Bethesda and ZeniMax Online are billing The Elder Scrolls Online as an MMO for seasoned single player adventurers. It should "feel like Skyrim", in short - there's an optional first-person view, combat is real-time, HUD elements have been kept to a minimum for maximated immersibleness, and everybody's still utterly confuddled by the disappearance of the Dwemer.
During a panel at GDC 2024, Elder Scrolls Online Game Director Matt Firor noted that the MMO has generated a staggering amount of player spending over its decade of operation—almost $2 billion.
Who says a dud game can't have a video game comeback?
Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.
The Elder Scrolls Online has accumulated over 24 million players over the years. The RPG hit the milestone on its 10th anniversary.
I really want more info on this game. I k ow a guy who has friends that are beta testing it and they can't say much due to NDA but he said every time he does ask about it their eyes go big and they say, "holy crap dude! Just wait! You are going to lose your mind!"
Needless to say I'm intrigued.
PS. His friends are die hard elder scroll players from PC days.
Skyrim is overrated, not really my cup of tea.
crazy bad unresponsive combat system? yeah.
Look, Skyrim was fun no doubt about it, I bought it for both 360 and PC...
But it is over-hyped. I don't want something similar to Skyrim gameplay wise. It was okay, but the combat engine needs rewritten if it's supposed to be relevant in the next gen.
I understand it will sell well regardless, but people need to start innovating more because I'm so tired of sequel after sequel of the same feeling games.
