cryengine 3 has better prospects

But teh Unrealz Engine... lol!

Fireseed3919d ago

Idc whether Frostbite and CryEngine can pump out better graphics. Unreal is INFINITELY more friendly to work with and get assets in.

RegorL3918d ago

I guess you work for EA then?

Frostbite is in EA only, that it was bad to work with was one of their reasons for a major rewrite to FB2.

Every report I heard (inluding Swedish) says that it is easy to work with...

Why will DICE do Mirrors Edge 2 with Frostbite and not Unreal? (Don't say licensing cost, the are almost irrelevant for AAA games)

Fireseed3918d ago

Ok so first, I personally do not work at EA however I do have a buddy (for however much that's worth on the internet) who is a modeler on Command & Conquer, and from what I've played around with Frostbite it most assuredly is not by any means bad, I actually like some aspects of it better than UDK. So I guess the word "INFINETLY" was a bit of an overstatement cause I had just finished some particle effects pretty easily in UDK. Kinda that post work hell-yeah moment. My big gripe about Frostbite is how much radically different controls than Maya, which IMO is a bad thing because almost all major programs use Mayas control scheme and it's a bit weird to get used to anything different. It's like playing an FPS where the A button shoots, and SELECT reloads. Again not bad, just a bit unnatural at first.

And why will DICE use it for Mirrors Edge 2? Well idk... maybe cause they built the damn engine?!?! Idc how weird an engine is to make stuff for, having the ability to walk down the hall and ask for root engine changes to solve a problem has got to be the greatest thing EVER.

CryEngine 3 and Frostbite 3 oh boy that's a lot of eye candy! Both are FANTASTIC Engines and will WOW us for years to come. Starcitizen CryEngine 3 will blow minds and Command and Conquer on the Frosbite 3 will take destruction to new heights.

but right now I'll take Real Virtuality 4! Bells, Whistles, Candy, Ballistics, real world physics, and HUGE game worlds with super High detail.

When you can clearly see the Thread inside button holes well then you know you got Hi Res Detail

pabadamus13919d ago

Unreal engine 4 and the infiltrator demo look pretty as well.

Mr-SellJack3919d ago

meh who cares about engines it's the devs effort that matter plus these engines get blown out of the water by many other engines especially the japanese engines, fox engine, panta rhei, and luminous engine

fabiani3918d ago

yea engines arent a big deal lol i make lvls n charachters n it really depends on how good ur pictures r for textures n poly usage.engines r just a space n do lighting.

Here are the first screenshots from DICE's Frostbite 3 Engine using real-time ray tracing

At GDC 2018, DICE showcased its Frostbite 3 Engine running real-time ray tracing via NVIDIA’s RTX and the Microsoft DirectX Raytracing API. And while they are not looking as impressive as Epic’s Star Wars demo, they may give us an idea of what we can expect from the first PC games that will be using it.

Click the credit url. You can definitely see a difference between the images. And if this is what it looks like with full destruction I'll be happy.

Let’s see em add microtransactions in the future to have raytraycing on games.... no really... I can’t really be happy about their tech and their current future of games if they keep making games that pretty much rob the gamer...you can thank EA for that....

Bobafret2209d ago

Are these just bad screen shots? Because I am not impressed.

MecheSlays2209d ago

me either. looked great on ue4 they all have this hazy look though

RSKnight2209d ago

I've learned to do 3D renders with ray tracing software like Arnold, Renderman, and the now discontinued mental ray, and I'm pretty sure that these images shown from Frostbite Engine are not made with ray tracing. This article is either fake news, or they got the wrong screenshots to show.

The main use for this is to create a quick preview of final result for the designer!

Game Engine Behind Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield Now VR Capable

Road to VR – It’s been confirmed that the soon to launch 'Star Wars Battlefront X-Wing VR Mission' on PlayStation VR is powered by DICE’s coveted Frostbite Engine, a strong hint that more AAA VR development is on the way from the company.

By gamers current definition, AAA means: money spent(growing up, AAA meant top quality game no matter the price to make it). Anyway..

To assume EA spent millions on VR mission because they spent money buying Dice and invested in the frostbite engine is false. Criterion may have only spent 10 million and not 100 million like GTA to make the VR add on. No one knows. But I doubt EA would authorize that much. There aren't enough headsets on the market to profit off of expensive development yet. The mission should look good, but don't expect battlefront graphics in VR. Maybe on Pro or other VR headsets after the exclusivity ends.

Second, most 3D engines are VR capable with tweaks. Cry engine, unity, unreal, Sony's proprietary software, Activision's, etc. Spending tons of money making an engine doesn't mean they spend that much making a game. Or in this case, mission. But yes, it does mean more possible games in the future from frostbite because it supports VR.

Kornholic2699d ago

AAA is strictly indicative of budget and production value. Not quality. Always has been.

ApocalypseShadow2699d ago (Edited 2699d ago )

Actually it hasn't. Unless you have been playing since pong and reading magazines like Game fan, Gamer's Republic, when EGM first started, etc.then no. AAA meant quality.

Now gamers assume money spent. It's like saying AAA auto insurance means "budget and production value". It doesn't. It means sign of quality like 5 star restaurant. But in gaming, it was changed to mean how much a developer spends. So now I go with that.

But good try. I wasn't changing its new meaning, I was saying that just because Dice has an expensive engine doesn't mean expensive made games are going to be produced anytime soon.

He's reaching and coming to conclusions based on the engine being vr capable.

Fearmonkey2699d ago

Kind of reaching a bit here. It's great that Frostbyte can do VR but thats no indication of a major push in that direction. I would love a Dragon Age VR experience and a Battlefield VR game as well, but we shall see. A dragon age based Dungeon crawler in VR would be amazing, based in the dwarven tunnels the darkspawn use.

JackBNimble2699d ago (Edited 2699d ago )

Is it realy that much of a reach considering they are reieasing VR dlc ?
It only has to support VR ,that doesn't mean it has to be exclusive only to VR.

BABY-JEDI2699d ago

Hopefully we will get a relatively lengthy experience with good replayability. COD VR was really good. Visually sharper than Eve Valkery but a little to short (would really want full game).
Off topic, Bound in VR just has too many camera placing issues & game mechanics are really poor. This is first PSVR title to really fail. Battlezone on the other hand is a fantastic strategic arcade shooter but really tough (in a good way) in SP 😉
