Imitation, Evolution, and Metal Gear Solid 5

USgamer: "Is the Metal Gear series throwing away its heritage and personality by latching onto concepts from more successful games? Or is it all part of Hideo Kojima's master plan?"

ABeastNamedTariq3907d ago

Comment from the article:

"MGS has always felt like it was blazing its own path with every iteration. MGS5 seems like its no different. Despite the obvious allusions to Assassin's Creed and maybe even Red Dead, MGS5 still looks like its a product from its creator rather than the design by committee creation you feel from other AAA titles."

Exactly. MGS is in a league of its own. I don't particularly understand what MGS takes from AC though. But I will admit that V looks a little like RDR (traveling-wise).

trenso13907d ago

I felt it was a good read though I don't really get what metal gear is taking from assasins creed at all really. We don't see snake stabbing people from roofs or free running around cities. They both do their own thing IMO.

crimsonfox3907d ago (Edited 3907d ago )

I'm thinking the same thing. Is it the jump he does onto the roof during the E3 trailer?

Anyway. I have literally watched that trailer multiple times a day since it was released. Kojima constantly makes my jaw drop at the amount of detail he puts into his trailers. Even the song "sins of the Father" is deeper than anything else on the video game market by it's self.

I can't wait to see the new trailers I'm sure he's working on. Better yet, to get my hands on the game it self. My two favorite franchises are GTA and MGS and every time GTA is close MGS isn't to far behind. San Andreas/ Snake eater
GTA IV / MGS 4
I'm hoping we get MGS V at a sooner date. Because I'm literally dying to play both games. I'm a very happy gamer right now.

TheOneWhoIsTornApart3907d ago

Im sorry but MGS has always and will always stand on it's own. Kojima has a signiture style of game creation that no one else in the world has and to all the people saying that MGSV is copying Red Dead Redemption are ridiculous. Rockstar games does not own the rights to desert environments and horse riding. Im sick of people thinking so 1 dimensional about video games.

crazysammy3907d ago

Only one game is allowed to have horses... apparently.

AntoineDcoolette3907d ago

Assassin's Creed? That game came out in 2007 and had horses years before RDR!

XboxFun3907d ago

MGS5 looks to be a stunner of a game. As much as the story line is, well...out there I do enjoy the action and scale of it.

I will definitely have this for the 360, or Xbox One is it's released for the next gen systems.

Now we'll have to see how much the Master Collection will add to those numbers.

Number1TailzFan174d ago

Too bad it was a lazy release. They could've updated the visuals and everything. Missed opportunity.

Stanjara174d ago

...and yet, they couldn't give more respect and effort into the collection.
What a terrible company.

Minute Man 721174d ago (Edited 174d ago )

Are they counting every game?

Edit: they did

Nyxus174d ago

Yes, these are total lifetime sales of the entire series.

ApocalypseShadow174d ago

.... mostly with the help of PlayStation.

Yea I don’t get why they’re allowing old reviews to be posted here. Someone did one on Soul Reaver and I got so excited thinking there was some stealth release of an HD Remaster, but no… it’s just someone who had a slow day posted an old review…

Cacabunga190d ago

I liked the game but for me it felt somehow like a military simulator rather than a proper MGS.. i got bored of that

micdagoat19190d ago

I do wish they would remaster all the soul reavers

micdagoat19190d ago

it was done this morning though

goldwyncq190d ago

The author was in a coma for 9 years and didn't get to play the game when it released.

Chocoburger190d ago

This review arrived just in time for launch. Perfect timing!

RupeeHoarder190d ago

Amazing how bad this game looks already. We keep acting like this gen doesn't feel like an update but I think we're starting to see it.

YourMommySpoils190d ago

Looks better than Starfield, Cyberpunk and most recent games out. Still fine.

RupeeHoarder190d ago

It most certainly does not lol.

andy85190d ago

Have you player Cyberpunk since the first day? It's absolutely stunning now

One of the worst games ever made. Absolute overhyped trash!

Snowb420190d ago

The gameplay was great. It was the tacked on open world and repetitive missions that messed the game up.

Shane Kim190d ago

The game started really strong in that hospital, but after a couple of hours I wondered if it was even an mgs game I was playing.

KyRo190d ago

The hospital section was the only bit that felt like a MGS game.

MGS4 was the ending for me. I totally ignore the fact 5 exists. It didn't need to exist tbh
