Dark Souls 2 Preview [Player Attack]

Eeoor writes: I am lucky enough to have attended three E3s. At each one, a different game in the Demon's Souls/Dark Souls lineup has been announced. I have dutifully tried each one, completely failed at the controls and moved on.

But as the games have earned a larger fanbase, it has become harder for me to just put these games in (quite literally) the too-hard basket. At E3 this year, looking at the amazing graphics and yes-it's-even-harder gameplay for Dark Souls 2, I finally made the decision to suck it up and play Dark Souls. It is without doubt the most frustrating game I’ve ever played, but I’m transfixed, and return after every ragequit. I will finish the game, just so I can play the sequel.

"The conceit of the Mirror Knight is a clever one: having a second knight break through the mirrored shield of the first. Even more terrifying is how this will work in the final game. The knight that breaks through the mirror won't be AI controlled, he will be another player, invading your world."

Because F$&K the players, that's why. This game is gonna ROCK!!

Sweet, this game maybe called Dark Souls 2 but every new information keeps sounding like the devs are getting closer to Demon Souls 2. I loved the Old Monk boss fight from demon souls because it was a randomly drawn player as the boss...would have never guessed until I was the boss one time.

Add this to the Demon Souls esque atmosphere (which to me beat Dark Souls anyday), the return of healing items, the near return of a good magic system (there maybe no mana bar still but at least it's unlimited again), and from what we know so far the return to bosses with their own strategy and difficulty making you change the way you play forcing you to think about how to fight (This is something that made Demon Souls an amazing experience, no boss fight was the same unlike Dark Souls where it was just hack n slash boss fights)

From Software has had my love and money since Demon Souls and Dark Souls was a amazing experience despite being a tiny step down from Demon Souls. March can't come fast enough

The game isn't good though.

DS2 was fine. While there was a bit of recycling assets or ideas for bosses, it was a bigger more open Dark Souls. The Fume knight boss is one of the hardest bosses in the series until Sekiro and Elden Ring were released.

The problem with Dark Souls 2 was the same problem when a different director takes over for a sequel to an outstanding movie. It typically (there are exceptions) doesn’t have the feel and vision of the previous movie.

I wouldn’t say Dark Souls 2 is terrible. Had Dark Souls 1 never been a thing and we got this, I think it would have been praised more. The problem is it didn’t have the Miyazaki touch to it and felt pretty derivative. The soundtrack is a banger though.

And it will happen in the future when he doesn’t touch them as he is planning on.

I like DS 2, might even be my favorite of the 3. But it's a hard sell, there's so many obscure things you need to do to make it an enjoyable experience. So always find it hard to recommend, but it is worth the trouble.

All the bosses are only from Dark Souls. No Bloodborne, Sekiro, Elden Ring, or Demon Souls
