OPM: The PS4 could be the time for an RPG renaissance with 14 impressive looking games heading to next gen. Here’s an impressive list of big budget MMOs, niche JRPGs, mainstream stat counters and, of course, Final Fantasy.

Mike, the guy who is running the Soul Saga JRPG game said that he is getting rid of the chibi models (average body big head)

Yes but it still needs more Traditional Turn based RPG's.

A lot of those looked similar in graphics because they are trying to look "real".

Any game trying to look real, won't. Looking at all games who tried this, they look very dated now.

EVERY single one of them.

Games like Wind Waker on the other hand, still look good today because they went for a unique art style.

That is why I prefer Art Style to HD "real" graphics.

That being said, these games all look good even though I'm only interested in Destiny, Soul saga, Cyberpunk and a few others. About half of them. But still great to know they are on their way.

FF14 looks interesting as well, and Planetside 2 is fun on the PC when you have nothing to play.

It's the purpose it will serve on the PS4, being that "In between releases" game.

Can you imagine EVERY PS4 game (except for maybe the Move exclusive ones) playable on Vita?? That idea just fills me with so much happiness!! I hope the frame rate don't drop (or at least don't drop too much), and the controls still feel fine.

But I'm still more pumped for DSII than any other game.

I hope we get a dragon's dagma 2 on ps3. That was an awesome game.

I think Capcom will make Deep Down almost like DD. But, yea I want a DD on either PS3/PS4, just as long as they make one with a longer story.

Nice list even though i'm only interested with Cyberpunk 2077, The Witcher 3, Soul Saga, Deep Down, KH 3, and FF XV.

But i'm really curious what Level 5, Atlus, NIS, Namco, or Falcom gonna works for PS4. Hopefully they're working on Dark Cloud 3 / new Ni no Kuni, Persona 5 / 6, Disgaea 5, new Tales, and maybe new Ys.

Not to mention, Sony also had a lot of RPG that need a revive such as The Legend of Dragoon, Legend of Legaia, Alundra, Arc of the Lad, Okage: Shadow King, and Wild Arms. Maybe Sony can snap Breath of Fire IP from Capcom and Suikoden IP from Konami so they can make BoF & Suikoden VI for PS4. Well, a man can dreams right? ^^

My mind just exploded at the thought of a new Dark Cloud game ... I loved that game. I would also love to see a new Breath of Fire on the consoles or XenoSAGA. A FrontMission game like FM 1-5, not that FM:Evolved crap.

I've spend hundreds of hours in Dark Cloud 1, just to explore the dungeons so i can collected the Atla and rebuild the villages in georama system. It's really addictive. Don't know why Sony not making Dark Cloud 3 for PS3. But i will buy Dark Cloud 1 & 2 if Sony release them for PSN.

And yes, hopefully SE will make another Front Mission with SRPG style from their internal studio. Double Helix made a big mess up with Evolved. I don't want to hear their names again in any Front Mission games :(

But i don't know about Steambot Chronicles. Irem already closed their game division right? It's really sad, because i've waited Disaster Report 4 and Steambot Chronicles 2. But Irem canceled those game because the earthquake T_T
Hopefully Sony or someone pick those IP and continue the project...

True that the Suikoden developing team are scattered within Konami, however they did release a PSP version of the game. Konami needs to bring back Yoshitaka Murayama, we need more jrpg this upcoming gen.

This is god news I suppose ,Sony needs more RPG'S ,exclusive RPGS for that matter on their systems, I remember the PS1 and PS2 were like an RPG Mecca, that's what I think of when I think of the PS1, JRPG'S , What happened ?

I'm a big BoF fans and i think Dragon Quarter isn't that bad. The gameplay still fun to play and challenging. And i understand if some people don't really like the overlay scenario and D-Counter that limit of how much we use Ryu's dragon form.

Not to mention the setting also very different from the previous BoF.

But i think all BoF fans must be agree that Dragon Quarter music are top notch, because two legendary composer (and my fav too): Hitoshi Sakimoto and Yasunori Mitsuda are working together to composed Dragon's Quarter music.

I agree with you, dragon quarter works moderately as a game but not so much as an addition to the series. I found bof 3's music to be the highlight of the series I still get it in my head sometimes to this day.

I have a feeling, we are going to see a lot of quality RPG's this gen , due to the development simplicity, and raw power of the Ps4,.. hopefully it can reach golden age status.
