The best videogame stories ever

GamesRadar - Games are meant to be played, but ever since Donkey Kong introduced a story with a beginning, middle, and an end, the digital medium has slowly recognized its potential for storytelling as well. Over time the writing has improved, better graphics have allowed for more interesting techniques, and every now and then a game pushed the boundaries of just how mature a story could be. By this point gaming is undeniably a storytelling medium, and we’ve experienced some incredible stories in our history of gaming.

I agree with the list, especially the number 1. However, It misses Shadow of the Colossus, Xenogears and Beyond Good and Evil, in my opinion.

Red Dead's story up until the last 2 hours was pretty much nonexistent and what was there, a man doing favors for idiots, was utterly stupid like the majority of most R* stories. All their characters begin by doing nonsensical favors for random idiots for a good 20-30 hours before any real story.

But Red Dead Redemption's ending was good.

Having Torment that low on the list is a joke. The list itself is agreeable enough though.

I second that, while many games have a twist, that ending was something I never thought was going to happen. I knew it could happen but I never thought they would have the balls to do that to us

Good list, but I gotta disagree with both Assassin's Creed 2 and ME2

Pretty much the one thing every single review about ME2 said was that the main story was weak. The Collector plot is basically a giant side mission that has no effect on the main Reaper plot.

The game's characters, and more specifically their loyalty missions, were where the good stuff was found, the main story was not.

In terms of Assassin's Creed 2, I can't even see why it'd be on this list. The plot had more holes than Ezio's victims. It was a great setting and the sandbox world and gameplay mechanics were fun, but the plot got REALLY stupid later on.

Most of this list is current gen titles. The only good games were SH2, and MGS3, still, no MGS2 = fail list.

No MGS2 in the list is a complete fail, it just means he didnt understand the story. A lot of people didnt.

Always wanted to play Planescape torment. They really need to bring that thing to the Vita or at least ios.

Bioshock should be number 1. Jeez. Dark Souls should also dominate the list, but the story isn't really told to you. The lore is awesome, though.
