Like the author, I have been playing for 30 years so I'm looking forward to the game changing experience that will found on X1. However, there are many gamers that have only been playing for a few years and are in no hurry for gameplay change. There are many gamers that prefer single player games and don't want a significant upgrade in multiplayer. All these players are gamers. I wouldn't even use "true" and "gamer" together to begin with as there are much more important and relative things in life that are true.

Sony didn't keep everyone. Level 5 balled up with its only PS3 game and heavenly sword 2 was cancelled even though the game was awesome!

I'm sad to see these games go. Haze was only disappointing to halo fanboys. The multi player wasn't great but the story was mad fun.

Simple, the PS4 is getting praise because there are almost no people/developers speaking badly about it. The Xbox One however has received a VERY bad reputation and anything "praising" it is pretty much a joke to most gamers. Also, look at the headline. Weren't a majority of gamers mad at how the Xbox One had a lack of games at it's reveal on May 21st? Now it's for true gamers all of the sudden? I've seen many legitimate articles about people expressing there opinions in a positive manner on N4G, and even though it got bashed in the N4G comments sections, they were not directing t toward the author, but toward the Xbox One. And it was Microsoft who said HD gaming isn't the future and didn't include an HDMI port on the 360 when it launched. It's Microsoft who says that Kinect is the future when there hasn't been a single good Kinect title beyond dance/casual games. Where's Kinect Halo, COD, Assassin's Creed, Madden, etc? Those games don't exist because you can't make a fun Halo/COD/Madden Kinect game. It's not possible. Core gamers want nothing to do with it.

Who writes the definition of what a true gamer is? Surely it's not a simple term and can have many variants.

I can't say which is best because I've played neither and "most" of the games will be released for both consoles.

But, as an Xbox owner (not fanboy), there just wasn't enough to pull me over to the PS4 side. I'll be completely honest, I was seriously leaning towards PS4 until MS reversed their "always online" policy.

But I have nothing against PS4. I hope both systems succeed equally as competition amongst large corporations can lead to great and unexpected innovations for the gamers. And that is what I look forward to in the next Gen.

1) Online gaming on Xbox is far superior to any other console.

2) Xbox main exclusives while few crush other exclusives, ex, Halo and Gears make Killzone and Resistance look like B games.

3) Xbox controller is vastly more comfortable and natural than the dual shock (but dual has far better d pad if need it).

4) MS has a bigger war chest and will continue to innovate technology and buy exclusives

5) Looking ahead to X1:

MS fixed the d pad (now better in every way

MS is investing heavily in exclusives and new IPs (while this probably won't catch up to Sony, it narrows the gap)

dedicated Kinect 2 is a much needed gamechanger, gameenhancer

cloud based technology will make games better and improve the already superior online gaming significantly, and give developers a higher ceiling than any other console

I can agree with this. Up till this gen, I bought both PS and Xbox every gen (along with Nintendo and Dreamcast). I used to say that gamers would buy all systems, but after seeing how PS4 is just willing to put out a slightly beefed up PS3 with no new exciting exclusives (aside from Order)..I'd say it's safe to say you can skip it (UNLESS in your opinion you like their exclusives) That aside, with the greatly updated XBL compared to PSN which still doesn't match up to current XBL....serious gamers would be nuts not to want a XB1. This isn't saying that you can't also get a PS4 if you like the exclusives, you'd be nuts not to if you do, but if you don't care or prefer XB1 exclusives you'd be dumb not to get one...and if you can get both, getting XB1 for 3rd party games...esp MP/MMO/Sandbox titles is a must. Some people are just blind I guess. Sony is the only company that has consistently supported multiple consoles with each new generation. Even with a new system out they still support the previous one while giving early adopters great games to play. They also eventually show the ones who wait why they should make the switch to the new console. Unlike other companies who pretty much force the new console on people because they abandon the previous one years in advance.

Also timed exclusive games and DLC is not going to be enough this gen and with so many of Microsoft's so called new studios unproven. Well they have a lot to do to change some people's mind about why they should follow their vision of the future of gaming.

I don't understand how any semi intelligent person could see the Xbox as more appealing than the PS4, from a GAMING point of view anyway. I don't want apps or gimmicks or pointless features, i want games, and Sony exclusives are the best gaming experiences ive ever had, no amount of family fun kinect or TV could change that.

And to be honest, there are a couple of games i would like to play on the Xbox (Big time Forza fan and Titanfall although i think thats only a timed exclusive) but, i dont think ill miss those games after the Sony 1st party devs start pumping our their games, i guarantee it will be a repeat performance of this gen game-wise. I am serious. The service runs a lot smoother than PS online. Downloads are quicker, online play is better, the service doesn't go down for a month because of poor security, the UI is better and so Live features are displayed better.
There are also a lot of things behind the paywall beyond gaming that I make use of like the Sky player and On Demand apps. I've been using these for years and are things that were available for a long time before PS had them. Yes I'm serious.

Don't get me wrong having games run at 1080p at 60 FPS is nice but if a game doesn't it is not going to deter me from a purchase. If the game still runs smoothly, has good design, and has asthetically pleasing graphics it won't phase me.

For the fact the article is mentioning that Microsoft is being more like the PS4 should ring some bells of who's business model is better. As with the Kinect argument if the technology was perfected having a complete buttonless games brings up limitations. The best experience would be motion controls in tantem with buttons hence the Move.

The PS Move can do what the controller can't and can do, thus expanding the possibilities, and for complete motion controlled games would just use the PS Eye being more versatile.

I have been gaming the same amount of time, I have and still own every console I've had the chance to buy, and I'm going with Sony and I was a 360 Fanboy. MS needs to learn a lesson in humility, and no matter what MS thinks I can guarantee 80% if not more of their customers don't want the Kinect. Hello! I am a PS3 owner , never owned an Xbox360 due to general disappointment over RROD and exclusives, liked Sony's presentations on the PS4, was despondent at Microsoft's XboxOne beige-like reveal and am not particularly bothered about having the Kinect but, once the games were announced, I am considering an Xbox One now (but not ruling out a PS4 later on).

I was never put off in the slightest by the used game policy. I buy new and the family share plan sounded good.

I'd like the chance to play Remedy's next game, Quantum Break (plus I'd like to play Alan Wake for the first time- maybe I'll be able to download it on the XboxOne, not wanting to risk my aging PC not being quite up to scratch for graphics card).

I like the look of Ryse. I even quite like the look of Dead Rising 3 despite not being bothered about the series before.

I'm not a racing fan in general but Forza looks arcadey enough to interest me. The dull realism of Gran Turismo is not for me.

Finally, I've never been bothered about Insomniac until now that they've announced Sunset Overdrive. I think it looks beautiful. Yes I am concerned that it might not sell well (it looks a bit Jet Set Radio Future-like in style which didn't do massively well on its own) but they must keep that style as any compromise will not go down well. Hopefully the mutants and shooting will make it have more of a mass appeal.

I play what I like, which I'm fortunately able to afford all of them, past, present and future. Sony had a an extra generation (ps1) which introduced great franchises like Crash Bandicoot (MIA), Twisted Metal (sequels across PS2 and PS3)Parappa the Rapper, Warhawk, Gran Turismo PS2 introduced God of War, ICO/ Shadow of the Colossus, Killzone, SOCOM, Sly Cooper.PS3- Infamous, Heavy Rain, Unchartered series, Last of Us,Beyond 2 Souls, Little Big Planet series, Resistance and more I probably forgot. Very impressive, indeed.

MS portfolio is much less impressive- Halo, Forza, Fable, Crackdown. If it wasn't for Halo's success, the 360 May have not been made.

Sony has more more/ better exclusives, but the only ones I would want to play are Unchartered, Last of Us, and God of War.

Multiplatform games cover more ground for me: Fallout/ Skyrim, annual sports releases (Madden/NCAA football, NBA 2k), military shooters (Call of Duty), etc.

Xbox has just enough exclusives to keep me interested : Forza, Halo, Fable, Gears of War, and more unnounced stuff too ( I know Sony has more too)

Fact is that Sony and Microsoft are waay to even right now with one of them having a slight edge in some departments like Sony with Gaikai and then Microsoft with its Kinect 2.0 (Which is pretty cool even though most disagree...dont hate till you try it). I think everyone is really blowing this thing out of proportion. Everyone has some type of brand loyalty, but calling someone a name bc they like a particular system is crazy. I guess more than anything, the argument is for people to have an "informed & educated" opinion. I am a true gamer so I have both systems pre-ordered bc of their advantages. We as a community have to do a better job of keeping our passion but also understanding that we are apart of a multi billion dollar industry that continues to grow. You want your voice to be heard? vote with you dollars, but dont be foolish if you think that Sony or Microsoft or anyone isnt out to make money. I know i am with a power Pc and a ps3 for most of my gaming this gen i was very satisfied with the occasional title on my 360 ( Halo and forza )
