Miyamoto says it would have been great if Wii had been HD

Making the Wii SD as opposed to HD was a bit of a controversial decision at the time for Nintendo. HD televisions were starting to break out, and Sony and Microsoft both adapted this functionality for their own consoles - the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

It would have also been great if it had current gen specs, an HDD, and creative new IP's instead of rehashes of mario and zelda.

The only thing Wii proved is that console sales are no longer tied to how good a console is anymore.

I could have cared less about the online features, aside from it being used for MH 3 or something. But I did want to play Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn in HD, or some of my old Gamecube games that I cherished in HD, or something along those lines.

Well you might get them now, now wait and see if Nintendo will remake their old gamecube games because thats the only way to get a HD gamecube game, not just putting it in the console.

The online function is much more important than HD. They're in HD now but their online system is so far behind.

I actually get most of my games in HD through emulators. They run better with a great graphics card and look a great deal better. I somewhat agree with you about that, but I really wish Nintendo learned to this ahead of time. Also, I would taken into consideration the online portion if I was part of the online group, but i'm really not. My favourite online game is Dota 2

They don't need to release a console with comparable power. They need to release their flagship titles. Nintendo fans don't buy third party games unless it's a Lego, fit, or dance game.

I love the Wii in SD as it is, but the 3rd part support that HD brought to 360/ps3 in addition to first party Nintendo titles would have made it one hell of a console.

Well the benefits of maintaining it as an SD console was that it was extremely cheap to produce which allowed Nintendo to undercut the 360 and PS3 by an extremely large amount.

It would have been nice if it was a HD console but then the Wii wouldn't have been as successful due to its higher price point.

they never learn from their mistakes. Once Iwata became Nintendo's boss he ruined the company. Just look at the N64, GC, Wii and Wii U compared to the Nes and Snes...They should be thankful they don't have much competition in the handheld area or the company would be 6 feet under by now.

Hmm. You make a good point. They really pushed the PS3's price up with that blu ray player. Maybe a little less than double the PS3. It's still technically got a form of proprietary disk that's not unlike a blu ray, though.

If the original Wii was in HD Nintendo woulda had to make the Console more powerful most of the games that came out look horrible graphics wise, the only game that woulda look good in HD is Mario Galaxy.

I agree, the next graphical jump will be to 4k resolution and it would be very much appreciated if Nintendo's next console supports this resolution. But since Nintendo doesn`t care about that stuff :(

It was designed around standard definition, looking at 90% of the games on wii in HD wouldnt be pretty. Excluding nintendo titles and high end 3rd party stuff, obviously.
