South Park's creators explain how The Stick of Truth got too big for its own good

Polygon: "Trey Parker and Matt Stone, creator of South Park, said games like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, EarthBound, Paper Mario and The Legend of Zelda were key influencers in their decision to make South Park: The Stick of Truth. Drawing inspiration from those games, however, led to ambition that got the best of them."

Happy for trey and Matt but they couldn't have pickeda worse developer to make the game. Every obsidian game is either extreamly buggy, poorly devlopered, or outright unplayable. Then instead of manning up and saying they screwed up and blame the whole world for their awful games and claim they have "no time to develop" ON EVERY GAME, including the game they had free reign on (Alpha Protocol) which was horrible and unplayable because of the game mechanics. I hope this game is different for them but I haven't seen one good game from them ever so I won't up my hopes high. At least it's with ubisoft they have Produce mostly great games so hopefully they'll slap some sense into Obsidian.

They made fallout new Vegas. That was a great game.

barb_wire3933d ago

It was.. but was full of glitches and freezes on both the 360/PS3.. yeah, they were working with Bethesda's poorly optimized gfx engine but Obsidian modded it heavily themselves, yet the bugs, glitches and freezing were still there.

I'd agree if the tutorial wasn't so bugged you couldn't get out of it....tried 10 different characters and it all bugged out. Wasn't just me either, almost everyone who bought it at my store traded it in the next day. Maybe they fixed it with the ultimate edition but I won't give Obsidian another cent because of their failures.

Alpha Protocol had 2 budget increases, and 3 time extensions. What was delivered was absolute nonsense. Fallout: New Vegas was great but it was no mistake that it was a buggy broken turd, and most of the game was practically already done (Fallout 3 on a different map) All they had to do was voice acting, character models, landscape, quest design, and tweak the AI slightly. The game was pretty much done, it just needed a new map.

I think what they mean is that they are hoping there game lives up to be seen as a great game up there with Skyrim.

We are going to see a lot of crap South Park products since they sold out to paramount years ago. It's their IP they can sell out, of course; it just means the quality of their show has tanked and other products as well. Nevertheless, they put on excellent musicals, but those haven't been sold to a mega corporation.

They said awhile ago that Ubisoft holds contract rights to the main flagship South Park games. So like stick, fractured and phone destroyer.

Snow Day was handled by THQ and Question and is a random spinoff. Hopefully Ubisoft is cooking something.

That's one reason to be hopeful, but Ubi is trending down too.

Loved the RPGs but never played the others. Have to track them down. Still not sure about Snow Day though.

The 7 Best South Park Games

The South Park series has somehow managed to stay relevant for over 25 years, but which are the best games based on the TV show?

cammers1995134d ago (Edited 134d ago )

The only two worth playing are Stick of truth and fractured but whole. The rest were garbage except snow day which I can't say anything about yet. But with that said, unlike stick and fractured which debuted as AAA full priced titles by ubisoft, snow day is a new developer and publisher and has a budget price at only $30 soooo

I see Deadpool made the list. Also saw it in stock at the local game store. Second hand. Might finally pick up a copy.
