Hardcore Gamer: Microsoft plans to discontinue the service beginning on July 1 2014. Apparently, Age of Empires Online will be shutdown in response to this, which also raises the question of what will happen to games that required similar infrastructure.
Kevin Unangst, senior director for PC gaming in the Xbox group, was more forthright in his assessment of Games for Windows than expected when we caught up with him at Gamescom today.
Yeah Because Pc gamers are not dumb enough to pay to play online , if we as console gamers refused to use it , Xbox live and PSN would not be paid online
Jeez ya think Microsoft? Trying to get PC gamers to pay for online multiplayer on an open platform like console gamers would on a closed platform was one of their worst ideas.
Codemasters has announced DiRT 3 has ditched Games for Windows live for Steamworks. All who own the game on PC will be upgraded to the Complete Edition, which includes all DLC at no extra cost.
Got mine installed and could not be happier.
I was so pissed that i lost my purchased DLC from windows live and i could not get them back in the game when it was demised.
Fyi: For those who see it listed on steam as something they need ti purchase even if they already bought the game.
You need to Un-install the game from your library go back to the store page and once in there you will the PLAY NOW button and you can install it.
With Dark Souls having scraped the last remnants of Games for Windows Live from its shoe, there aren't many non-Microsoft games left still using the deservedly maligned service. Here's one: DiRT 3. Codemasters had previously suggested they would be moving the rally racer to Steamworks, but, as of this very moment, that hasn't happened.
They have said that 1 year ago. And still they did nothing.
YES.
Our prayers have been finally answered. The world of PC gamers is saved from a terrible curse.
THANK GOD
A damn disease, it is.
Shouldn't have even existed in the first place.
Lol at the comments no wonder they close the damn thing.
