Dead Pixel Live talked to Bobby King, VP of Product Development at Farsight Studios about their multiplatform title, The Pinball Arcade. During the forty minute long interview, we discuss everything from the possibility of a 'pinball construction set' to the likelyhood of a Metallica table, to the tangled web of licensing agreements. He also tells us about the difficulties a small studio can face when releasing a title through Microsoft's hurdles for the Xbox 360. And how the XBox One's as yet unknown publishing policies for smaller devs may make development unfeasable compared to the less cumbersome paths of the Sony Playstation, Ouya and mobile platforms.
Mr. King lets us in on some of the enhancements that are coming for the next gen platform versions of The Pinball Arcade, including the PS4 and Wii U, the next batch of table releases and why an Xbox One version may not happen at all.
The Pinball Arcade originally appeared on the Switch eShop last month. The thing is, it was only up for an incredibly short period. FarSight Studios had it removed due to a licensing issue. A month later, The Pinball Arcade is back up on the eShop – presumably for good.
FarSight Studios have announced that over 50 of their current tables will be pulled from the Pinball Arcade on June 30th due to a licensing deal ending.
Ok. So they might as well just take the game out of the retail and digital stores, because they are esentially killing it’s appeal by not renewing the licenses. Wow. Well, hopefully Williams and Midway do their own digital games. Id even pay $5000 plus for a full sized digital pinball machine that includes all of the classic tables. Just as long as it’s 4K. Which I think is FarSights biggest issue..
Not keeping up to date with new tables and the newer consoles and taking advantage of 4K, to help sharpen up the visuals. Which, really, would’ve just taken a resolution boost and 16xAF, maybe add some ambient occlusion to make the table some feel more three dimensional.
You should only worry about this if you've never played pinball fx. 😋
The Nintendo Switch will soon be home to a variety of pinball titles and the latest joining them is The Pinball Arcade. The Pinball Arcade news channel just arrived in Europe but the game has yet to get an official release date.
I remember playing the T2 pinball, good times
Can't wait too get this for my ps4 it looks staggering in detail.
once again Xbox Looses out! the wii u in trouble? don't think so, when will the trolls open their eyes and finally see the truth? http://mynintendonews.com/2... SEE? this is just one of the many examples in UK, the pikmin 3 sales in japan, yeah, sorry trolls if you are looking for a console loser, it's the x box one, PS4 AND THE WII U are the only two machines that are going to last in the next gen war.
O noes what a shame/s
It sounds more like an issue with the publisher they chose then it is with MS...
Why isn't anyone bad mouthing Cave for not paying Far Sight? To me that is the real crime.
I don't like that MS has these requirements. But, I think it plays a role in protecting consumers when independent studios go bankrupt as they often do. I have bought every arcade game on 360 since the start, and today, I can still download all except for a couple of them. Given that over 30 of the devt studios associated with these games have gone under, I think that is really good that MS retains the ability to distribute the content for consumers that purchased it and it still works after multiple 360 updates.
