys, Invincible, Jojo Rabbit, Deadpool, Gen V, Last of Us, Banshee... There are plenty of media being made today that people will claim "can't be made today".

Profchaos30d ago

Yeah but if you consider manhunt which was basically a snuff film could you seriously make that game with high than PS2 era graphics.

thorstein30d ago

The Outlast Trials just came out.

But the storyline of Manhunt was that you were executed. But then lived. And if you didn't do as you were told, you'd die. And the people you killed were not innocents.

It was all filmed by a psychopath.

As we speak GTA VI is being finished up for a release. You get to play a Bonnie and Clyde type of protagonist who run up against the law.

Bodycam looks so real.

People are making those games. Articles like this will always exist no matter how incorrect they are, no matter how many times they blame "them" for whatever it is "they" do to prevent "those" games from being made.

Number1TailzFan31d ago

The UK is the biggest junk country pandering to that nonsense as well, with laws against free speech and expression to match. It got so bad even Rowan Atkinson made a video on free speech about it.

Now the UK raises the age rating on harmless films like Mary Poppins, it's just a load of pansy weak ass nonsense.

MrDead31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

The right wing Tories have been in power in the UK for the 14 years you know the ones that are "anti-woke", blame them for your perceptions.

Killer2020UK31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Are these snowflakes in the room with us now?

This is more faux outrage designed to get hits. The consequences are unfortunately creating hysteria amongst those willing to buy into it and blame "them" or "the left" or "liberals" meanwhile the left are kicking off about genocide, actual real world abhorrent acts. Nobody is campaigning to censor this shit.

Huey_My_D_Long30d ago

Not too mention the fact that some of these game are controversial for you know, underage porn and encouraging rape.

So either the guy just came in to comment snowflakes without reading anything, or he is calling people snowflakes for having a problem with said titles. Crazy how much brain rot someone can have.

banger8831d ago

Dead Island: "The early PC version of the zombie game swapped the playable character Purna’s Gender Wars skill with a prototype name, which shouldn’t be mentioned directly. The skill name made fun of both Purna as a character and feminists."

"Feminist Whore" lmao

gold_drake31d ago

ill add one more to the list.
drakengard 1.

its ridiculous tho, especially since they'd still be able to find their place in alot of places in the world. except america of course ha. and maybe Australia.

ppl are so sensitive these days. ha. but it is what it is.

Barlos31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

They're not offensive.

And we need another Fat Princess. Fantastic little game!

Some people just have no sense of humour if this sort of thing offends them. They need to lighten up and stop taking themselves so seriously.

Deeeeznuuuts31d ago

Would love a new fat princess game 🤟

CantThinkOfAUsername31d ago

Games literally about sexual assault, mass genocide, bombing civilians, and school shooting. None of which is satirical.

isarai31d ago

Actually it's about fat princesses

Huey_My_D_Long30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Its crazy that people are fixated on Fat princess when clearly the list is going over controversies, and not all of them are equal. Like way worse examples but pretend the entire list is like that.

60FPS on PS5: Unofficial PS5 'FPS Boost' mods are radically improving PS4 back compat

Digital Foundry : Whether it's via FPS Boost or bespoke software upgrades, backwards compatibility on the current-gen consoles delivered an unexpected delight - the ability to liberate older console games from their 30fps limits, running them at 60 frames per second or even higher. FPS Boost did the business for Xbox Series consoles on an impressive range of titles, but there was always the sense that PS5 could do more. It's a hunch that checks out as a range of frame-rate unlocks are available for PS5, covering many must-have games - the major caveat being that only exploitable consoles running on older firmwares are invited to the party.

you love to see new life being breathed into older titles but damn the process to get there. It should be automatic that these work for everyone... not just those who exploit their systems. Really wish Sony and MS would keep this program going officially.

Psychonaut8598d ago

Damn this sucks. I want this shit so bad, but I’m not jailbreaking my console. And frankly I shouldn’t have to. I’m not a tech person, but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate? Or would that have to be a large patch?

dveio98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

"but is it really that hard for developers to unlock the framerate?"

I guess it's not.

But it has become a profitable business if you do so.

So no one would pay for only the framerate patched to being unlocked. So studios need to offer more than that.

But this would take more time, polishing and would cost more money. So they shy away, but won't unlock the framerate, either.

That's just my personal assumption. But from what I can comprehend technically, it shouldn't be difficult to unlock framerates via a patch for older games.

... if it hadn't became a business.

RaidenBlack98d ago (Edited 98d ago )

frame-rate unlock should be free ...
We've seen many devs offer free patches and updates to pretty old PC titles, even bonuses ... so why can't devs offer the frame unlock patch for free (in consultation with the platform-producers) for a title from just a generation earlier?

Einhander197298d ago

RaidenBlack

"frame-rate unlock should be free ..."

Obviously the result of that thinking is that developers aren't even going to do it.

If they had been allowed to charge $5-10 you would see incentivized developers doing it way more often.

People just always want everything for free, but it's not free to make the patch, people have to code it then other people have to test it, and there will always be other costs involved.

If people want dollar store gaming then expect to get what you pay for.

shinoff218397d ago (Edited 97d ago )

Raiden I might be wrong but last I thought it cost money to put patches out on consoles.

As far as me paying for it, I'm not all that interested tbh. Not enough to pay for it with older games, and newer games have been pretty decent about it for the most part.

dumahim98d ago

Sounds like the modder has to go in to make changes to unlock it on a game by game basis. "Simple" enough to do it unofficially, but to have it done officially, they need someone to go in a make that change, put out a patch and put it through certification, which I believe is not necessarily a cheap thing to do. It's questionable if going through this would then give them enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Inverno97d ago

Many games still have physics tied to framerate, i think it's cause they wouldn't want to go in and do anything extra. Then there's the 10 dollar upgrades they rather charge. The problem is that there's no compromise, cause if I could mod my PS4 and all I'd lose is online play then id jailbreak it immediately. Mods have done so much for PC games and they could do the same for consoles, but manufacturers hafto be willing to compromise.

shinoff218397d ago

It's not to hard to do and there's youtube videos that break it down really well. ANyway most of us here arent able to break are console anyway due to being up to date on firmware from playing

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 97d ago
Chocoburger98d ago

Yep, this sucks having to require a jailbreak for something that should be standard in our industry by now. I learned my lesson when PS4 was jailbroken and I didn't keep a console on low firmware for years, but now I'm holding onto two low firmware PS5s specifically because there are features I'll be able to do that you can't do on official firmware, so this will pay off for me soon enough.

Jin_Sakai97d ago

It should be a sin to let these games sit and be stuck at 30fps.

EazyC97d ago

RDR 2 not getting a 60FPS patch for PS5 was a crime.
