Namco Bandai Trash-Talks the PS Vita

Hardcore Gamer: Well here’s one you don’t see every day. Namco Bandai EU posted the trailer for the upcoming “Adventure Time: Explore the Dungeon Because I DON’T KNOW!” which was an otherwise fairly unremarkable video featuring some of the developers and voice actors briefly discussing the game in a humorous way. What made it interesting, however, was the way Namco Bandai EU responded to a comment expressing displeasure about the game not coming to Vita, with Namco stating “Yeah bad Namco. Who has a PS vita by the way? Oh wait I DON’T KNOW!”

oh well i have a Vita and i'm very happy for it. PS4 remote play is argument enough to go get one. Remote play with PS4 is gonna be insane.

And since i bought Vita last November i have tons of great games and only bought LBP, PS+ is the best thing that happened to gaming in so long time. That right there is a huge add value to the Vita

The price drop in Japan has given it some traction. If Sony would get its head out of its butt, slash the price in the west and localize Toukiden, it can do better. Not GREAT per se, but better.

I think that's why Wii U will have a cleaner holiday season. Pikmin 3 caused a small spike in Japan. Now imagine Mario or Zelda doing that in all regions. Sony needs to take that same "games, games, games" approach on Vita.

Vita is continuing to outsell the Wii U in Japan. People don't want the Wii U. I'd even go so far as to say that sales of Nintendo's first party Wii U games will not be as impressive as everyone seems to think for 2 reasons. Firstly, too late to be as effective as they could have been. Second, the casual audience isn't buying up the Wii U like they did the Wii and they don't have the same franchise loyalty as a Nintendo fanboy such as yourself has.

The Wii U will most likely be successful, but don't count on it being anywhere close to the Wii.

I've made this point in the past before; I don't see PS4 integration helping the Vita all that much in the long run. If anything, it's a convenience for Sony fans who have both systems and want the features that come with them. I don't see the masses paying $700+ for a PS4, a system that can double as a Wii U-esque controller and at least one game to play on them.

I'd also like to see how Sony plans to support Vita this year, because we're at the halfway point and I haven't heard much about new releases outside of Toukiden which hasn't even been localized (but is selling impressively).

With the sales figures you linked, I'd like to point out that the Vita has been outselling Wii U, but the Wii U hasn't had a new game to its name since, what, March? First party titles have always moved Nintendo platforms and if the 3DS is anything to go by, the Mario brand is pretty strong right now.

I could be wrong about all of this and I'm not going to pretend I know what will happen. But for this holiday I'm pretty convinced that Wii U will, as you said, not make Wii numbers, but as he said will probably outsell Vita. We'll just have to see.

Hope you like my 3-4 K/D ratios in all of them. PS3 is my main system (for shooters, fighters and Sony exclusives)and the best overall system this past generation. As for Vita outselling Wii U right now in Japan ... Wii U hasn't had it's best games come out yet. Pikmin 3 JUST came out. Let's see which one is winning in Japan by the end of the year.

Paragraph 2: Year's not over yet. We don't know what they have in the pipeline.

Paragraph 3: 3DS doesn't have the recognition problem that the Wii U does, or the late game offerings, or the price. You can't compare the Wii U with the 3DS just to say that Mario sells strong. The Wii U will be in its second year before getting the true must haves of Nintendo's first party, and the casuals will have long since stopped paying attention or they'll simply continue thinking the Wii U is an extension of the Wii. Nintendo has a lot of problems beyond just games. They don't know who they're targeting with the Wii U, and Nintendo Directs aren't going to be seen by the casual audience because they don't go looking for them. Nintendo first party titles sell, but Nintendo isn't the same as they used to be. In the Gamecube era, the hardcore would have been all over that. But Nintendo shunned them with the Wii so I'll really be interested in seeing just how many by a Wii U to play a Mario game after years of waiting and/or being shunned and/or being the wrong market.

Final Paragraph: I'm not going to make specific predictions about the holidays myself, but I definitely think the Wii U will seriously underperform in comparison to the Wii. As for the Vita, I can't say for certain how it's going to perform this year.

@Loadedklip: Your Call of Duty stats doesn't mean that you don't favour the Wii U over the Vita. Your comments literally show it more. If you don't want to come off as a Nintendo fanboy, don't act like one.

I wouldn't care if the Wii U sells more. The Vita will continue to get third party and first party games since Vita owners actually purchase first and third party titles.

As a side note, I am getting X and Super Smash Bros, but Nintendo first party title quality is worse than ever. Except for a few games, they've lately been releasing games that wouldn't rate higher than a 7/10 if they weren't Nintendo branded. Opinion only, but there are a ton of games I've played that were in the exact same genre that were a lot better than the Nintendo version of that game.

Along with many Vita games, mixed between indies and AAA, with the Killzone: Mercenary with beast graphics for a handheld, it's like you're remote playing PS3 but you aren't, the PS Vita is totally running the game, but Vita needs more AAA exclusive games, that's no doubt, but I have a feeling Gamescom will annouce plenty more games for Vita(many legit reasons by the look and Tony Clark recently teased it too)

Indeed. Also, I don't know if I'd call it AAA, but Dragon's Crown, unless by some fluke blows on Vita compared to ps3, looks to be a great game that I will purchase on Vita.
The best will be KZ though. When I let people play black ops declassified (don't judge, I didn't pay extra for it, it was the only bundle available at time of purchase) on my Vita some of them think it's awesome. If that game can pull that off, Killzone should be beast.

Assuming everyone will deal with input lag..? Come on now. I honestly haven't tried using remote play on slower net speeds so I can't even say its that bad if you did have slow net but..

I did use Gaikai when I had slower net before I upgraded. It worked perfectly with only a 6mbps connection and I never experience input lag using Gaikai. So I am certain it is gonna work fine for most people. If you have less than 6mbps, you should know better. Chances are very big you can't even play online games well directly on a connection lower than 6mbps.

1. It got to be a 2 way communication since you constantly controlling the game remotely correct? So if the information has to travel back and forth, doesn't that mean that latency is always present?

2. Will they up date the vita to 4g since 3g is pretty slow (supposedly 10 times slower)

3. A couple of weeks ago, people were pretty sure cloud is pipe dream because of slow speed internet, limited bandwidth, and worst, most people still don'tt have internet connection. So how does vita remoteplay won't have latency issue, input lag, or better yet even be able to play since most people on here have confirmed that people still don'tt have reliable connection or internet if at all?

because for starters most uses of psp and vita remote play are not the same , and about locally even if wirelessly accessing your console in the same place , not over the internet .

You are just being streamed a (potentially) 1080p feed into a 960x544 native vita resolution using the PS4's in-built hardware h.264 video encoder to compress the image .

Of course there will be limitation if going online , depending on your connexion , but for the most part , when even allowed to the psp handled it quite well , and the vita's version will be better .

I travel for work at least once a month, but i have to admit the remote play on the vita is really nice to have. Sometime i go across country and my Vita works great. but there's a little lag occasionally but its not a game breaker.

I don't really see the point in buying a vita. I had a PSP and I didn't use it much. I find that handhelds for me I would use mostly during travel but when you have your own car you spend that time driving instead of having need of something to pass the time. I guess I'm just not the target demographic. At home, I have a PC, PS3, 360, Wii U, Android Tablet and Android phone to play games on, with PS4 and Xbox One preordered. At any rate, the stories I've heard of Vita screens spontaneously cracking are a bit disturbing, although Sony is replacing them at least.

I agree with you. I do have one and long journeys are more suited for the Vita (actually why I bought it as I was going away for a long time). However if you are a PSN+ subscriber I recommend you download the games they release every month. Just incase you do decide to get one further down the line. We don't exactly know what Sony is doing with the Vita + PS4 combination.

Huh? Screens spontaneously cracking? I've never heard of that. I've dropped my Vita a couple times and the thing is still perfect, not a single scratch anywhere on it. It's built like a tank, really great build quality.

The only thing you will usually hear is OLED burn in. That only happens when someone stupidly leaves the same static image on the screen for several hours without changing it. So it is hard to burn the screen also.

You can even look on youtube, people have dropped it for fun. The PS Vita is quite durable and the screen didn't crack even after a couple drops on a paved street.

Lol spontaneous cracking, that made me laugh... If a paved road will not break the screen I can almost put my life on it that they are not just magically cracking randomly on their own.. That is completely absurd.

In all my years of owning anything with a screen period. I have never once heard of a screen magically cracking by itself.. Now that I think about that.

Hmm... launch day Vita here. Dropped a few times on concrete. Some light scratches. Not even a hint of a crack.

I know (personally) roughly a dozen or so others with Vitas. No screen cracks. Especially not of the spontaneous variety.

The last figure someone showed me, and do correct me if this is incorrect, of sales was Vita at 4.5 million and Wii U just under 4 million. And that's based on, what, a yearlong head start that Vita had over Wii U?

I wouldn't really call that "far outsold" it that's the case, but whatever. Neither one is necessarily selling fantastically, but it seems with the release of a new game (Toukiden for Vita and Pikmin 3 for Wii U) sales have managed to go from awful to less awful for both systems.

They're not even marketing it, that's one of the big problems. They've pretty much sent the Vita out to die. They had a perfect opportunity to help the Vita at E3 but they hardly touched it. Their excuse was that they were focusing on PS4. That's fine, but when you have a system failing you cannot just dump it to focus on another one. That's unacceptable. You need to at least try to support both.

Still, E3 means Electronic Entertainment Expo, that means a place mainly to show off your new devices, and yet people always think it's a place to show your games, but still, they still show off games in the E3 booth, look at Vita's E3 booth, it got 35 high rating indie games so it's not totally abandon at E3.
I think there is a chance they will focus more on Vita in Gamescom. Now that they have showed almost everything about PS4 Gamescom they will just be showing games, so it's no harm to take 15 to 30 minutes to show games for PS Vita.
But yeah, they don't seem to be trying to market it at all

My money is on Gamescom. Teasing from Sony aside, if they don't put a real push behind Vita before ps4 launch, they probably wouldn't be able to properly try again until next summer or later. News coverage of next gen rapidly changes (at least the majority of) from hype and marketing to sales numbers, stocking stuffers, shortages and reviews once that release date goes by. Both??? They really had to show support for 3 systems. That is really difficult to do in a 2 hour show that HAD to somewhat focus on a new console. I believe that the Vita will get similar treatment to PSP. It was sent out to the core...it languished a bit...then renewed efforts were placed on both marketing and games...then a price cut...then the mass market. Sony is still trying to figure out how to fight the battle in the handheld space. They know that Nintendo is pretty much "untouchable", but every bit of marketshare counts. Sony will provide more support for the Vita, they have to. The real question becomes how patient will early adopters be in waiting for that support?

Well IMO its the experience which consists of similar gameplay, controls, and graphics to an extent. Playing Uncharted golden abyss on the vita gave the same experience as the ps3 games, and at times felt like I was playing on a ps3. A lot of other games do the same such as AC liberation, gravity rush, wipeout, need for speed,P4G, rayman origins.

Man I really hope Sony can make me want a Vita sooner than later. So far it has some nice games but there hasn't been any real system sellers for me. Which is a shame since I really liked what PSP offered to me.

Yes 3DS is selling very well, but ask gamers with both 3DS and vita, youll be surprised which they play the most. Bottomline is, casuals+hardcore gamers love the 3DS compared to hardcore gamers only to vita. That's too freaking cheap for something like built in memory of 32 GB and about 75% powerful as PS3 and has PS1&PSP emulator and access to Gaika(PS1/PS2/PS3/PSP) and remote play every PS4 games and its own exclusive AAA titles.

Although I don't own a VITA (eventually), I just want to play LUMINES hahaha! or Super Puzzle Fighter, and Patapon. I did enjoy FIFA for Vita, as I think the touch controls allow for accurate placement of where you are trying to aim the ball.

Until more games are released or a price drop occurs, I'll just keep playing my iOS puzzle games (The Room) for example. As well as both next gen consoles....

We got Ridge Racer, that is so void of any content, that iOS port, Asphalt is better rated and better received.
We got Shinobido II, which is poorly executed with lose controls for a stealth ninja game.
We got Katamari, which is good, but it's not a game for everybody, and I'm quite sure a Vita owner has already played Katamri at some point in their life.

And to top it all off, Hideo Baba, producer of the Tales of series has stated that the Vita Tales of games will not get released in the West.

Namco Bandai is not in a position to be joking around like this. Even if this was one person, that person is still a representative of Namco Bandai.

I own a Vita and to be honest I barely play it. Gravity Rush was fun and Persona 4 Golden was really good, albeit an enhanced port. But otherwise? The AC game I got bundled was just boring and unimpressive for me, I couldn't bother to finish the Uncharted game, and the Resistance demo was just plain bad. Stuff like Katamari and Soul Sacrifice just don't appeal to me and I couldn't care less about the indie titles. There's also a bunch of ports of games I've already played. There's really not much on there that interests me. We've got Killzone, a Batman spin-off, and a bunch of ports coming up but that's it. It's a great piece of hardware and even has a decent OS, but it's just not getting the quality, original games. It's pretty much the DS and PSP repeating themselves here.
