Why Are Fans Buying a PS4 at Launch?

According to a survey of 30,000 IGN users that was conducted on June 25 and 26, nearly 41% said that they intend on purchasing a PlayStation 4 at launch. So it seems as if the next logical question to ask is: Why?

Because we are excited about games again. Because of its power. Because Sony actually cares about gamers. Because of Mark Cerny. Because of all the exclusives coming to the system. Because we have no allegiance to a brand, but rather allegiance to the greatness of play and with PlayStation 4....

One more things: It's $100 cheaper than the competition.

Say what you want about the ps3 but sony never gave up on its fans, the ps3 is still getting tons of exclusive games. In my eyes and many others it was the best console to own this gen.

OT - I want a PS4 at launch because the launch titles are looking so good I'm actually having a hard time deciding which ones to buy. Luckily one of my most anticipated games is Planetside 2, and it will be completely free so that will make things easier on my wallet. Usually I buy 2-3 games with a console when it launches, but this time I could buy none and still have plenty to play for awhile since DC Online Universe and Warframe will be free also. Blacklight too, though I don't know if that's a launch title.

$399 and I'll already have games to play. Doesn't get much better than that.

Disastrous PS3?

Did we just watch the same console generation?

What I saw was a machine launch early with incomplete unreliable hardware, that everyone bought (myself included) because thats all there was going to be for a year, only to be supported for half its lifespan and then swept under the rug by its parent company and had the worst failure rate of probably any consumer electronics in history yet somehow still managed to avoid a total recall.

Then I saw another, more expensive machine launch later (fact), had no games (lies), heaps of media hate (fact) and pretty much was the cause of the rise of internet trolling, console bashing, fanboys and FUD. (Also fact).

Despite this the latter sold faster than the former from the moment it came out, delivered better games, more often and more varied, and still does it to this day with new IP's still coming in its 7th year. Plus its sold more overall, not that I care.

In what bizarre parallel universe can that be deemed disastrous, and before you go bu bu but PS2, marketshare, every generation starts at zero, and its anyones to win. Nothing is a given. No one is guaranteed success based on the past.

PSOne was the first console to ever sell 100 million units.
PS2 was the 2nd.
In all likelihood PS3 will do it 3 times in a row.

Sonys worst selling console outsold Microsofts best selling console so think about that when you want to troll next. Sony got through its curse of 3 with flying colours. We will see how MS handles theirs, but so far its not looking good. In fact, you could say its looking "Disastrous".

Killzone: Shadow Fall, Knack, DriveClub, and Watch_Dogs will be available at launch with inFamous: Second Son available soon after.

Also, $399 is a sweet entry point that allows me to be able to afford to get it at launch.

The last factor is I dont know how available the PS4 will be in the first half of 2014 if there are shortages, Id rather get one as soon as I can to avoid any hassles getting it later

I really want to play the 64 player Amazing Graphics BF4 on PS4 - So Day One for me... (Huge Battlefield Fan-been playing since Battlefield 2: Modern Combat on the first Xbox back in 2005)

And of course I was already getting a PS4 so why wait, at $399 that's a sweet deal..(Not to mention it's coming out Nov -early Christmas Present to myself -I also plan on upgrading the hard drive to a 1TB so that will give me enough time to get it all set up before key games start coming out..

-add a second controller and I'm set for 2014 and it's going to be an amazing year for Gaming.. A lot of Must haves are dropping in 2014 -

Same here....me and my clan mates can wait to play BF4 and the 64 player chaos is gonna be awesome.

I'm gonna upgrade my PS4 HDD to 1TB as well so i won't have to worry about running out of space because we're gonna see more games come out much faster for the console this next gen because of the easier hardware the developers are excited to work with.

I thought there was an article showing exclusives over the last 3 years between 360 and PS3. Maybe you need to go summarize in that article. Far from disastrous my friend. Also the Iphone is way different then PS3. The Ps3 was way better then far as the 360 on the market.

The gamepad is what sold me mostly. It has a surprisingly fast browser and I have a tiny apartment so it reaches to the bedroom and bathroom. Internet, Netflix, gaming in my hands. I know its a gimmicky thing to like but its cool. I'm using it right now to type this. I never owned a touch computer or ipad so that is maybe why I fell for it. It's just cool beans. And I invested in it because I know Nintendo's first party games will be great.

But the launch lineup had no influence. Nintendo will deliver a classic for the console. Like every console they release.

To be honest, all I'm really looking forward too at launch is Killzone, which looks like it will really freshen up the series, and Watchdogs which looks like a great Sandbox to tinker in.

So yes, one of those games I could get on another platform, even one I already own, but great games are a given on Playstation, so I'm getting a PS4 for whats to come, not whats available at launch.

Having said that, Second Son was the best thing I saw at E3, I'm really excited to see what Naughty Dog and Media Molecule have up their sleeves, and my most anticipated game, and has been since we first heard about it is The Last Guardian and I can only hope its constant delays have been so it can be moved to PS4. If fact I would be disappointed at this point if it came out only on PS3 even though I need to buy a new machine to play it.

Roll on the next gen.

I dont think thats really dawned on people yet. As good as PS4 looks already, we still have no idea about Naughty Dog are up to. Best Devs of the generation, hands down. Last of Us is a masterpiece, and thats not just a marketing slogan. It really is.

Media Molecule. Personally I think LBP2 is the best game of the generation. It seems like its for casuals and it is, but its so hardcore too. I was planning out vehicles and contraptions in Autocad and then building them in LBP. With their new creation tools, taking out that barrier between creativity and practical application I cant wait to see what they have in store for us next.

And Team ICO. I think Last Guardian is a PS4 game now and I think it will come sooner rather than later. Think about it, I think they made that decision long ago knowing it would mean they skipped the PS3 generation completely. They need to come out hard and justify their existence. A triple A title on PS4 will just make everyone forget about the long wait.

And all of this will be just the first 2 years of a near decade long reign for PS4.
