Jak and Daxter Collection Vita Review-IGN

The Jak and Daxter series stands as a testament to the awesome games of the PlayStation 2 generation, and also serves as the turning point when we really started to recognize Naughty Dog as a top-tier developer.

Kingthrash3603918d ago

I rarely agree with ign on vota reviews....alot of sins were committed.
but sadly this rating is right. im playing it right now and I had to get used to the choppyness and I dont see any reason to call it hd.
its still jak and dax its just a lazy port for sure. you get three games and trophies flow in like hot wings on Sundays and when you get used to the choppyness you will enjoy it.

tanookisuit3918d ago

Is the choppiness persistent throughout, or just in "heavy-use" areas?

I ask b/c I feel like picking up a copy soon.

Soldierone3918d ago

Even if it is only heavy use areas, that will suck for 2 and 3. Especially with all the races through the city.

Kingthrash3603918d ago

honesty I played 1 first and that was choppy from the start. buy now im on two and its not as bad. in fact I barley seen any bad moments of rate loss....part one though suffered most. like I said though when you get used to it its still a great game.

SonyPS43918d ago

Choppiness is very bad on the first game but that isn't even the only problem when you also have terrible, imprecise controls to boot.

Do yourself and your wallet a favor, stick to the PS3 version. Wait for a potential PS+ release or a huge discount.

dodo1013918d ago

Ive done the city race on vita man it was hard with the choppy framerate !

PopRocks3593918d ago

When the PS3's higher quality version is available and probably cheaper, why bother? This version was not even polished enough to call it a suitable port, let alone HD.

This release wasn't fair to Sony fans or the Vita system.

Kingthrash3603918d ago

also true. but jak and dax on the go....still good.

SonyPS43918d ago

Jak on the go (or any game for that matter) is only good when it works well. This portable remaster, sadly, isn't a good example of a working game.

SpiralTear3918d ago

Man, three of the best PS2 games of all time together on a handheld should've been a foolproof success. Alas...

Y_51503918d ago

I'll buy this real cheap on day. But till then I have the PS3 version. :)

Kevlar0093918d ago

Why did the Vita get such a cruddy port of one of the most reverred Sony franchises? The quality control was just dismal

MadLad3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

Low effort cash grab?

I'll be honest. While I don't really have anything against the company, and they have found their way into my graces these last couple of years, I've hated the way, and this is how I see it, that they sort of bleed their fans.
They remove backwards compatibility and then serve up "HD" re-releases of pretty much any quality game they had on offer last gen.

This here. This is what I would consider them triple-dipping, considering it seems like a lot of people here have, in fact, purchased the re-releases on the Playstation. Those are the fans, and they will buy whatever Sony offers them.
They promise a quality port to a system that, at the moment, only true Sony fans own (for the most part), and then don't even deliver a quality product.

I don't like that.

tubers3918d ago

I seriously hope that the upcoming GoW VITA ports are not close to these piss poor quality ports specially that Ratchet and Clunk VITA.

Yodagamer3918d ago (Edited 3918d ago )

I really don't know how it could look worst than the ps2 versions. What is with sony when it comes to vita, it produces great games at times for it then we get absolute oversights like this and resistance. Here's hoping that the gow collection is better on vita.

Naughty Dog Should Remake Jak and Daxter, and Here's Why

Let's take it back to the old school.

_SilverHawk_593d ago (Edited 593d ago )

They would never do that because they are known for a certain quality to their games which requires a lot of work. Sony would have to charge full price for the game and a lot of poor people will cry about the price.

I've played jak and Daxter recently and I can tell the games were amazing in there time. Sony would want a high quality release to attract old fans and new fans but I don't see that happening at all.

CaptainHenry916593d ago

Sony likes to rely on remakes now. So it's possible

CrimsonWing69593d ago

Wait, all they make now are remakes?

_SilverHawk_593d ago (Edited 593d ago )

https://i.postimg.cc/66jwqF...

You need to understand that a lot of people crying about playstation pledged allegiance to some other gaming company. Most of them only own a gaming system or two and it's quite evident which gaming console has been steadily releasing high quality games regularly for a while which has been the case for a few generations

SonyStyled593d ago (Edited 593d ago )

It’s my favorite franchise, and the reason I moved from Nintendo to PlayStation 20yrs ago. I would love to see a successor with the same crude humor, alcohol drinking, tobacco smoking, and sexual humor.
To replicate that atmosphere could upset a crowd today since platformers largely target children now.
Is there another platformer today that’s dark, gritty, and characters committing suicide (Krew)?
For platformers now it’s SpongeBob, Astrobot, and Ratchet…

neutralgamer1992593d ago

ND won't remake it but some other studio could do it. Especially with remakes now getting quality content/resources they maybe able to do jak and Dexter trilogy into one giant game with improvements

RaidenBlack593d ago

I doubt ND'll handle Jak & Daxter any time soon.
Instead Sony'll assign the Remake to some other studio(smaller), like team asobi or bluepoint (I know these studios are doing some other stuffs but I am just using them as examples) or even contact Sumo or Lucid.

purple101593d ago

Naughty dog should focus on new and Interesting ideas. Like they always do

goldwyncq593d ago

They've been stuck doing nothing but Uncharted and TLOU for 3 generations now.

--Onilink--593d ago

Lol at your disagrees, I love Uncharted and LoU, but its not even a subjective thing. They have quite literally only done Uncharted and LoU games for 3 generations (so far). In terms of new ideas, I wouldn’t necessarily make them to be some kind of example. There are plenty of other things in which they are industry leaders and thats perfectly fine

tay8701593d ago

well when you make masterpiece after masterpiece with those 2 with those ips, peope are going to want more of each. u might get your wish if the rumors of their next space themed ip strays crossong are true.

purple101591d ago (Edited 591d ago )

If I'm right...

Crash bandicoot ps1
Jack & daxter ps2
The last of us ps3
Uncharted ps3 & ps4 & Psp

Now it's time for something new for ps5

ClayRules2012593d ago

I’d personally love to see Bluepoint Remake Jak and Daxter, knowing their pedigree and respect to handling past remakes.

I want Naughty Dog to finish up Factions (knowing that according to Neil it’ll have a story for it’s MP, but also in some ways be it’s biggest game and most ambitious, if I’m not mistaken, someone correct me if I’m wrong! Haha.) Also, along with just gearing the team (s) I’m not sure if they’re doing 2 teams at the studio again or just one big team (minus a smaller group that worked on Part 1 for PS5) but would like to see them more focused on their next NEW iP exclusively for PS5, be it savage Starlight or something else entirely.

Either way, I’m looking forward to have my mind 🤯 lol

Profchaos593d ago

Same I'm so tired of hearing it's coming but never seeing it.

ClayRules2012593d ago

Me too. I hope if and when they show it, we’ll get a release date and or a beta maybe? I mean, we’ve waited so long for it.

ClayRules2012591d ago

Yeah, I’d be great to see them do it. I believe they’d do a really great job!

EmperorDalek593d ago

We'll get another Last of Us remake before they give Jak any thought.

Kakashi Hatake593d ago (Edited 593d ago )

The PS4 edition wasn't a remake, it was a simple remaster to give PS4 owners something to play. TLOU PS5 is the first remake they've ever done. Can't pretend that's all they do now. TLOU2 was an excellent sequel and that's rare after striking gold with the first game.

EmperorDalek593d ago

You say that like it isn't common knowledge. Yeah, it's a remaster that's still playable on PS5, therefore it isn't as necessary as something like Demon's Souls or Shadow of the Colossus. A Jak remake would have been just as welcome as those, but they instead chose to remake the one we're already able to play.

"Excellent sequel" I disagree, the story was a mess and the game was a chore to play due to the poor pacing.

ziggurcat2173d ago

yes to Resistance. Since I missed my chance on Heavenly Sword, I'd even be interested in a remaster of that.

bouzebbal2173d ago (Edited 2173d ago )

i want them to bring WipEout again.
That series is so amazing that we should have more of it.
Bring back MAG too sony.

UltraNova2173d ago

MAG 2 with a proper BR mode would do great these days. Sony is sitting on so many potential hits...

The_Jackel2173d ago

warhawk was soo much fun before mag came out

Army_of_Darkness2173d ago

I'd love a remastered trilogy of the resistance and Killzone series with enhanced visuals and framerate!

Stogz2173d ago

Absolutely, and its be nice if they included that co op mode from part 2, that was really fun.

bouzebbal2173d ago

Killzone 2 and 3 are 2 of my best ever games.
i don't think i want a remaster of these, i think we need a new episode inspired by these two.
No futuristic crap from SF..
KZ2 and 3 atmosphere was so good. SF was too shiny in comparison.

porkChop2173d ago

Resistance
The Legend of Dragoon
Syphon Filter
Socom
Twisted Metal

BlackTar1872173d ago (Edited 2173d ago )

This is a great list. I'd trade resistances for pandemonium.

Or battle arena toshiden or star gladiator

I know not all are made by Sony but great Games from ps1

notachance2173d ago

a modern Syphon Filter would be sick

G3ng4r2171d ago

Swap out legend of dragoon for seriously anything.

Godmars2902173d ago

Twisted Metal with "realistic" driving physics?

bouzebbal2173d ago

TM on PS3 was a massive flop.. people asked for it but didnt support it so no chance it will come back.
i have never been a fan of the series so i can't really judge the game cause i haven't played it on PS3.

P_Bomb2173d ago (Edited 2173d ago )

I wonder if a free-to-play Twisted Metal might be the way to go with that IP?

Tweak EatSleepPlay’s engine, slap on a Battle Royale alongside the standard MP fare, and make money the free-to-play way. Starter packs, booster packs, maps, skins, currencies, whatever. Then Sony could get another MP option out there without tacking it on to SP games.

So, keep the budget modest and expectations realistic. People might not wanna fork out $60 for car combat anymore, but they did love Rocket League. As a FTP with paid features, TM could tap into that certain demographic.

Goldby2173d ago

There's already too many BR games out or announced. We don't need more of this. We need less, alot less

FallenAngel19842173d ago

There definitely needs to be a new Ape Escape game

Also The Legend of Dragoon needs a remaster

badz1492173d ago

APE ESCAPE!!

Me and I think many others have been craving for a new entry to this series since last gen but Sony didn't do anything about it and not even now. WTF Sony? and by this I mean a full fledged campaing, not those cheap mini games collection!

gangsta_red2173d ago

I'm all for a Twisted Metal that's designed in an arena shooter type setting.

Add some actual racing modes, support it with extra tracks and vehicles over time and I think that can be Sony's next big hit.

Gazondaily2173d ago

Twisted Metal Black was the one!

gangsta_red2173d ago

Agreed, loved that game!!!
