Ryse Producer Explains How The Xbox One Game Will Be Different From The E3 Demo

Spencer played Ryse: Son of Rome and while the Xbox One title had more realistic graphics, the combat seemed to focus too much on quick time events. The hands-on demo is exactly the same as the E3 demo where you control Marius Titus and charge into battle. You can attack with Marius’ sword by pressing X, bash enemies with your shield with the Y button, block with A, and press B to grab an enemy for an execution. In the hands-on demo, time slows down when you trigger an execution and button prompts pop up. Hit those in order and Marius will brutally finish off an enemy.

There you have it folks. Take the developers word that this was thrown together just to give a quick sense of the game, or just go on pretending that this is the final code and the game will be on the shelves next week. Your choice.

Colzer013922d ago (Edited 3922d ago )

This is how Ryse supposed to be (without the QTE):
http://i.minus.com/ibkDpw1u...

And it's awesome, Crytek said the E3 build (the same build in Comic-Con) it's only the tip of the iceberg, they're gonna show the true gameplay at Gamescom

Convas3921d ago (Edited 3921d ago )

DAMN, that looks hawt. I knew there was more to this game and I'm glad I didn't buy into a lot of the unwarranted skepticism.

Then again, I've been excited for this game since it was announced as Codename: Kingdoms back in 2011 ...

HammadTheBeast3921d ago

You're such a hypocrite. Judging incomplete Knack and Drive club, yet believing that this gets a pass.

WrAiTh Sp3cTr33921d ago

I can't believe that kotaku guy said this wasn't next-gen xD

Kanzes3921d ago

There's a gonna be a multiplayer too. It's gonna be like a gladiator fight. It would be cool though, I hope I can name my own character to Spartacus later

3921d ago
Loki863921d ago

This right here is exactly what I wanted to see, no slowdown no button prompts just free flow cinematic combat. Can't wait to see the coliseum mode at gamescom.

JokesOnYou3921d ago

Colzer01 thanks that is freaking badass, the way they show off the combat the game defintely seems to be much more fluid in this vid.

What did you even just say?

Mr_Nuts3922d ago (Edited 3922d ago )

"Take the developers word that this was thrown together just to give a quick sense of the game"

Why would you, at a massive gaming conference, the biggest one of the entire year, "throw something together".

You would make sure you give off the best impression you can, an impression so good you wouldn't even think of nitpicking things like the QTE or him always defending so easily with the tap of the A button.

Sorry but you just wouldn't throw it together...especially when it's been out of action for some time now and this is the first time showing it off in a while.

rdgneoz33922d ago

"This is why had need to do a deeper explanation because what we presented on the kit for E3 was being perceived as what the final game is going to be."

Yah, generally demos or presentations are meant to give off an impression of the final game... You figure if it was announced at E3 2011, they'd do a little more than just throw something together to give off the best impression possible.

loulou3922d ago

what like drive club? man that gave the impression of greatness to everyone....

i knew your comment would be negative before i even read it mr nuts. did you get lost on your way to a mark cerny we love you blog??

theWB273922d ago

Isn't that the same thing as showing a game that's 35% done? They gave way to thinking the game looked last gen with flat, low res textures and underwhelming lighting. Car animations aren't up to par either. Driveclub is what I speak of...see it's not too hard to fathom this happening with brand new systems hitting a launch deadline.

Sketchy_Galore3922d ago

I don't think you can blame people too much for expressing skepticism about a game based on a gameplay demo rather than thinking, 'On well the actual game will probably be nothing like this'. We're not talking about a few messy textures here or there or a few frame rate hiccups. We're talking about the way the game actually plays. Of course the game isn't finished yet and we should give it a chance to develop but I think it's a far more sensible reaction to look at a gameplay demo as being a demonstration of the way a game plays than watching it and thinking, 'Wow this gameplay demo reassures me that the game will be awesome when it is released and bears no resemblance to this'.

JokesOnYou3921d ago

I agree with you Sketchy Galore of course people SHOULD make assumptions about a game based on gameplay demos. Although I was excited initially about the demo after E3, later I said I was disappointed about how scripted the combat seemed, now I'm just glad Crytek knows this and promises there is alot more to the game than that, at least from the latest info from them, a few other sites and a couple of different vids I am very much optimistic.

AngelicIceDiamond3922d ago

I was literally just reading something similar somewhere else. Crytek has used the same level demonstration/kit since E3.

I think its time for Crytek to update the game and show off a different part of Ryse.

The game that we seen was just a "slice" indeed. http://gamingbolt.com/ryse-...

AceBlazer133921d ago

Yh I'll take the word of the guys who make a profit from the sales.Sure they would say if the demo was the final product and not make last minute adjustments due to the little bit of negativity

Thepharaoh3922d ago

Yeah. After so many years of making the game it was pretty obvious that it was just a little demo stage to give us a taste of what we were to see. Hopefully they'll show more in depth game play

HammadTheBeast3921d ago

Well, it originally started as a Kinect game for 360, so the long development time can be explained.

Neoninja3922d ago

Good interview, answered a lot of questions. I really can't wait to see more gameplay of Ryse and hear a tiny bit more about the story.

PeaSFor3921d ago

"Producer Explains How The Xbox One Game Will Be Different From The E3 Demo"

oh ...it wont run on a pc with twogtx700 in sli?

turnerdc3921d ago (Edited 3921d ago )

Ryse was running on actual Xbox One hardware. Less than a minute of research would of told you that.

http://www.eurogamer.net/ar...

"Software running on genuine, visible Xbox One hardware falls in with a small first-party club, including titles like Forza Motorsport 5, Killer Instinct, Ryse and Dead Rising 3. Each plays at a promised 1080p native resolution, with the former two targeting 60fps as well, both of which show huge promise as launch titles, covering off the racing and fighting genres quite nicely."

Godz Kastro3922d ago

I have this preordered day 1. After going through my preorder list im really liking X1 exclusives.

thrust3922d ago

Yeah they do stand out more.....

MizTv3921d ago

They don't Impress me at all
But some people have higher standerds than others

golding893922d ago

you know what they are. dr3 is one of them :-p

dark-hollow3922d ago

Ryse, forza 5, killer instinct and dead rising 3.

All on launch day 1.

MizTv3919d ago

Dead rising 3 is the only game that interested in
And I sure I play it in my ps4 some day

RIPSKATEDESTROY3921d ago

MizTv: judging by the looks of your nick I would personally say you are not one of them

Pancit_Canton3922d ago

It would be Aliens Colonial all over again. The game is probably running on gaming PC. The final build for the Xbone has probably lower textures than the PC counterpart.

CrossingEden3922d ago

they had the actual xbox one build at comic con at it gave out the exact same performance -_-

CrimsonStar3921d ago

lol some people are really upset about this game being praised .

turnerdc3921d ago

Ryse was running on actual Xbox One hardware.

I'm still waiting for the sequel.

HyperMoused361d ago

Ryse was awesome, i have no idea why it wasnt recieved well and why we havnt seen another, Rome conquered so much, you could take the action anywhere, and it looked great when xbox one came out, now would be even better.

Ryse: Son of Rome Deserves a Second Shot

Ryse: Son of Rome was an Xbox One launch title that has been left to collect dust, but Crytek should set aside Crysis and give Ryse another shot.

It was a great game, it had issues but it can only go up from here.

crazyCoconuts617d ago

It was just ok. Looked really good for an Xbox game though

Snookies12616d ago

"for an Xbox game"

Way to subtly throw shade there. It looked amazing compared to any game at the time it was released.

Never played it myself though, wasn't really interested in it personally. Plus it came at a time when I didn't own an Xbox console. But it was at least different than the usual copy/paste games we get. So I hope it gets another chance sometime soon.

Crows90616d ago

It was a crytek game though

1nsomniac616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

It was a stunning game on all basis. One of the standout games for Xbox as a whole. I ended up buying on pc as well… and yes nothing looked better than it in PC at the time either. Nothing just ok about it, definitely needs a sequel.

fr0sty616d ago

@snookies12, don't pretend like the Xbox One didn't struggle with being gimpled by its tiny pool of ESRAM as a frame buffer. It was significantly weaker than the PS4.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

Metacritic 60, user score 6.4. I'm not alone in putting it into the "ok" category...

VenomCarnage89616d ago

@snookies
Haven't played it but at least you know enough to defend Xbox over it. The game did look good, for an Xbox game. That's not some "subtle shade," it's full on reality.
I remember it being nearly the only graphically decent game on the Xbone for like the first two years after launch, and graphics were that games strength

CrimsonWing69616d ago

I really enjoyed it. Bought it at launch even.

ManMarmalade616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

The qte's were disappointing though. God of war was doing it back in the ps2 days. As gorgeous as the game was, the gameplay needed to be updated.

annoyedgamer617d ago

I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.

gamer7804616d ago

It would have to be funded by MS, I really liked Ryse sure it got repetitive but the setting visuals and story were good

moriarty1889616d ago

MS should have funded a sequel to Ryse and Sunset OD. Two good franchises they definitely needed last gen.

annoyedgamer616d ago

MS is too busy trying to become the next EA, Ryse wont be on their list of titles to finance unless it gets a hipster makeover with lootboxes.

darthv72616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.

Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.

babadivad616d ago

The game is automatically boosted on Series X

darthv72616d ago

sorry... but it's not. It still runs at the same fps the XBO did.

lelo2play616d ago

Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.

Crows90616d ago

It only needed more enemy variety and few more movesets or weapons to use. That would have made the experience tons better.

MadLad616d ago

It was a good game.
Only time I saw quick time events actually make me feel engaged.

This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?

littletad622d ago

Absolutely nothing in this comment makes sense. At all.

anast621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

How does it not make sense? O thy god of reason, shine some evidence upon us. Ryse of Rome, ESO,and AC: Origins are all live service games, between them you can get 275 points. Liveservice games are made to keep people spending. Therefore, Gamepass is a live service and the points are for playing live service games.

It is not my problem that this does not make sense to you, it is absolutely your problem. I mean it is all your problem.

Julion0715622d ago (Edited 622d ago )

Hate Xbox but comments in every Xbox article 😂 without making sense smh

anast621d ago

Bring the evidence and then your emoji might make sense.
