5 Games That Need to be Made Into a Movie

GameDynamo - "I think every gamer has experienced it once. Where you're playing a game, and you get this feeling and think, "they should definitely make this into a movie or something." I've experienced it a few times and these are primarily the games I've played that gave me that exact feeling."

I don't know if I really agree with any of these except for Halo and the honorable mention Metal Gear, which I thought was already being made? Perhaps it was cancelled again?

MWH3920d ago (Edited 3920d ago )

why list 5 when you can list 10? the list is lacking at best.

McScroggz3920d ago

Even though I quite enjoy FFVIII, I think it's a bad choice for a movie. The cast was pretty weak, the "twist" both obvious and kind of dumb and the overarching story that was just ok. Don't get me wrong, most video game stories can be torn apart. But FFVIII doesn't have anything special going for it, especially Squall. Squall is honestly a pretty terrible protagonist that kind of gets a pass because he's somewhat of a badass.

Just my thoughts.

xXBlondieVanHarlowXx3920d ago

I disagree. I thought Squall was an excellent main characters. He underwent a transformation during the game and had a pretty big influence on it as well. Which is what main characters are supposed to do (not just follow people around for the thrill of it like Vaan in FFXII). It didn't matter that Squall was a jacka$$ at first. At least he had a personality, and he wasn't boring. Just my thoughts ^_^ But movie material?? eh idk.

Better list. In no specific order.

God of War
Uncharted
InFAMOUS
The Last of Us
Dead Space
Resistance
and maybe Metal Gear.

McScroggz3920d ago

The closest type of character to Squall I've seen in a movie was Ryan Gosling's character from Drive. In both the main character had very little dialogue (though Squall's silence was at times frustratingly beyond reserved) and both developed a romantic connection with a woman already involved to some degree with another man.

It would take too long for me to try and quantify the difference, and quite frankly I don't know that I could even do an adequate job. The best way I could sum it up is I never really understood why Rinoa developed feelings for Squall nor did I like how Squall just sort of latched onto her. Maybe my memory betrays me, but it always just felt forced.

As far as character growth, that can be overrated. Well, anything can be overrated honestly. In my opinion he wasn't a well developed character to begin with, and the fact that he opened up some towards the end and stopped doubting himself didn't turn him into a great character anyways. There are definitely cool characteristics like the gunblade, leather jacket and dark hair. But all these things are superficial.

Anyways, I respect your opinion. And I really did enjoy FFVIII. As far as Vaan goes, Balthier joked about being the main character enough that I pretended Vaan didn't exist and that Balthier WAS the protagonist :D

MWH3919d ago

I disagree on your disagree, FFVIII was a mediocre game at best. and this is coming from someone who milked it with around 200 hours of gameplay, give or take, including Chocobo World.

Wni03920d ago

There's only a few games that would make successful movies. Why? Most videogames have objectively bad stories - or they have so few plot points that are instead filled with shooting/fighting/puzzles that they wouldn't translate to film.

And the ones that do... would need to have really good directors to fit them.

BioShock: Paul Thomas Anderson, (There Will Be Blood, The Master.) This ones a home run. In fact watching those two movies you will find very similar themes to BioShock. This one is the only chance videogames have of making a not just good, but a GREAT film. Do this Hollywood.

Also...

The Last of Us: Sorry, but there already is a film called The Road. Its not as good as TLoU could be, but its too similar to justify making a movie in the near future.

MWH3919d ago

if TLoU ends like The Road then you just ruined my game.

mcr6196193916d ago

If any FF will be made to movie, it should be FFX, or FFIX..

FFVIII is good, but i dont think squall will be a good lead as he was way too introvert in the beginning

It's A Crime That There's No Sleeping Dogs 2 Yet

Huzaifah from eXputer: "Sleeping Dogs from the early 2010s is one of the best open-world games out there but in dire need of a resurgence."

LG_Fox_Brazil9d ago

I agree, I consider the first one a cult classic already

isarai9d ago

You say "yet" as if it's even possible anymore. United Front Games is gone, along with anyone that made this game what it is

CrimsonWing698d ago

That’s what happens when games sell poorly. And I’ve seen people wonder why people cry when a game sells badly… this is your answer.

solideagle8d ago

Majority of the time it's true but if a company/publisher is big (in terms of money), they can take a hit or 2. e.g. I am not worried about Rebirth sales as Square will make Remake 3 anyway but if FF 17 doesn't sell then Square might need to look for alternative. <-- my humble opinion

Abnor_Mal8d ago

Doesn’t Microsoft own the IP now since they acquired Activision?

DaReapa8d ago

No. Square Enix owns the IP.

Abnor_Mal8d ago

Oh okay, Activision owned True Crime, but when that didn’t sell as intended it was canceled. Six months later Square Enix bought the rights and changed the title to Sleeping Dogs.*

*As per Wikipedia

boing18d ago (Edited 8d ago )

Sleeping Dogs was a sleeper hit back then. It was fantastic. It actually still is. Would love a sequel to this, or at least a revive of True Crime series.

10 PS1 Games That Actually Need A Remake

With hundreds of games, some of which are considered to be classics that hold up to this day, you’ve got the pick of the litter when it comes to choosing a potential remake

^This. THIS!
Stop remaking PS4 games!
Remake PS1 and PS2 games à la FF7R, RE1, Mafia, Half Life style ....
Make Legend of Dragoon, Legacy of Kain etc Remakes happen

darthv7220d ago

Legend of Dragoon... WTH is Sony doing just letting this one squander?

-Foxtrot20d ago

I wonder if their mindset is like “meh we have Final Fantasy what’s the point of our own JRPG”

FinalFantasyFanatic19d ago

@-Foxtrot,
Square-Enix had a long period there where it seems they didn't know what to do with Final Fantasy, I think that time period would have been a good time to revisit their classics and remake them. Now it seems they're going full steam ahead with the franchise, so they have less reason to revisit those older games. I wouldn't mind if they subcontracted them out to other developers, that and I don't trust SE to remake their older games.

Cacabunga19d ago

Simply because i do not think it will succeed.. maybe a bad example but e we got Medievil remake after many years fans have beg asking... result is It flopped hard. Remaking a JRPG is so risky. Only a bunch of hardcore gamers who played the original would buy it. If Sony put even more budget into it then it’s even more risky.

As i suggested before, i think they should start remaking like square did with Star Ocean. Or something similar to Octopath Traveller. Build up some hype and try on higher scale later on..

Terry_B20d ago

Let me tell you about PS1 games that should get a remake actually.

Jumping Flash (As a VR game)
Ridge Racer 1-4 as Ridge Racers 3..just like the pretty perfect PSP RR1.-2 games but with even more content
Xenogears
Cardinal Sin which was full of nice ideas for its time but was plagued by technical limitations
Bushido Blade ^^ just like CS
Bust A Groove.
WWF Attitude. With the same roster, same voices,Only slightly updated gameplay but current gen graphics
Dynasty Warriors..yes the fighting game that was similar to Tekken 2 while it had weapons. As nice as the DW games are..its a shame they never released a new fighting game

And while I am at it.

Thrill Kill ...hell yes.

KyRo20d ago

Ah Thrill Kill, the game that was banned/cancelled but everyone had played 😂 what a throwback!

darthv7220d ago

jumping Flash would make a great VR game. Im actually quite surprised nobody has thought to do that one... even on the indie side for something like the meta quest.

GhostMirror20d ago

Big yes to Jumping Flash! and Ridge Racer revivals. Bushido Blade was cool as well; it was pretty deep and so much different from other fighting games at the time. Einhander was another good non-RPG from Square, which was kind of rare for them in that era.

Didn’t Thrill Kill eventually get re-skinned and released with a Wu-Tang Clan license? 😂

FinalFantasyFanatic19d ago

I miss Ridge Racer so much, give me a new game or at least a collection of the older games! I had a blast playing Ridge Racer PSP on my PS4 a few months back.

I cannot understand the current business practice of remaking games from the previous generation, especially when they are very much playable today and still hold up well, it's even worse when people are willing buying them again. The PS1 generation is so ripe for remakes, I know more than a few people who would clamour for a Xenogears remake, or almost any game from that list.

Ravenkiss20d ago

and Valkyrie Profile Lenneth. They did Star Ocean 1 & 2 R already, VPL should get the same treatment.

Redgrave19d ago

I assume this to mean that you aren't considering the PSP port to be the remake in this statement? Like a remake of that one?

FinalFantasyFanatic19d ago

That version is quite old though, that was 18 years ago, so doing a remake in the vain of Star Ocean might be worth it (I did not think the PSP was that old until I looked it up).

Knightofelemia20d ago

I'd be down for FF8, and Xenogears. But I would also be down for Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross. And I wish Namco would get off their ass and remake or remaster the Xenosaga trilogy.

FinalFantasyFanatic19d ago

There's been talk of a Xenosaga trilogy on the proviso that there was enough demand, I hope that actually happens one day.

Why does From Software not do ANYTHING with this franchise... It's so sad... Can't they at least outsource it to someone to try a revival?
