Ryse: Son of Rome Fact Sheet Revealed

It’s no secret that the forthcoming Ryse: Son of Rome has altered drastically since we first saw it. Originally unveiled as an Xbox 360 title set to be exclusive to the Kinect full-body motion control device, last month’s Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) revealed an altogether different proposition. Clarifying the situation is a brand new fact sheet from the videogame’s publisher, Microsoft Studios.

This is what I hope they succesfully deliver :

"Relive the ruthless history of ancient Rome as you engage in raw close-quarters combat against the barbarian horde, utilizing both sword and shield as weapons to attack, counter, block and pull off brutal executions."

"Cooperative gladiatorial combat in the Coliseum"

"The cooperative multiplayer experience in “Ryse: Son of Rome” plunges you into the brutal world of gladiatorial combat, where you enter the Coliseum to fight side-by-side with your friends against an ever-changing array of enemies, to the roar of thousands of spectators."

-Crytek is doing some amazing things behind the scenes and working hard to really put together an impressive game...can't wait to see what they have at Gamescom.

mcgrottys3913d ago

If they have naval battles in the Colosseum, I would be so happy. And naval battles were what the colosseum was sometimes used for.

NeoTribe3909d ago

Wishful thinking. So what's your excuse gonna be when this game flops and gets horrid reviews?

iamnsuperman3914d ago

Right all you have to do now is show me that changes have been made since your E3 demo because that was one awful yet graphically good demo. At the moment i don't trust the "brutally intense combat" description

lemondish3914d ago

I want to see more environments. The characters looked spectacular, but the environment was really dull a grey. I think they might have their hands tied when it comes to art direction though since they're keeping with this realistic take on Roman history.

WeAreLegion3914d ago

"Cooperative gladiatorial combat in the Coliseum"

That part sounds pretty fun. I hope it's done well. It would be cool if you could spectate as someone IN the Coliseum and decide what animals/people to send out to fight your friends.

Jughead34163914d ago

Graphically, this game looked pretty good. But the gameplay doesn't look like a system seller

Fireseed3914d ago

>"Gameplay doesn't look like a system seller"
>Gameplay...doesn't look
>play... look
>look

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that saying "Gameplay doesn't look" like something, carries about as much merit as saying "That song doesn't look all that great."

HammadTheBeast3914d ago

I think it's because all we've seen is game play.... most people haven't actually played it, so he couldn't say "feels" like.

NeoTribe3909d ago

Your logic is utterly rediculous. You can't see music... you CAN see gameplay... why do you think people WATCH gameplay trailers... its not to listen to it.

Maldread3914d ago (Edited 3914d ago )

Hehe quite how technical you got Fireseed ;)

I think it`s okey to say that a video games dosn`t look like a system seller because we can see it being played. Hence the video game name.

Music is a lot harder to see of course. If it`s not a Juststine Blieber music video, and in that case it sucks hehe ;)

ma1asiah3914d ago (Edited 3914d ago )

The gameplay demo that has been shown at E3, ComicCon and PAX Australia is an alpha version and is not a TRUE representation of the final build of the game.

This is what a developer had to say about Ryse at ComicCon in respect of the gameplay demo:

"A lot of the design elements and balancing weren’t even in there yet."

"We have to shrink things down. Get very straight forward, very easy, to get people into it."

"When you enter into an execution state, we are going to remove the button prompts that you saw in this version. And they are going to be replaced with visual and audio prompts that people are going to have to learn over time. We have like a hundred executions in the game."

http://www.siliconera.com/2...

This to me was a no brainer had to have it, so its brought and paid for along with my X1 and copy of DR3

DonFreezer3914d ago

Why are you disagreeing? Have seen anyone bashing Driveclub because it was 35% complete?

ThisIsSolidSnake3913d ago

i'm sorry but i cant stop laughing right now.

titletownrelo3914d ago

would love the game if its gameplay/combat wasnt so dependent on QTE. Takes "easy mode" to the next level. :P

MarkusMcNugen3914d ago

You must hate the God of War games then...

IRetrouk3914d ago

I think you mean he must hate god of wars boss fights.

MarkusMcNugen3913d ago

No... I mean the God of War games. QTEs are used for non-boss characters too. The minotaurs in at least the first game, the gorgons, the sirens... you dont have to use the QTEs for some of them but they are definitely there. They are used all over the space in God of War.

IRetrouk3913d ago

I do actually agree with you there are qtes in god of war but not to the extent of every encounter with an enemy, its just the way you worded it, made it seem like there is a qte every 5 seconds lol.

NeoTribe3909d ago

Marcus, god of war does it correctly. You mainly do a qte to finish a boss or finish a decently powerful foe. You have to first beat the living crap out of them. With ryse there's a qte after hitting a guy 2x. If gow was like that I would not play it. Gow actually takes skill and button mastery if you wanna compete in higher difficulties.

Ryse: Son of Rome Deserves a Second Shot

Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.

It was a great game, it had issues but it can only go up from here.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

It was just ok. Looked really good for an Xbox game though

Snookies12616d ago

"for an Xbox game"

Way to subtly throw shade there. It looked amazing compared to any game at the time it was released.

Never played it myself though, wasn't really interested in it personally. Plus it came at a time when I didn't own an Xbox console. But it was at least different than the usual copy/paste games we get. So I hope it gets another chance sometime soon.

Crows90616d ago

It was a crytek game though

1nsomniac616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

It was a stunning game on all basis. One of the standout games for Xbox as a whole. I ended up buying on pc as well… and yes nothing looked better than it in PC at the time either. Nothing just ok about it, definitely needs a sequel.

fr0sty616d ago

@snookies12, don't pretend like the Xbox One didn't struggle with being gimpled by its tiny pool of ESRAM as a frame buffer. It was significantly weaker than the PS4.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

Metacritic 60, user score 6.4. I'm not alone in putting it into the "ok" category...

VenomCarnage89615d ago

@snookies
Haven't played it but at least you know enough to defend Xbox over it. The game did look good, for an Xbox game. That's not some "subtle shade," it's full on reality.
I remember it being nearly the only graphically decent game on the Xbone for like the first two years after launch, and graphics were that games strength

CrimsonWing69616d ago

I really enjoyed it. Bought it at launch even.

ManMarmalade616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

The qte's were disappointing though. God of war was doing it back in the ps2 days. As gorgeous as the game was, the gameplay needed to be updated.

annoyedgamer616d ago

I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.

gamer7804616d ago

It would have to be funded by MS, I really liked Ryse sure it got repetitive but the setting visuals and story were good

moriarty1889616d ago

MS should have funded a sequel to Ryse and Sunset OD. Two good franchises they definitely needed last gen.

annoyedgamer616d ago

MS is too busy trying to become the next EA, Ryse wont be on their list of titles to finance unless it gets a hipster makeover with lootboxes.

darthv72616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.

Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.

babadivad616d ago

The game is automatically boosted on Series X

darthv72616d ago

sorry... but it's not. It still runs at the same fps the XBO did.

lelo2play616d ago

Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.

Crows90616d ago

It only needed more enemy variety and few more movesets or weapons to use. That would have made the experience tons better.

MadLad616d ago

It was a good game.
Only time I saw quick time events actually make me feel engaged.

This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?

littletad622d ago

Absolutely nothing in this comment makes sense. At all.

anast621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

How does it not make sense? O thy god of reason, shine some evidence upon us. Ryse of Rome, ESO,and AC: Origins are all live service games, between them you can get 275 points. Liveservice games are made to keep people spending. Therefore, Gamepass is a live service and the points are for playing live service games.

It is not my problem that this does not make sense to you, it is absolutely your problem. I mean it is all your problem.

Julion0715621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

Hate Xbox but comments in every Xbox article 😂 without making sense smh

anast621d ago

Bring the evidence and then your emoji might make sense.
