Hardware and price
and then i look at the first party studios and what they offer or will offer and multiplat games

and Sony got all those things

ShugaCane3939d ago

For me it's the games, and games only. A console can have tons of revolutionnary features, I'll never buy it if it has no game I'm interested in. On the other hand, if a console has only one feature : Playing games, but offers good games and franchises that I like, then I'll buy that one for sure.

mewhy323939d ago

I think that it's really a combination of both for the hardcore informed gamer and just games for the casual uninformed gamer. If you don't really know about hardware specs then hardware really doesn't matter. But if you know anything about hardware then you want the most power for you money.

Utalkin2me3939d ago

I agree. But for some people it is restrictive policies and the lack of what consumers want. Err.... wait it's not restrictive policies and try to keep up with the Jones.

"For me it's the games, and games only."

So your still playing on the playstation 1 then? Since you said hardware doesn't matter.

For me, the crux is neither software nor hardware (though of course those play a role).

My #1 concern is the company's track record. The hardware might be super-powerful, but does the company have a track record of making reliable consoles, or do their consoles break? There might be more than a dozen launch titles in the first year, but does the company have a track record of supporting the console over the long haul? Does the company have a track record of creating new IPs or just milking the same old IPs?

FanboyCrusher3939d ago

a company's track record? Are you serious? You may as well say I'm a fanboy and I'm never open to change. I also never take into account that Sony had a monopoly on the industry and that it was hard far anyone to get in with a console, especially with the PS2. When somebody has a lot longer to acquire studios, and experience in general, of course they're going to do well, but we're going to dismiss other company's because of that? You're pathetic. You aren't dedicated to gamers, you're dedicated to kissing Sony's ass.

dedicatedtogamers3939d ago

Wow, what an overreaction. Where did I even mention Sony?

I've been a PC gamer since MS-DOS. I've owned consoles and handhelds from Sony, SEGA, SNK, Nintendo, Atari, Microsoft, and Commodore.

So, yeah. Keep on trollin'

If history's proven anything its software.

Doctor_Freeman3939d ago

Both

Can't have one without the other.

Tsar4ever013938d ago

Sony is best & owns the HARDWARE front, Microsoft has the best experience & controls the SOFTWARE front. Their the perfect competing polar opposites companies that actually need each others *specialties to succeed and win over the masses. Especially since both consoles being allot more than just gaming devices.

People will decide which console is best with their wallets, word of mouth & the internet.

Thepharaoh3939d ago

Software obviously. If it weren't for software we would be unable t communicate with the console in the first place. Besides who wants to buy a overpowered box if it doesn't have any thing worth powering it up for?I'd be like buying a retarded horse in your current town when there isn't a single race track for miles

JBSleek3939d ago

Software. What's good hardware without software.

But good software can help hardware.

Microsoft Seemingly Closes Bethesda France

As part of its plans to cut 1,900 jobs, Microsoft has reportedly shut down operations at Bethesda France, letting go roughly 15 people

Hereandthere7h ago

Microsoft should have left them stay 3rd party

GamerRN5h ago

If they are let go, they can be whatever they want. They ARE 3rd party now... 🤦

Barlos2h ago

Yeah, they're also jobless.

PassNextquestion7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger5h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Profchaos7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto6h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos6h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long3h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel5h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator5h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.

Sony Could Increase Your Game's Difficulty If It Sees You Complain About It

Sony has recently published a new patent that wants to dynamically handle the games' difficulty and gameplay based on the player's emotions.

jznrpg8h ago

This is something I might use. Sometimes I play some good games but they don’t have difficulty option and are a little too easy.

Profchaos7h ago

Souls games will be like that players struggling make it harder

PassNextquestion7h ago(Edited 7h ago)

I think if used correctly it could work well

jambola3h ago

cool idea
cool idea for horror games especially
the way it's explained here sounds like it could never be forced hopefully, so that's ok with me

PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher

With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?

thorstein4d ago

No, and they already solved any need with the overlay that's coming.

Vits4d ago

Unless they are trying to kill their recently created PC business, I would advise against opening a dedicated PC store. It's an extremely hard endeavor, and people, in general, are very comfortable with Steam. Even Epic, with their billions of dollars invested, is still struggling to find a foothold, and they have Fortnite.

just_looken3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Money is one thing security is another but again millions have 0 knowledge past 2020.

Epic store for years struggled with a shopping cart/account theft/credit card theft

Rockstar launcher/store to this day over 5 years later still has horrific user interface security flaws lost account's and stolen CC

Then you got that activision need phone number oh we lost it launcher

The crown jewel is the ea launcher/store ea app 3 yrs old still has hundreds of threads were people lost games/accounts/game access or just straight up crashes.

Edit" Oh ubi launcher were you buy a game that may or may not be there again or work and the launcher 5yrs old still has no 4K support if you launch it on a 4k screen there is a high chance it will just crash.

ocelot073d ago

Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming.

It's just a known fact. The PC gaming community prefer Steam and Steam alone. They don't like different launchers. I personally don't mind them. But majority just stick with steam. Hence why EA and Ubisoft went back to on releasing on steam and why Microsoft release games on steam as people hated buying from the windows store.

The only other launchers that I imagine are doing ok is GOG due to being drm free and epic games due to the free games every week. Sony shouldn't release any sort of pc launcher n

Nitrowolf23d ago (Edited 3d ago )

It literally says in the OP that PC gamers don't like multiple launchers lol. It even mentions Steam being the go to for gamers

Tacoboto3d ago

Title: "PlayStation Doesn't Need a Dedicated PC Store Launcher"

N4G: "Can tell who ever put this together is not all that clued up on pc gaming"

When you don't even read the headline...

ocelot073d ago

I read it and had a brain fart. As read the title then this "With all the PlayStation games that are now coming to PC, is it time for Sony to release a dedicated PC launcher?"

So I hold my hands up on that mistake. Rest of my comment still stands.

Giblet_Head3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Steam and GOG are highly preferred because of the rich feature set. Ubisoft, Rockstar, EA, Epic etc have all set a precedent over the years for customers to instinctively expect individual publisher launchers to be so extremely half-assed that the majority simply don't want to bother dealing with what is almost an inevitable disappointment by comparison to Steam or GOG. Those publishers and their inaction or general disinterest to improve have effectively ruined any future adoption to be taken seriously.

Einhander19723d ago (Edited 3d ago )

This is just another ridiculous double standard article.

It's like how Microsoft can spend 20 years of making nothing but gaas and live service style games to sell microtransactions, dlc and subscriptions and get praise for doing it, but if Sony wants to make a single game like that every website under the sun is writing articles saying how Sony is anti-consumer or whatever.

derek3d ago

Yep, huge double standard look at the tortured reaction to the ps5pro, websites hyperventilating like Sony is forcing people to buy it.

just_looken3d ago

Wait my xbox from 2004 has avengers gaas on it? wow your so smart

m$ Gaas started with the other companies like sony

Gamepass yes they are deep into that but its still a huge money saver sense you do not own your games then get a service like that.

Now there pc xbox launcher that is trash for years now
