PlayStation 4 fans flock to sign petition demanding return of controversial Xbox One features

The petition is seeking 15,000 signatures and has already accumulated nearly 13,000. However, many of the signatures “supporting” the petition appear to be from PlayStation 4 fans who want the Xbox One to fail.

The petition is a parody (or at least, became a parody because the idea is so unpopular). No one is trying to "fool" Microsoft into bringing it back. Gamers have spoken and they are speaking again; we do NOT want DRM.

It was XBOX fans themselves who wanted those features announced at E3 back, such as the Family Share plan.
Whatever the top comments said is not proof that those votes belong to PS fans. The majority are from XBOX fans.

Even here on N4G, there were XBOX fans defending those policies and even complained when Microsoft reversed their policies because it removed those features. I'm sure it's not the DRM they want back, but the features.

It's just funny that whenever Microsoft messes up somehow Sony and PlayStation fans are to blame and be hated on.

As a playstation fan, I was against the policies, I'm glad they removed them, I would never sign a petition that brought them to any console.
MS went about there idea the wrong way, they should have done a better job showing all the positives, but there mouth pieces stumbled every chance they had. MS is solely to blame for there recent struggles, but the XB1 has sold out most places you can pre order them, and a majority of those orders came after the policies were removed.
My guess is PS4 wins the next gen, but that being said at this point don't count MS out, they have massive marketing planed I'm sure... Even Nintendo can claim victory if they start marketing the damn Wii U

Games would be available to people on your friends list any were in the world.

Games would be constantly updated and while you play the game the CLOUD would have been streaming more details into the gaming world.

Developers would have made more money out of games and which in turn would push up the quality of games.

Now what i didnt agree with is how difficult they made it to trade in games. But honestly with the whole family sharing thing i don't think it would have been an issue.

BUT. While i personally thought it was a good idea. I also don't think it should be done this generation.

While the majority of people in the richer areas on the planet such as parts of Europe and America have the ability to have a constant internet connection. There is still more people who don't have this ability.

I think anyone who is complaining about all the features on the DRM X1 either don't understand what it would have actually meant for gaming or is simply hating for the sake of hating

But i also agree with people complaining about the fact they simply wouldn't have been able to play it.

MICROSOFT did a truly terrible job explaining the real important's of the DRM features.

I think if they had shown us right off the bat why DRM would have truly been worth the restrictions. Such as doing demonstrations showing games running with and without the cloud. So we could see how much better the game looked.

They should have demonstrated the Family sharing at their E3 conference.

The only time we ever really heard of the features that made the DRM worth the effort was when they announced it was removed.

Overall. DRM would have been amazing, If the world was ready for it and IF Microsoft had done a better job introducing and explaining it.

That's EXACTLY why it was a stupid idea. You're not outdoing piracy or used sales by making EVERY copy of the game available to 10 people.
Furthermore, Microsoft even told us; if you can't connect every 24 hours, get an Xbox 360. That would have left lots of gamers in the cold.

DRM, is a stupid idea because DRM has no advantages to the consumer. Please don't delude yourself into thinking any of it was for the consumer. It was to control all sales of games by funneling used sales through the hoops MS had planned for.

DRM and cloud computing had nothing to do with eachother.

You say what the family share plan would have been like. How do you know? Did MS reveal it in detail in private? They had every opportunity to show that. When they first revealed the console they didn't even mention it in any of the press follow ups. Not a one. If this was a real feature they would have explained it in detail. Did it ever occur to you that they didn't really have anything to properly explain?

And lastly, why on Earth would any rational, logical human being reach the conclusion that a company that was choosing where you could sell your games, dictating whom you could give you game away to and limiting that action to ONE TIME would be OK with you sharing ONE game with 10 people without any restrictions?

It makes no sense because A) it was not real or B) it had heavy restrictions that go beyond playing one at a time.

PS4 lets you share disc based games as expected and you can still log in on your account on another persons PS4 and download and play your games with your account.

MicroSoft just doesn't compromise for the consumer. They compromised for themselves. If they couldn't control shared games they could control your account access more.

PS4 does the updating while playing a game. It isn't any sort of advanced online system required for that. Just a server.

Developers would have made more money? No proof behind that. Sharing a game itself with someone will make them want to buy the game just as much as someone not getting to borrow your game will make them want to buy it. Sometimes less or more.

You don't understand family sharing.

The fact you thought X1 would have been like Steam was to PC gaming just voids your words. PS+ is an example of Steam-like features for a console. Great deals for games. Not to mention you can play plenty f2p games on PS4. Not to mention all the indie support on PS4.

This article is actually extremely misleading. I actually went to change.org to see how they got this information. Yes there are "Sony Fanboys" signing it but no where does it show statistics on how many have signed it or if most are made up of fake signatures. Than when they removed those features "PS4 fans" were glad because they were under the impression that "the future of gaming is saved". At that time "Xbone fans" were upset and were claiming that the feature removed was revolutionary and they would take that game sharing over used games any day of the week and the dumb "PS4 fans" screwed it up for them.

This is right sad - I've always preferred the PlayStation consoles to the others (although I've often had some of the others as well, and currently have a PS3, 360 and PC), but I want _all_ gamers to have a good time, no matter what platform they're on.

I have no idea if I'll eventually get an XB1 or not (will depend on their exclusives, and it wouldn't be for a few years) but I was still saddened by MS' ham-fisted reveal and approach because I know millions of gamers will get an XB1, and I sure as hell want them to have a good time.

I think friendly competition between the systems is healthy (spurs innovation, helps encourage new ideas), similar to a friendly sporting rivalry, but I wouldn't want Microsoft to disappear in gaming any more than I would want a 'nemesis' football club to stop playing. I also wouldn't want things to go all 'soccer violence' either. Don't sabotage the XB1, because if you do you're sabotaging gaming.

Both consoles are going to be great so I don't know what the fuss is about. I picture the rivalry between the next-gen to be equivalent to what it is now: Both systems offer something the other doesn't, therefore are better than the other in their own ways. However, Sony is definitely making the effort to be more user friendly this time around. But MS has made a great console, too. Both of them will run amazingly, no doubt. Perhaps the Xbox will run even a bit better, with all of the servers that have been added. Only time will tell. But don't let me get in the way of you're crazy accusations. While registering disc based games did come a bit early for consoles, the features tied with DRM was welcome by me. Getting to give your friends your downloaded games, gold sharing, and a few others.

Why not compromise? DRM with digital purchases and the tried and true system with disc games? Or even an opt in for DRM with discounts? Much like the discount for opting into PS+ or XBL Gold?

With Xbox One, I see it pointless to own disc copies. You have to install the full disc, and all retail games will be available on the digital market if reports are to be considered accurate.

With DRM, the developers can ensure that only one console can use the item. With Xbox 360, it was always two. With PS4 it was four, then three, and now two. If the developers can be assured that only one person can use one purchase, it is likely to see price drop. Unless you are talking about Activision. The true pigs of the industry.

There is no one stopping you or anyone else from going mostly digital now, there was no need for any of the other nonsense that MS was pulling.

At the most they could have made digital copies that come with a special license to stop sharing with multiple people, online checks wouldn't be needed, and if done right you could still do that whole family thing they were talking about.

I didn't say that no gamer wants to go digital, I said I personally don't, but don't mind the occasional copy. All digital is just asking for something to go wrong(dead hard drive=severe problem), plus it takes up far too much space. DRM is what isn't welcome, at least not in the form MS was offering. And key point is console. PC gaming is irrelevant as far as this discussion goes, the two are completely different beasts. The sad thing is that people think the verbal backlash from the internet was the reason why they did the reversal. It was because of the low pre-orders. They saw how bad it was tracking and they made the right decision. No amount of signatures, real or otherwise are going to counter those numbers and this decision.

The media helped educate and make the Xbox One as unappealing as it was. If all of these proponents of the original, horrible policy would have pre-ordered the Xbox One and those numbers were significant, they wouldn't have budged. Yep, and people don't realise competition = inovation. If there would be no competition, there would be no improvments or advancments in anything. Companies put their best foot forward and offer a lot more value to comsumers in order to outdo the competition. We need competition between companies if we are going to see any growth in the market. All my ranting is rooted on the fact MS has made really bad choices on how to educate and reach out to their consumers thus pissing people off and causing some loyal fans to question if they really want to invest something in MS..

Going out of the way to hurt one company in order to make things easier for another is not a good formula for growth.

It may have been better for people if MS came out with their vision way before they offically presented the console. I want the Xbox One to fail because I think it's inaugurating a new generation of gaming based on complete consumer disregard and exploitative corporatism. DRM means even more power to what are already enormously powerful corporations. It means control over their profits to an unprecedented degree. It means periodical surcharges and licencing fees. It potential then means having to re-buy a game after its licence expires. That's just extortion. Couple that with what we've learned about Microsoft's involvement with the NSA and you get data-mining too. The invasion of privacy for the sake of selling and distributing the minutiae of information to do with you across the world. Is nothing sacred? Far too much is being sucked into the orbit of "profit" and "monetisation". You need to be more critical about this. Corporations already have far too much power and are almost invariably involved in some manner of ulterior, shady practice. Be it surveillance and data-mining, or wage slavery and the exploitation of impoverished countries.

You can't fall into their trap and just lap up all the shiny products they push in your face. You've got to realise that there's a line where you have to stop caring about these products and think beyond the consumer subjectivity.

I think every smart gamer should sign this petition. Somebody needs to tell Microsoft, loud and clear, that their consumer base is not stupid, and that you cannot push for features that nobody's going to want and then flippantly change them when everyone catches on to their stupidity. Microsoft's behaviour clearly shows that Microsoft will try and trick everybody in the future. The gaming industry no longer has room for this business practice, especially with declining console use vs pc use.
