I doubt Sony will visit the franchise again after the terrible sales

chrispseuphoria3894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

It did not sell horribly. It sold more than a million copies...

It was less than expected but it wasn't horrible. Shuhei Yoshida said "it sold pretty well."

admiralvic3894d ago

What is Shuhei Yoshida going to say "We're sorry that it was a total and complete failure." ?

It wasn't profitable, which makes it a failure.

fsfsxii3894d ago

@admiralvic
Do you work at Sony??
Geez, i really don't like people that spew lies out of their mouths.

Bundi3894d ago

Sony also said that the PSP go was selling according to expectations...then they stripped making it. Same for the Vita, then they dropped projected sales by more than half.

admiralvic3894d ago

@ Fsfsxii

I'm sorry. They totally cancel DLC and change developers when games are super successful and are making a tons of profit.

Misaka_x_Touma3894d ago

across two platforms
getting ps3 version gets ps vita version free

the fact that the prices went down one month after launch

Sony says anything is good regardless who it really is.

Hicken3894d ago

@admiralvic: Do you have financials proving All Stars wasn't profitable? No? Well, then.

And the dev was "canned" as they were put together solely for the game. Game complete, job finished, on to other projects. For all we know, DLC was ended to work on entry 2, which could well be among the games listed at Gamescom or TGS.

Your comments are usually more informed, so I'm sure I don't have to tell you that every game doesn't have to sell gangbusters in order to be a success. A million or so copies of a very niche title late in the life of one console and with the small install base of another sounds pretty good.

@Bundi: Don't think they ever said that about the Go, which anyone could tell wasn't a PSP successor, anyway.

Oh, wait. You're a troll. Nevermind.

Ignorance at its finest.

OT:
They should make it 3D battles instead of 2D

jcnba283894d ago

This franchise is dead. Put that money into the last guardian development.

bjmartynhak3894d ago (Edited 3894d ago )

Nah, call a next version "PlayStation Smash" and assume that it is a clone.

I agree with the other points

PopRocks3593894d ago

Why not explore new gameplay ideas in a sequel? Rather than Smash Bros. style, they could perhaps try something closer to Anarchy Reigns or Power Stone? Just a thought. I always figured since almost every character in PSA:BR are in 3D games, not 2D, they would be better off in a 3D fighter.

Tontus3894d ago

Why like Anarchy Reigns or Power Stone? They should've made it more like God of War: Ascension's multiplayer component, that would be awesome.

Also if they ever make a sequel it should have a proper single player campaign and a great story, could be something special.

I'd be surprised if they ever make a sequel to be honest.

PopRocks3593894d ago

The first game had some fair success to it. But they can do more with it and explore the character interactions in my opinion.

Also the Anarchy Reigns/Power Stone thing was just a suggestion. I was saying they can explore other gameplay fighting styles. I wasn't trying to say they should relegate it to just one. Either way, I feel if they do another, it should have 3D gameplay and not 2D.

Hicken3894d ago

How many copies do you think SSB will sell on PS4?

Ohhh, that's right. It's gonna steal as many sales as Forza steals from GT.

NONE.

BOWZER353894d ago

Oh ya and that's why all stars doesn't need to recover.

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Launched 10 Years Too Early

Though PlayStation All Stars Battle Royale is a bit of a cult classic, it could have been a big hit if it launched in 2022 instead of 2012.

It wouldn't have mattered, Sony would've rushed it out and left it to die. More so now than before with their focus now being on SP narrative driven AAA games.

CrimsonWing69513d ago

Oh, but somehow Smash Bros. 64 made it work?

It just couldn’t compete with Smash Bros. and it wasn’t a free-to-play game like Multiversus.

PapaBop513d ago

I think it released at the right time. It's just after the success of Smash and Multiversus, it's finally time for a sequel.

spoonard513d ago

I'd be all in on a remake or remaster of the original. I enjoyed it because I didn't sit there and compare every aspect to SSB. I just enjoyed it as it was.

Magatsuhi513d ago

Sony should make part 2 and dump a good amount of money on it. Scrap super only kills and it's bound to succeed.

Father__Merrin513d ago

Yes the power kills spoilt it completely WTH was they thinking you should have hp bar that's it

God of War: Ragnarok Weirdly Makes PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale Canon

God of War: Ragnarok has plenty of fun references to PlayStation history, but now fans have discovered a conversation that calls back to PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale — the crossover fighting game released for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita.

Nyxus520d ago

I wouldn't say canon. More like an easter egg.

Deathdeliverer519d ago

That’s interesting. It actually does make it canon lol. He mentioned it in a mainline game. I’d say that’s pretty cool.
