Whenever someone comes out and says the PS4 is the superior console, tech wise and thus graphic wise (for those that care about that kind of thing), there is always something Camp Xbox will bring up to say that that's not true. I think it's entirely possible it's the XB1. PS4 have added their own 11.2 style feature set to the PS4 but it's bespoke for the PS4. Developers aren't going to slave to make one console better than they other. It has to be easy and quick.
It could be making use of GDDr5 or 11.2 we don't know

Microsoft is hoping DirectX 11.2 can offset the extra power of the PS4 with tricks. Wether or not it can actually do it still remains unknown. It wouldn't be a spectacular difference if that was the case.

PS4 has more hardware. So odds are its the PS4. Considering PC assets likely will be the baseline for the graphics it could mean 1box is intended to have better looking version, but PS4 hardware could outweigh that with its extra GPU compute cores and shaders. There is no way of knowing without seeing both versions.

Ps4 has the more graphics centric GDDR5 and a unified memory structure to compensate for the inherent latency issues of GDDR5.. So basically the Ps4 has all of the advantages of GDDR5(which surpass DDR3) and none of the weaknesses..

If everyone recalls the only advantage the 360 had this previous gen was unified memory which spelled easier coding and the result was slightly better MultiPlats in a lot of cases.. I think Sony has this generation nailed...

Initially the fact that the PS4 had more RAW power was common knowledge. That shouldn't surprise anyone. But he was actually surprised at the "Little" more power that "ONE" had over the other.

If it was the ps4, why would he be surprised? Hmmmm think about it.

I've known for a while that he xbox one's architecture was unique and offered some graphical advantages that don't show up in RAW numbers. Maybe the devs are "Surprised" out how it gives an edge once they start developing for it.

People make a big stink about the Ram difference, but the Best Gaming Computers use the same RAM choice as the Xbox ONE. It's a more proven RAM for gaming regardless. If the PS4 ram was so much better for gaming, that would mean that the graphics on the ps4 would surpass the top of the line computers. NOPE!

So how could the console that has had the clear RAW power advantage "Surprise" a dev?

Xbox ONE is surprising the devs! All you have to do is look at the launch games and it's pretty obvious.

By most PC gaming standards dual 570's are pretty much obsolete. They are beaten by a single gtx 680 and a HD7990. Which surprisingly both those cards and my cards all use GDDR5 Ram.

ROFL!!!! your talking about Random Access Memory. The stuff that is used for your background operations.
Random Access Memory helps off-set the latency. It achieves this by expanding the bandwith between the CPU and GPU.

Consoles have an APU. There is no dedicated GPU or CPU. It is all in one chip.

Also read the article on how the developing creators of both consoles APU's released a bombshell as to why one console will be surprisingly tad bit powerfull then expected.

It's not because of the GDDR5, though that is obviously very useful. The increase in graphics is because the PS4's GPU is 50% faster. They can get the same framerate as the Xbox One version while doing far more graphically.

While I will concede there is a very very small possibility it's the X1, I think we can all safely assume it's the PS4.

Sure it's great that NFS:R will perform a little better on the PS4, but lets all take a step back an look at the bigger issue.

If EA is going to allow their developers to actually take advantage of the PS4 hardware, we can safely assume (again) that all multiplatform developers are going to be taking advantage.

If you take some of the telling statements here and from other articles and couple that with the fact that devs are looking to build on the PS4 more than the other then, yes MS could be in trouble.

All the "our launch exclusives games are better" won't mean a hill of beans if the PS4 multiplats look and perform better than their X1 counterparts. Quite honestly time has shown that Sony's exclusives best Microsoft's.

Because of design choices. Evolution has chosen to make graphics inclusions that make 60fps more difficult to achieve than Forza.

As an(other) aside, fps doesn't directly determine which console is stronger, unless you're comparing the same game. If we were talking Need for Speed, and saying the PS4 version maxed out at 30fps while the XB1 version topped out at 60, and ALL assets and features were the same, then you could argue the XB1 was more powerful.

As it stands, you might as well replace Drive Club with Gran Turismo, as Forza simply isn't pushing as many graphically intensive features. If it did, odds are Turn 10 would have to lower framerate in order to include them.

I don't think the same as far as parity goes. I think 3rd party parity was so common this gen because it would have cost much more money/time to take full advantage of one system over the other. But with the similarities in the core architectures of the PS4/Xbone, I think it may be possible for these 3rd party devs to upscale taking advantage of the extra power one system has.

The differences will be small in the beginning, but I believe they will become more noticeable over time.

These 3rd party devs are in a tough position because they still need to sell their product on the inferior console, so they can't come out and say one version is better than the other.

I can't wait until these machines are in the open and we get real world comparisons of the same title running on each system, that's when things will get interesting.

Yeah NFS does suck now. When I got the new Most wanted I as shocked at how similar it was to Undercover that I played in like 2008. It hasnt moved on, it's only added more and more bad things, (other than autolog and better gfx obviously). The new MW was so bad, you couldnt even customise your own cars and really own them, they still don't seem to realise what made games like Underground a big success.

If developers make one console version better than the other than people will just purchase games for one console and the other will die. With no competition Sony will just do what they did when they introduced the PS3. Competition is good its what keeps things balanced, having one console killing the other does nothing to progress gaming just look at Madden for example.

I would argue that the best gaming generations came when a single console dominated. Just look at the NES, SNES, PS1 and PS2 generations. Those consoles owned the market and consumers didn't suffer for it.

When devs have to develop the same game for 3 or 4 platforms it takes time and resources away from new projects.

This gen is going to be fun to watch, especially if Sony gets to 2 to 3 times the installed base of the competition.

The clouds in Fallout 4 swayed more on the 360 than the PS3. Check out how the dirt rolls to the side when playing Toy Story 3 for the 360 and how it rolls to the other side when playing the PS3.

A game that...Yes I find myself wanting to play, Titanfall on the X1, has sacrificed 1080p for a stable 60fps is telling in and of itself! I'm not saying the PS4 won't run into these kind of constraints, I just think the X1 will run into them more often.

My question in this is, where in all of this does "Cloud Computing", fit into the equation? It's not showing in visual fidelity, it's not shown in fps, the only thing I could as of now, is drop in matchmaking!

One year down the line PS4 exclusive titles are going to look head and shoulders above the competition, just like this generation! Multiplatform titles are also going to show bigger differences! I say this, because the backyards are a hell of a lot bigger than last time. More area to explore more tricks to learn, and above all more money to be made! If there ever was a parity clause with Microsoft, it's probably null and void, and in order for them to initiate something along the lines this generation, they would ultimately be on the losing end.

If I owned a 'weaker' console and the multi-platform game I purchased for it was not as good as the version on another console, then so be it. if I chose to buy the 'weaker' console then chances are I may get games that do not perform as well or look as good compared to another console, though this may also depend on the developer. I don't think parity should be forced.
Perhaps someone can answer this, is it better to port a game from one platform to another, or develop separately on each platform?

Developers do not need to port as such this next gen as both XB1 and PS4 have over 5GB Ram, the same 8-core CPU and AMD graphics. The core of the development should be the same.

Yes you can tweak the final implementation and and add system specific features like camera and app-integration for XB1 and utilise the strong PS4 GPU and tablet/app features.

Lets give the developers and the architects a few years to fully get to grips with all this new tech. Look how social media has expanded this gaming gen. Who knows what lies in store. Whatever it is, it's going to be a great ride so strap yourselves in!

Really its down like this generation to how much money thats being thrown at the developers as to what console gets the better version when it comes to third party.

I know PS4 is more powerful and i cannot wait to see what they will come up with but i hold little up for the games industry off today they are more compelled by what comes out off your pocket than to how they can push your consoles to display there latest works.

This is actually great news that we should all celebrate.

Current gen was full of Multi-plat games being held back because of lack of BluRay, etc. Now both have BluRay, over 5GB Ram and 8-core CPU. Just develop to their strengths.

The Wii had different versions to cater for its strengths now let's have XB1 games with camera and more app-integration for their multi-OS system. And lets have PS4 games that maximise the GPU/GDDR5 capabilities.

What is so wrong with that? We all get games more optimised to the console it is on.

You do realize that the Ps4 has more second screen options than the ONE right? There's a phone/tablet app and the ability to use the Vita in conjunction with the PS4. Not to mention that the new PS camera is just as robust as Kinect 2.0.. Sony has been doing a very poor job of marketing the new camera but it has the ability to capture video from 320x190 @ a blistering 240 frames per second all the way up to 1280x900 resolution @ 60 frames per second.. It has a two lens array that allows for accurate depth of field detection, can rip a persons image and supplant it into a game or app, log a player in based on their face, and a microphone array to enable voice commands.. Essentially the new playstation camera is just as capable as Kinect 2.0.. Sony is hitting on all cylinders for the PS4, it's going to be tough for Microsoft to gain any type of advantage aside from throwing large wads of cash at developers...

There were minor differences between any of the multiplats on the ps3 and 360.. It usually ended up being a ram issue that cause AA problems or frame rate issues.. But on the whole the games played exactly the same... This whole argument was debunked years ago.. Besides the Exclusive superiority of PS3 titles more than made up for any of the issues ps3 gamers had to endure.. We're still getting AAA blockbuster titles...

Well, NFS was shown on the X1 during gamescom, so it would only make sense to show the game on the best console for it. A lot of people probably think it's the PS4 simply because the gddr5 has gotten a lot of hype, but the X1 is also pretty powerful. And since NOBODY here really knows the final specs of the X1, they should't be to quick to crown the PS4 as the most powerful console.... YET.

Look at the d-pad on the top-left. That video is the PS4 version.

Also, the version they showed at gamescom at the press conference wasn't on the Xbox ONE. Look at the "Select spawn point" option. It's represented by a button with a bold, right arrow on it, meaning they were using a 360 controller. It's being played on a PC.

Isn't it strange how no multiplat developer is showing the Xbox ONE version of their games? BF4, which was announced at the Xbox ONE E3 and has an exclusive deal with Microsoft, was playable on the PS4 at gamescom but the Xbox ONE version was nowhere to be seen.
