Does Your Gamertag Have Herpes? Beware Xbox Live Enforcement United

Kotaku - I do not envy Xbox Live's enforcement moderators. They have an endless and thankless task policing the service's notoriously juvenile user base. And mind-numbing, too, if a the experience offered by "Enforcement United"—Xbox Live's new crowdsourced tattling system—is any indication.

-Mezzo-3916d ago

Hiring trolls to keep your service troll free, seems like a bad idea.

iamnsuperman3916d ago (Edited 3916d ago )

The only issue with this service (and services like it) is if trolls get on it. Proper internet trolls could cripple the service by reporting normal users. Any reporting systems needs to be robust and getting users to do it has never worked anywhere. Innocent people always get caught up in it.

A better way, for the gamertag thing, is some sort of censorship

For example is a user has a nickname Ihateblackpeople it could be censored with with letters and numbers. So it would become I7xdjb78ck340ple. The user will still see Ihateblackpeople but everyone else wont and you have to PM them to add them. Also rude words can go into a parental level system so if you don't mind seeing herpes killed you on the screen you can.

Hopefully the recording feature would need to be used to report people as well. I.e you can't just report people for being racist without evidence. I think that is what Microsoft should do and it could limit the good users from going to that dark corner for no fault of their own

HolyDuck3916d ago

This system currently only stands as a Gamertag reporting system.

People report a gametag, it then gets put onto the "Enforcement United" site and people "Vote" yes or no as to whether it is offensive, you can't add names on your own accord so members can't simply add a name and get everyone else to report it.

georgeenoob3916d ago (Edited 3916d ago )

@Mezzo

MS is trying to suppress the amount of trolls, not make it troll-free. Which is a great idea. There's so many trolls here on N4G, for example, and mods simply aren't doing enough.

And for you it seems like EVERY idea MS has is a bad idea.

YNWA963916d ago

George, seems they almost put you out of existence... 1 bubble but never seen you be rude... Fanboys disagree everything, even when it is true and logical.... You need to be like maria, start posting crap...

xHeavYx3916d ago

@ George; the irony is that you are the biggest nonsensical Xbox loving troll here.
@Gman; You don't need to be rude to be considered a troll

YNWA963916d ago

Xheavyx, everyone denies being a troll here, while accusing everyone else of it.....

Another silly move on the PR chessboard for Microsoft.

HolyDuck3916d ago

Please explain to me how it is silly?

Microsoft allowing users to clear the service of unruly, racist and often disgusting gamertags.

I use the Enforcement united service, and I think it's awesome they're allowing us to define what is rude on the network.

fattyuk3916d ago (Edited 3916d ago )

Why don't Microsoft personally check each gamer tag themselves before there registered?

As this will just be spammed with people who don't like other people and report them to Xbox thus wasting everyone's time.

I think Microsoft hires intelligent people with potentially great ideas. Unfortunately it's people like ^^^above who never learned grammar that eventually ruin every potential idea. The same people who probably keep insisting that THEIR opinion is worth something."

- lol your trying to act like grammer police with a name like that? And your punctuation is no better than mine so stop trying to act/look smart, as your entire comment looks a mess(to the grammer police - which is you)

@holyduck - meh

blackmanone3916d ago

It's a good idea, it's just the potential for abuse rises. Still doesn't make it a bad idea, it just needs to be a perfect execution... which it might not be, but we don't know that yet.

HolyDuck3916d ago

@FattyUK

You clearly don't understand how the system works.

You CANNOT abuse it.

Some random people you never meet report players on Xbox Live, their name then randomly appears on the Enforce Unite website and then players decide whether or not it's abusive or rude, you don't chose which names you see, you can't just add someone and abuse them.

I'm sure thousands of gamertags are made a day, something people don't know is offensive wont report it, multiple people viewing the gamertag will allow an unbiased more "official" reporting on whether a gamertag is offensive.

You don't understand the system, so stop commenting on it.

A sad service good luck xbox boys lol

Spoons3916d ago (Edited 3916d ago )

A pretty good thing that fanboys are once again trying to spin into a bad thing. It's like having on site moderators like any website has, even n4g.

That_Ninja_Gray_Fox3916d ago

The best way to deal with it is to stop being a sensitive crybaby. All you gotta do is mute or block the person hurting your overly sensitive little feelings while you play multiplayer endlessly. That would leave time and energy to the mods to ban the real problem the cheaters/hackers what have you.Xbox one is gonna tank because it is a gimmick filled POS. Mad?

LogicStomper3916d ago

I don't get your argument. So what i'm seeing is you're saying we should just mute and block the people we don't like so that the mods can deal with the real problems. Well yeah, we can file complaints to deal with the real problems and this news here is about getting rid of the minor problems. So I don't get what you're complaining about.

Xbox 360 Turns 18: Three Cheers to Live, Halo, and Red Rings

The Xbox 360 launched in North America 18 years ago, and is now officially old enough to buy you a drink in Europe.

darthv72154d ago

Great platform, and many of its games (not bc) still hold up well to this day. Like the PS3, I keep a 360 hooked up for those games you can't play any other way.

isarai154d ago

The last gasp of greatness from XBox, you are missed, except the RROD that was lame, but amazing exclusives until the Kinect dropped.

TheBrainZ154d ago

So many brilliant games. I still have one stored somewhere.

LG_Fox_Brazil154d ago

I really enjoyed my X360, some great exclusives on it. Used to play the shit out ot Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey, two masterpieces

I remember when Live turned five and they had special edition controllers made and everything. Kind of wished they would do that again for the 20th.

Orchard525d ago

Happy Birthday. OG XBL (and later 360 XBL) really revolutionized online gaming on console.

Crows90525d ago

Never understood the obsession with live...but I was gaming online on PC so not sure too much of what live did that the PlayStation didn't.

Profchaos525d ago

I had a PS2 and it's online experience was fine but it didn't have the same level of polish voice chat never worked for me but I was trying to play from Australia where not many people played PS2 online to the point where many devs simply dropped the online mode from the pal version.
That's not all PS2 games mind you there were plenty that worked perfectly but it was more on the dev and not the platform

During that era I also played a fairly large amount on online PC games and they were undoubtedly better than both systems. PS2 from functionality and Xbox because it was free

Playing my friends original Xbox it was a really polished experience it felt robust yet simple things just worked there was zero config.

Crows90525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

Yeah but the time ps3 came the experience was the same on both based on what I played...not too much online though to be honest. But I do think that the xbox did help bring online into the console space a lot. As well as PC games to consoles.

Profchaos525d ago (Edited 525d ago )

Today would of been the perfect day to drop halo 2 the original bc version free on gwg.... If only
