Devil May Cry 4 runs at 640p on Xbox 360/PS3

Game Reviews Blog obtain a copy of the CAPCOM Press Release on Europe about DMC4:

CAPCOM Europe from the official statement will be Devil May Cry 4 issued on February 8. XBOX360/PC/PS3 three-oriented platform.

PC version will supports DX9 and DX10 versions.The PC version support higher resolution (In order to maintain stability in the game at 60FPS, XBOX360, PS3 supports only 1024 * 640 resolution).

More sophisticated textures and models. DX10 will support more graphics technology and advanced physics, will bring greater is the visual impact. At the same time, played on the new multi-core processors perfect, if you have the updated platform, you will be good experience.

I think i am gonna buy only the ps3 exclusive games. Multiplats dont take advantage of ps3's hardware and are normally rushed out ports of the x360 version

If there were a problem with the framerate then THAT would be an issue. Since DMC has some frame dependant moves, hitches would make the game broken. i think the new one has been confirmed to run at 720p and 60fps. But could suprise us again and run at 640p. Ninja gaiden 2 is one of the few xbox titles am looking forward too. From a gameplay perspective i could care less about the games resolution as long as it looks good but from a technical standpoint if the 360 jst keeps coughing up 640p resolution it definetly does make them the weaker system. in fact less than standard resoltion has been something to expect from most 360 games exclusive and multiplat

i played the demo and it looked uber sweet, if i didn't read this i wouldn't have known it was less than 720p. it surely isn't Uncharted crisp but it still looks amazing and PLAYS amazingly.

How about blaming M$ and Capcom for making this game Multiplaform? you know this game would run at 720p, hell even at 1080p if it was PS3 exclusive, but since they made it multiplatform, they had to make the game to run for the lowest common denominator, which was the xbox 360, although it was built on PS3 hardware first. Capcom wanted this game to run equal to both system, thus degrading the PS3 version for no reason. please dont give me that BS (ex. OH THE GAME IS TOO POWERFUL TO RUN ON PS3,) look at KZ2 and Uncharted confirmed to be running at 720p, oh wait, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma which is basically the same Hack and slash game that DMC is, running at 60fps at 1080p running exclusively at PS3 hardware , nuff said.

even the colour looked so vibrant.

Now not only does it look washed out it seems to lack,textures,cloour and speed.

Sorry guys, but a decent frame rate, some nice effects, and even a little anti-aliasing go a much longer way that brute force resolution. Drop your dreams of 1080p, it's just a number, and 99.9% of you would NEVER KNOW that every game you play doesn't fill the full specification if the developers or publishers didn't release the facts.

You all complain about it being gimped, then how about you track down this 1080p version that obviously exists because of the Microsoft conspiracy that stops Sony games from being good. If you ran the game in 1080p the visual effects and frame rate would suffer, and in games like DMC4 a CONSISTENTLY HIGH frame rate is a REQUIREMENT. You will NEVER notices the drop in resolution, but you will ALWAYS see a frame rate drop.

I don't even have to get into how 90% of 1080p HDTV owners wasted money on a resolution they'll never notices because of things like view distance. Please people, spend more time choosing the display that's right for you, not the display that has the highest number and is officially endorsed by companies like Sony that want to sell you these TVs at a premium.

I've played thru it and reviewed it. I wouldn't buy this thing for 60 bucks, that's for sure. The biggest kick about it... it screams balls out last gen gameplay. Why can't the xbox 360 handle more? Oh, that's why... because it lacks a unified HDD and HDMI ports on every console sold to its user base.

60 fps is such an overrated specification. For one thing, it doesn't even LOOK good, which is the most important thing. Aesthetically, 30 fps not only allows for greater detail and more effects in-game, but it LOOKS better than 60 fps (in the same way 24p movies look better than 30p video footage). Higher fps is not better, period.

I would NEVER sacrifice resolution for an unecessary increase in framerate. Would you rather watch 1080p Blu-Ray at 24 fps, or regular 480p DVDs at 60 fps? Exactly.

Both versions run great and are of the same performance level, so just play the one you like! For me, it will be the PS3 version because the controller just feels so much more natural to me seeing as how I have been playing the series since the first game's inception on the PS2. I really don't see how 640p should degrade the way the game PLAYS, but then again we "gamers" don't play games for fun anymore, do we? The only reason I had a problem with Halo 3 is not because it was a 640p game, but because it just was not the leap in gameplay that the hype machine was supposedly making it out to be. And CoD 4's singleplayer was just short as hell, but it had way better multiplayer than Halo 3.

Just play the version on the system you prefer the most and stop worrying!

Its doesnt matter if ps3 has more HD games, what matters is the quality of textures used. 360 games use more bump mapped and colorful textures than any of ps3 games. I dont care if i get 1080i or 720p on my 50" HDTV as long as i dont get bland last gen textures. For that i can go and buy another ps. I was amazed at quality of 360 graphics when i first played PDZ 2 years back. Look at kameo as well, it still has better graphics than drake's flat lifeless textures.

I'm sure all consoles can do 120fps in 1080p with pacman and pong, but with normal mapping, 2xAA etc dont expect games to run 1080p even with ur mighty cell.

I downloaded both demo's for the 360 and the PS3. Ran them both at the same time and switched from one input to the other. That way I see exactly what the difference is. So no amount of online comparisons can tell me which is better, I'm seeing it with my OWN eyes.

I have friends that have the XBOX 360 and was thinking of buying one to play games online with them when I get a chance. I have a PS3, 1080p Samsung LCD. Is it true that the XBOX is NOT capable of running 1080p 60fps graphics heavy games? Why? I don't know much about the tech side of what's under the hood of both consoles. yes, Capcom promised 1080p 60fps, or whatever, but you know what, measures need to be taken to get the game to perform at it's best. from what i've played (i played the PS3 *AND the 360 demo of DMC4, just to compare them myself), the gameplay is fast and frenetic like DMC is known for, and while i don't care for the "Lost Planet" graphic engine used in all Capcom games as of late, this just isn't a big deal for me.

the game is still the fun, whether at 1080p, 720p, or 640p, so stop your whining. there are *PLENTY of titles coming out this year that will run at 1080p 60fps, or 720p 30/60fps for you guys to get your "true HD" fix.

Clearly games are made for the smallest segment of the gaming population and game companies should have no interest in making their games as widely available to as many people as possible. What you call "lowest common denominator" is more affectionately called "most likely to produce a big return on investment".

Sorry, but most game companies are not going to go for that tiny % of the gaming population that lives on the bleeding edge of technology and has an extremely nice HD set with fantastic speakers. To be honest I was greatly disappointed by the graphics in DMC 4, judging from the PS3 demo. Poor texturing and low polygon count. It felt like a polished PS2 game. I suppose this is what happens when greedy executives won't allow a game to stay on one platform and perfect it to a given piece of hardware. This applies for PC, 360 and PS3 titles. Each platform has it's own unique set of advantages, and trying to make all three versions great, is as impossible as it is for a call-girl to give three good handjobs simultaneously.

I dont like that i paid 400 for a 360 and its not in 1080 but in reality does it make a massive difference , not to me. if they are running good and look nice in 600 or 720 than thats fine.The only game that I played for on the ps3 that really wowed me was uncharted but then when you play halo single player coupled with the Multiplayer its a no contest halo wins.
Like I said in my other post these systems aren't ready for these high resolutions and the ps3 having the cell it should be light years ahead of the 360 in graphics or frame rate or resolution but in real world results they basically are equal with both platforms having its pros and cons.I have had a ps3 for about 5 months and like it but only uncharted had put my ps3 to use and its a great game ( visually and its fun factor ) but I'm still not convinced the ps3 is everything it was made out to be.
Next gen gaming will happen in a few years, I'm just happy my launch 360 is still running perfectly fine "knock on wood" and that my ps3 is finally getting some use.

In the end nintendo wins "somehow" and the world is a better place

I am in it for the gameplay. The ones in it just for the graphics are missing out on so many good titles just because they don't want something that runs below 1080p on their screens.

It didnt matter last gen so why is it mattering this gen? Are some feeling cheated for what they spent?

No PS3 runs at that resolution it's pure nonsense.
Originally this was an exclusive and was ported to the 360.
PS3 version is running at 1080P and at 60FPS.
Maybe on the 360 they'll have problems but not on a PS3.

Who cares about the resolution. It's upscaled anyway. I played the demo on my 360 (on a Samsung 40" 1080P), and I didn't notice any jaggies. It looked absolutely stunning.

honestly if you were playing would you have noticed? the fact that it runs at a 640 res doesnt change the gameplay in the least, so why would you let something like this stop you from buying it? Dont mean to sound offensive but whoever chooses not to get this game because of the 640 resolution, is a retard
