I Can't Tell If These Are Game Screens Or Photos Of Cars

Kotaku - I know, you know, we all know, Project CARS looks amazing. I'm not here today to try and educate you. I'm just here to revel in its beauty.

TomShoe3924d ago

God, this looks so hot.

Problem, Xbone?

TXIDarkAvenger3924d ago

Not sure where your getting at. It may not be for One but it certainly is for 360.

3924d ago
assdan3924d ago

I don't think that it looks really. I can't explain why, but something's not quite right.

MidnytRain3923d ago

That's usually how it is. Even if somethings the smallest bit off, a flag pops up somewhere, even if you can't explain it. These look really good, though.

toxic-inferno3923d ago

There's something that looks a little bit toy car to me about a lot of those screens. Don't get me wrong, they look like realistic-looking toy cars, but in the pictures that don't show anything in the background, I have a hard time believing they're full-size...

Gigaguy7773924d ago

What about the people who don't care about racing games? I don't think the Xbox One will have a problem with those people, ya know, the large demographic.

I told you Project Cars is looking like one mean force to be reckoned with. Seriously it looks way better than Forza and even GT6 but what I like most is that it offers much more in terms of racing.

Both GT6 and Forza are great but I am really excited for Project Cars, it seems to be doing more and something new. Not just because of the simulation or detail but because of the variety of cars and different styles of racing this game offers that I have yet to see in any other racing sim.

It is entirely built by a community of racers which I love. That teaser they recently released on Vimeo is so gorgeous. I have turned so many fans of Forza and GT6 over to this game, they are all really excited about it.

They should be, they are putting a ton of effort into this game.

I see so many people arguing about Drive Club, Forza and GT6. Yet barely anyone mentions this, which always blows my mind.

AbortMission3924d ago

I'll just get the PC version for free once someone comes out with a torrent.

The definitive version is obviously the PC version. The current gen consoles, ps3, 360 and wii u all run at 720p

paranoid19713924d ago

Nice way to support the industry, thieving tosser

hiredhelp3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

@Abxortmission
Im a supporter of project cars WMD. I get a build once a month you can't put a small sum money in less than half price of a game. I think im junior at the time all i could afford like $15 i think somert silly.

CandyFace3924d ago

This is why developers include DRM in games. You should feel ashamed.

starfox793924d ago

No wiiu runs 720p native at 30fps but that was a prob, and upscales to 1080p,with graphics more in line with pc,and going off Shinen's recent interview they say you need 16MB edram to stream 1080p natively, and say wiiu can basicaly do it easy as long as you use the edram section, wiiu has 32MB and maybe another 32MB in that 30% unknown specs,in nana assault they used 1 core of the cpu ? plus myamoto said they may make pikimin3 4K compatible ?? look if you think Slightly Mad Studio's would say ProjectC will look and feel amazing on wiiu they mean it,when asked is in using pc assets he smiled....

PS3 and 360 will have sub 720p resolution, and will have much less detail....

CaptCalvin3923d ago

Subtlety is the key to trolling. And I can't believe people are falling for this.

herbs3923d ago (Edited 3923d ago )

Starfox79 stop your fanboy troll quest. The Wii U will never be able to output 4k resolution stop twisting Miyamotos words to further your delusional fanboy fantasies. Yes the Wii U is more powerful than people give it credit for but this is the second time you have posted about this B.S. Stop clogging the message boards with your bogus hardware equations you have no idea what your talking about.

nurdeens3923d ago

You're a great man. Beat the system!

ibroman3923d ago

Wii u will run faster than ps360 (disagree all you want it's the truth.)

@CaptCalvin. N4G is filled with too many fanboys who can't use their brains well

LonDonE3923d ago

Yet, why have they not showed proper wii u, 360 or PS3 real time game play? showing stills, is all dandy, but in real time there are stark differences, for instance, when you play a race in gran turismo 5, and then pause it,and take a picture, and save the pic to your PS3 xmb menu, the car is glossed over, and so looks so much better then in game, and i suspect this is the same thing with project cars, the pics get re-rendered in native 1080p, also you have to take into account these are pc videos, and pictures, who knows what kind of beast rig they are using!

And take into account that on consoles project cars is only running at native 720p at 30fps, and so the devs can cram allot more detail into the game compared to a 60fps game like forza and Gran turismo 5,and GT5 also renders natively at 1280 by 1080p at 60fps, while forza is native 1280 by 720p at 60fps, while project cars is native 1280 by 720p at 30FPS! this makes a massive difference in rendering budget, either way for a sim racer, 60fps is much more important then 30fps, controller feed back and input lag is effected when comparing 60fps vs 30fps!

Until this game is 60fps on consoles, it pointless to compare it to GT5 or Forza, both trump this game by miles, sorry but its true, also with the wii u having double the ram, why couldn't they get the higher res textures in their? ala need for speed on wii u? its lazy, i am sure if the gpgpu were optimised for this game they could get better performance out of it then a 7yr old 360 or PS3!

herbs3923d ago

Why are you people giving LonDone disagrees? He is making some very valid points. 60fps makes a huge difference especially when it comes to racing games and it is even more important for a realistic simulation experience.

Feralkitsune3923d ago

To be fair, this game was a PC exclusive at first, then they decided to put it on consoles as well. You'll likely see the console version after PC version is finished.

aaron58293924d ago

freaking amazing...

really hope this one will release on the ps4 too.

If the physics is as real as it gets... its gonna be an effing amazing game for the sim-ers like myself. Just hope it wont go the arcade-sim route.

AfterThought3924d ago (Edited 3924d ago )

Some of the people working on this game are known for having some of the best tire physics around, they shouldn't disappoint with anything else. It should be a real treat for any racing simulator fan.

level 3603924d ago

Of all the racing titles that will be coming out soon Project C.A.R.S. is the one I'm very much looking forward to.

Aghashie3924d ago

I can only think on one thing...

when, finally this game is gonna be released!?

Aghashie3924d ago

thanks for posting.

I was really looking for a christmas release... seems that I have to wait a little longer. really hyped for this one. hope the wait is worth.

grimmweisse3924d ago

No problem, the thing with the developer is that game is community funded, rather than a publisher helping them to make the game. So they don't need to overly rush the game. Probably that's why it's looking so good.

So with the community funding it, the date is not certain, but a target to aim for, Q1 2014. Good news is that they want to bring the game over to next-gen console, but that depends on their funding. Good news for self-publishing on the PS4.

SniperControl3924d ago

Sorry to disappoint. Could be Q3 at the latest.....

Why did EA Kill Project CARS?

This video explains why we think Electronic Arts didn't see a future in the sim racing title Project CARS and promptly cancelled the fourth instalment.

Jin_Sakai521d ago

After the last installment I’d say most hardcore fans left. It’s just not that good anymore so I can’t really blame EA this time.

masterfox521d ago

because it was always a project and it never got finished :D

ChubbyBlade519d ago

Every game is a project. Your joke doesn’t make sense

InUrFoxHole518d ago

It makes perfect sense. It's obviously a play on the title. Jesus christ you must be a blast at parties.

ApocalypseShadow520d ago (Edited 520d ago )

Ask Bullfrog or Black Box or Tiburon or Studio 33 or Criterion or any of the previously acquired developers who made racing games as competition, or as developers of EA games, then eventually dissolved into oblivion or reassigned. Just ask them. They'll tell you why.

ApocalypseShadow519d ago

Oh. I forgot. Even Code Masters were absorbed into Criterion. Another racing developer EA took over.

Every racing developer either absorbed by EA or eventually destroyed by them. They either kill competition or have them in the end make Need 4 Speed for them.

MadLad519d ago

EA only cancels projects for one reason.
They didn't see enough money in it.

Kombatologist519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

Not when it's because it didn't meet some crazy margin. It's like if something doesn't make EA a billion dollars on day one (I'm exaggerating that figure of course), they swiftly put it out to pasture.

SurgicalMenace519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

Much like if you're spending money on what's a bad investment for your desired goals, you'd do away with it, if you're wise. We should try to get away from thinking we know more about business than individuals that have been doing it for decades. Perhaps you could benefit from going into business instead of wasting all of your talents in comment sections. It's clear that you're the missing piece that EA's been looking for.

MadLad518d ago

I've made a good amount of money betting on underdog investments over the years.

EA sets unrealistic expectations of their more niche developers, yet continue to fund absolute blunders like DICE and the Battlefield series year after year.

dumahim519d ago

EA butted in and messed with the formula and act shocked when it doesn't work out.

Original Project CARS creator trying to re-hire EA team

Ian Bell, the founder of Slightly Mad Studios, is aiming to hire former Project CARS employees to work on his upcoming GTR Revival project.

Sgt_Slaughter522d ago

If it's just going to be another sim-cade that doesn't do either one correctly then no thanks.

Project CARS 2 was a step in the right direction but the physics still aren't where they should have been, so what did they do for PC3? Go completely arcade. That killed the franchise.

EA dropping Project CARS

From GI.biz: "EA is dropping Project CARS, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal.

The Slightly Mad Studios-developed series was launched in 2015, with EA confirming today that it has made the decision to "stop further development and investment" in the franchise.

The announcement was made internally and it's unclear at this stage to which extent staff could be affected. EA said that employees working on Project CARS will be moved into "suitable" roles "wherever [they] can.""

Terry_B524d ago

Typical for EA. They buy studios that created nice games..and are sooner or later destroying them and move the people to work on the old same 5+ EA series.

italiangamer524d ago

They will put the developers on the 1000th Need for Speed for the rest of their entire careers, just like Criterion.

SurgicalMenace524d ago

To be fair, it's not EAs fault it falls directly on the consumer. Everytime these companies choose to drop a series they're met with backlash though the gamers didn't support said series enough to justify its continuation. Attempting to paint every company as evil all because they're in it to succeed is ridiculous. They have to make money just like each of us typing in this section. If a job wasn't supporting you well you'd quit and find a new one, this is the same mentality concerning series.

TheColbertinator524d ago

@SurgicalMenace

No it is their fault. They don't listen to fans and burn the franchise to the ground by introducing elements that nobody wanted instead of increasing support for said respected franchises.

I order a steak, they make a steak. 1st sale
I order a steak again, they vomit on my steak and charge me more for it. No sale.

EA in a nutshell.

Tapani523d ago

@TheColbinator Well how do you think they make the billions then?

Their fans ARE buying their games. You are just not their focus group, and I can guarantee their customer insights team is more thorough and detailed in their reaearch than any N4G commentors’ opinion on the matter. Otherwise EA would not exist as a company, and they’d be bankrupt.

deleted524d ago

The one that still hurts the most though was Criterion w the Burnout series. Acquired Criterion's tech for their own existing IP, then shut em down. It's basically parasitic. I sure do miss Burnout's crash mode!

Hofstaderman524d ago

Sounds eerily similar to another large unnamed corporation hey. I believe some EA bigwigs shifted to that company back in the day, would explain the similarities.

rlow1523d ago

Must be talking about Sony

peppeaccardo524d ago

and instead they come out with that piece of shit of Need for Speed which looks like an Anna & Barbera cartoon. C'mon .... PC2 was my go to game for VR racing and the first one i played for tens of hours. i was so lookiing forward to PC4 after that failure of PC3 ... what a shame EA, they are bombing all the good games and stick to the garbage ones. EA when you think you have reached maximum of disappointment they top it off with style .... screw them!

SurgicalMenace524d ago

Need for Speed continues to sell so why would they get rid of what's producing what they need to maintain stability?

EazyC524d ago

What they did to this series was idiotic. The premise was great -- a sim/simcade game that GENUINELY got developed in line with its community. There is a huge gap in the market for this...I mean, PD hasn't listened to fans at all over the last year with regard to simple Gran Turismo 7 tweaks. Sim racing fans are screaming for a title where they actually give a shit about their users.

Project Cars 2 was genuinely on to something, it just needed some refinement. But instead they followed up by selling off to EA with a braindead GRID clone with Project Cars 3. Again...idiotic.

SurgicalMenace524d ago

Well since you're the authority on properly managing a million dollar company, why don't you just call them to let them know of your divine wisdom?

Hardcore sim racers are the ones who are competing acrossed the globe, no company in their right mind would focus on a forever moving casual market. They have to focus on those dedicated to supporting their efforts. Notice how you're speaking from a perspective of self opposed to the collective. Perhaps they sold out because they, like us, needed the money knowing that they could reinvest it into something new. PC was a decent racer but very few people mainlined it over GT or Forza.

EazyC524d ago

I'm not a divine authority but I notice a pattern where these huge corporations turn completely tone deaf of what the "average fan" wants.

vallencer524d ago

Hate to break it to you but project cars 3 was published by Bandai in 2020. EA didn't buy codemasters, which owned slightly mad studios, until 2021. Either way the sales were super poor for the game and it's not surprising EA would just drop the game. BUT it still sucks because it's one less sim racing game on the market. Especially because the first 2 were really good.

Tzuno524d ago

and focuses more on cartoon network games
