Seriously there will be gamers in the area of this convention who would be desperate to go in and check out all the new stuff. But because of their sexuality they cant...

Uh you guys know you're welcome at regular conventions. Honestly I don't think this is needed. What would be the difference in a gay gamer convention?

Right?? I'm pretty sure we don't have "straight" or "bisexual" conventions and if so....just stop it. Humanity creates its own segregation. I don't care what ur preference is sexually, if u like to play games what's the problem just play the dam game.

You do understand that straight people are also welcome at this convention. I don't know that an entire separate convention is necessary either, but apparently they feel it is necessary. The same way I don't think that an entire separate convention is necessary for women either.

I don't know if this sort of convention is needed, but judging from some of the hateful comments that people make maybe it is needed. Either way it's just another convention and while it does focus on LGBT issues, it doesn't exclude straight people from being allowed at the convention. If anything this will inspire the other conventions to add some focus on these topics.

I'm assuming conventions like these are supposed to encourage people to come out who would normally feel shy or excluded. But wouldn't a convention like this imply that they AREN'T welcome and WOULDN'T feel comfortable at other conventions?

The convention is for the sake of tackling issues the LBGT community has with/in gaming. Their portrayals, jobs, what have you.

That's not something they get in "normal" conventions.

And it's not like it's ONLY for them. Us "normal" people can attend, too.

Think on that, for a moment: would you feel awkward in a convention where everything around you was catering to people you couldn't identify with? Like a white guy at a convention for the black community, you'd feel pretty awkward and out of place.

That's how they likely feel at conventions that are, by their nature, designed without them in mind.

I wish they could feel as comfortable at any other convention as I do. But I'm not naive enough to think that it's like that, solely because I wish it. Not everybody is as open-minded and accepting as I am(not to toot my own horn or anything), and a lot of people are downright hateful. Though it's not intentional, your average con would make these people feel more at home than someone of the LBGT community would; the real killer is that it's not even intentional.

It's just not thought of.

So they took it into their own hands to make an convention that dealt with THEIR voice and face in gaming.

Well, it's not wrong, but maybe they could work to incorporate and champion their ideas into existing conventions rather than breaking off to do their own thing. It seems to make more sense to make E3 friendly to their demographic rather than just accept that it's not and do their own thing. I mean, I'm African American, but it'd never contemplate starting my own Black Gaming Convention because I felt "Black culture" wasn't represented enough, and because I couldn't relate to the "white people." It's silly to me.

Its pretty obvious this convention is for folks to meet other folks with the same interests. There will be members of the LGBT community that are closet gamers (excuse the terminology) and want to meet someone with the same interests. Fair play, I hope its a success.
