Miyamoto says it would have been great if Wii had been HD

Making the Wii SD as opposed to HD was a bit of a controversial decision at the time for Nintendo. HD televisions were starting to break out, and Sony and Microsoft both adapted this functionality for their own consoles - the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Hindsight is 1080p, I suppose...

miyamoto3931d ago (Edited 3931d ago )

Ouch!

Even Miyamoto-san agrees with HD consoles

And Nintendo thinks they can get away overpriced outdated tech...

now their scam finally bit them in the arse

oh how things made a quick U turn

back in 2009 why would I insult my 46 inch Samsung HD TV with an SD console
it makes no sense

I bought an HD TV to watch HD Bluray movies and HD Bluray games

that made more practical sense

BISHOP-BRASIL3931d ago

Lol... U turn... I can't help but think, if we already got the Wii U-turn and Xbox One-80 memes in order, Sony better watch out.

Pushagree3932d ago

It would have also been great if it had current gen specs, an HDD, and creative new IP's instead of rehashes of mario and zelda.

The only thing Wii proved is that console sales are no longer tied to how good a console is anymore.

Rai3932d ago

I think their online strategy for the wii was worst than it not being HD.

Murad3932d ago

I could have cared less about the online features, aside from it being used for MH 3 or something. But I did want to play Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn in HD, or some of my old Gamecube games that I cherished in HD, or something along those lines.

Rai3932d ago (Edited 3932d ago )

Well you might get them now, now wait and see if Nintendo will remake their old gamecube games because thats the only way to get a HD gamecube game, not just putting it in the console.

The online function is much more important than HD. They're in HD now but their online system is so far behind.

Murad3932d ago

@Rai
I actually get most of my games in HD through emulators. They run better with a great graphics card and look a great deal better. I somewhat agree with you about that, but I really wish Nintendo learned to this ahead of time. Also, I would taken into consideration the online portion if I was part of the online group, but i'm really not. My favourite online game is Dota 2

ChickeyCantor3932d ago

Well excuuuuuuuuse me princess. But 90's internet emulation is the best around.

It's not lag, it's a feature.

StraightedgeSES3932d ago

They should have used an x1600 or a x1650 for the Wii.

It's no good crying over spilt milk.

die_fiend3932d ago

Ditch Wii U and make a console comparable with PS4. What were Nintendo thinking when they decided to release that way before the next gen was going to start. Have they not heard of the Dreamcast?

SymphonicRain3932d ago

You know they were only a year off right?

die_fiend3932d ago

Ok then. Later than I thought. Which makes the power discrepancy even more pronounced. They're in trouble with Wii U. But they haven't ever made a loss on a console generation so we'll see

tracyllrkn3932d ago

They don't need to release a console with comparable power. They need to release their flagship titles. Nintendo fans don't buy third party games unless it's a Lego, fit, or dance game.

Nintendo releases consoles in 5 year cicles!First no one is oblidge to by a WII U and im pretty sure that people that like games, and Nintendo is actually beginning to show them, will have no problem in buy the console because its not the power of the console that matters is the quallity of the games! If you want a powerfull machine buy a top of the line gaming PC!

I love the Wii in SD as it is, but the 3rd part support that HD brought to 360/ps3 in addition to first party Nintendo titles would have made it one hell of a console.

Wii U games that still haven't been ported to Switch

The Nintendo Switch is potentially nearing its lifespan, and several Wii U games haven't found their way over as ports yet.

I think it's better to leave games like AC: Amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash forgotten on the Wii U. Best case, they are mediocre games; worse case, they are very bad. It was a dark time for the Wii U, and the first only exists to sell Amiibo cards, whereas the second was put together in a couple of months with a shoestring budget, and it shows.

The rest of the list does have some really cool games, though. I would love to see a remake of Star Fox Zero with decent controls, and Xenoblade X doesn't require that much modification to work.

How would XCX work without dual screens functionality?

Cacabunga2d ago

Same as Paper Mario color splash. One of the best wiiu games and getting even better with dual screen. Same reason why i prefer Splatoon 1

This article leaves out Nintendo's most controversial game to date devils Third.
I personally found the cover system really fun in that one compared to at the time most fps games completely lacking one.

Stevonidas2d ago

Devil's Third is HIGHLY underrated.

repsahj2d ago

They should remake Starfox to the switch 2. Very beautiful game during gamecube days.

Chocoburger2d ago

Kirby is always ignored or forgotten by people, so good to see it mentioned here.
Play Kirby Canvas Curse on DS, and then play Rainbow Curse on Wii U, they're really fun and unique 'platformers' without any actual jumping.
