Hands-on with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn | Daily Joypad

Daily Joypad writes: With the Phase 3 closed beta drawing to a close, my Lalafell Lancer reached the dizzying heights of level 25 in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Version 1.0 of this game was, to put it politely, a mediocre experience at best with several elements puzzlingly difficult to the point of agonising trials with so many broken mechanics. In 2011, Yoichi Wada, the then CEO of Square Enix, openly admitted that the failures in Final Fantasy XIV tarnished the Final Fantasy franchise; the game was simply not ready for prime time. To that end, FF XIV was given a massive overhaul to produce something that Final Fantasy fans have been longing for. With A Realm Reborn, the game world has been changed so drastically that it can barely be recognised but the changes are a welcome one.

Saksoy3928d ago

why do you need head start when you can only level up for 8 hours a week lol

Coltrane_C3928d ago

Where on earth does it say that at?

Pain3928d ago

I dont need a head start all my Jobs @50 aside from crafts i just want to get most of the pre rec story quests out of the way so i can just focus on the lvl 50 stuff.

smartin1023928d ago

thats an article from 3 years ago talking about FFXIV 1.0 before they scrapped it and restarted with A Realm Reborn. A Realm Reborn has done away with that.

JAMurida3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

"Justin Towell on ***June 23, 2012***"

Old article, game isn't like that now.

EDIT: Guy said what needed to be said before me.

And yeah, 3 years. Put wrong date in.

Saksoy3928d ago

Nice to know, was putting me off from buying it.
Does anyone know whats the level cap is this time round?

frankiebeans3928d ago

I dont like it I was playing on ps3 something about that game just dont feel righT. I like the gameplay of ffxi better

Dno3928d ago

ff11 is to old, doesn't have new features other MMOs have and the population is really bad. With no Dungeon finder you are still sitting in town shouting so people can party up and in a game where u need a party for EVERYTHING it makes for a bad time which is why the game never gets new people to play.

FF14 is light years better.

AzureskyZ3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

I hope its nothing like the original ff14-- i bought the collectors edition and that game was the biggest piece of crap i ever played-- i want to give it another go but im keeping it at an arms length until i get more feedback.

@ For those of you playing the beta, what do you think? is it the same as last time ?

Dno3928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

Or you can just try it for free if you really bought the game you can log on and play lol.

Edit:
Everyone who purchased the game has access to the beta since beta phase 2. There is gonna be 4 beta phases and an open beta all of these periods are free play. We are currently waiting for phase 4 which starts next month. Every character was transferred from ff14 1.0 to the current ff14 2.0

Edit 2
Coming from someone who has played ff11 for 6 years I have to say the game is awesome, story, graphics,(oh the graphics) setting, content all are top notch. You would have to look hard to find faults in the game.

AzureskyZ3928d ago

Dont they charge 15.00 per month though -- or dont you need to be invited for the beta-- i wasnt aware that i can just use my old login to access the game.

Zephyrus343928d ago (Edited 3928d ago )

@AzureskyZ If you already had the game when it was 1.0, it's only 9.99/mo with 8 chars per serv, as for me, i gotta pay 11.99 for 1 char per serv since i just got into this.

Nevers3928d ago

I've been in the PS3 beta since we were allowed in and I played FFxi for years. FFxiv ARR is really really fun. Definitely has me hooked.

fullmetal1563928d ago

@azureskyz man its nothing like 1.0 the battle system is so blazing that it keeps you on your toes, theres practically no downtime u fight fight fight and it doesnt get repetitive SE did a great job at balancing the game, i made it to lvl 31 in phase 3 and i dont even care if my char gets wiped lol i cant wait. (Ps i skipped the story till the game launches :)

AzureskyZ3928d ago

It good to hear they overhauled it-- what about the bazaar system-- trying to find someone to repair your shit or finding an ingredient was pain in the ass-- also do they cap your time or level per class?

fullmetal1563928d ago

The bazaar system was up but not fully integrated yet it did do a good job at finding the items by class and level and craft way better but i don't think people in phase 3 use it much and as far and they do not cap your class or level i went from 1 to like 20 in 1 night lol

Xbox Profanity Filter Is Ruining the FFXIV Chat

The Xbox profanity filter is currently ruining the readability of the FFXIV chat on Xbox Series X/S due to censored words.

Lol, damn... At this point, they were better off keeping FF XIV away from Xbox. It has been nothing but obstacle, after obstacle.

gold_drake13d ago

wanted to say the exact same thjng.

VenomUK12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

What happens if you say things that used to get you banned on Twitter e.g. 'a man can't be a woman'?

RedDevils12d ago

*insert gift*
"Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina."

12d ago
DivineHand12513d ago

I'm not convinced this is the profanity filter. It doesn't make sense to censor words like class, harvest and dance. It seems to be a bug.

12d ago
TheGamingHounds12d ago

Well, FF14 itself has some pretty awful chat censoring so Xbox being in the same boat isn't too farfetched

Eidolon12d ago

it censored the S T D in "harvest dance" and I bet the A S S in class. I know this because of Runescape

Aphrodia13d ago

Yeah these new fangled filters are going a bit too far. I have a game that filters "wtf". It's a censor for a self-censoring phrase. But I think overall it's how it should be. If you don't want certain language being used in your game by your player base, then it's up to you to filter/ censor the language you don't want. I can respect that. What I can't respect is when you say things that are not really offensive then you get ostracized for it.

shinoff218312d ago

What happened to just reporting people

NOMATICENIGMA13d ago

This is completely false, I tested this on my son's child account and mine, this is not Microsoft censoring they will censor swears but not the combination of letters I can prove this with a screenshot where I use all mentioned words in the article but do not know how to upload a picture.

NOMATICENIGMA12d ago

You can all continue your bashing, I was wrong someone explained to me this is a new policy, that's why it only happens for me in this brand new release. I'll try latter on ps to confirm but their response seemed informed wich leaves me rather worried for future censorship on my xbox.

CrimsonWing6913d ago

Geezus, Xbox, you get gifted gold and still f*ck things up.

NOMATICENIGMA12d ago

It's not xbox, go ahead start a chat with the youngest person on your friends list then say raid mass class sass said .... they do not censor any of these I even got away with R.Aids. sqaure on the other hand does.

CrimsonWing6912d ago

Does this affect PC and PS4/PS5 users, too? Or is it only happening on Xbox?

Final Fantasy XIV Players On Xbox Are Receiving Console Bans For Seeking Free Company

That's wild. I'm guessing someone in a position of power is VERY opposed to sharing resources.
Is this not happening on other platforms? It really seems like this game is a very unpleasant experience on Xbox the more you hear about it.

The question is... Is this Microsoft just looking to make more money on micro transactions, or is Square sabotaging the Xbox version? I really don't understand this.

willko12d ago

most of the issues are coming from Microsoft.

-Microsoft has insisted on having their own special "currency" called FFXIV Coins that you have to buy and use to pay your subscription if Xbox is the only platform you have FFXIV on. The problem though is that they don't sell coins in increments to pay for just one month at a time. You have no choice but to overpay and have coins left over.

-Microsoft's chat censorship is meddling with the in-game chat log by censoring ridiculous things as well as pieces of other words if that word contains a naughty word such as "class" being censored to "cl???".

-Microsoft refused to make an exception of requiring players to pay for a Game Pass subscription to play the game online. Therefore, Xbox players are the only ones required to pay for two subscriptions since PlayStation made an exception for this game and doesn't require PSN+.

-However, Square refused to budge on one of their policies as well which negatively affects Xbox players. Due to the way Square insists on tying the game purchase to your Square Enix account, it makes FFXIV the one and only Xbox game I'm aware of that does not support Xbox's Game Sharing feature. Each and every gamertag that wants to play the game will need to have its own purchase registered, even if they're all using the same physical console.

JBlaze22612d ago

I feel it's Square sabotaging Xbox. It' just don't add up
