World of Tanks - the game that'll keep Xbox 360 vibrant for years?

Tanks aren't cute, as a rule. They're hideous, ungainly death-machines, designed to weather the ravages of trench warfare - proof against bullets and emotions alike. You're not supposed to want to cuddle them. You're not supposed to want to take one home and pet it, like a mislaid hamster. Yet somehow, that's exactly how I feel about the lumbering cast of World of Tanks, Wargaming.net's colossal free-to-play tactical shooter, which makes its debut on Xbox 360 later this summer.

No game can sustain a console for years and especially not a game that is already on PC

The people who get this most likely don't game on PC, so it doesn't matter. I would say BF4 is going to keep people around for longer than this game. Most people aren't PC gamers nor going next-gen this year (even though I am).

I'm going to argue that some games have a following loyal enough and passionate enough that they do everything they can to preserve the experience.

I'm thinking of Tribes 2 on PC specifically, so maybe it's true that a console cannot be sustained historically... but with XB Live & PS+ the ability to match make could more easily be supported long after the console's have been phased out.

Minecraft is another example of a PC game, with availability on console, that I believe could extend the life span of the 360. Consoles provide some people, who may not have a computer powerful enough to run the game, the opportunity to play.

Quake 3 is another that sustains a loyal following for a while too.

Because it's a on a Microsoft Console?

Or, because you disagree that a popular free-to-play game utilizing micro transactions housed on a multiplayer network that will be supported for at least a decade has no chance to add any value and re-playability for gamers?

Because its a F2P title on a platform you have to pay to access. That might be acceptable now, but will it down the line when that one F2P title will be the only reason to keep the console and then have to pay for access.

The 360 won't be "vibrant" for even a month after the Xbox One is launched. It's already had maybe one decent game in the past 2 years, and all the Xbox supporters are playing this off as "they're focusing on the One now".

Blachek3933d ago

I agree that as a micro ftp it won't sell an xbox, but it certainly would get it turned on once in a while... especially when the same subscription that is paid for it now will continue long after the console is no longer found on store shelves.

The 360 will absolutely be "vibrant" after the Xbox One has launched. A lot of gamers won't be making the switch to the next Gen right away. Especially at the high price points, manufacturing hiccups, and small game library.

I personally will be waiting around a year before I do anything, In that time I'll be picking up some games that will keep the 360 relevant for me. Much like many other gamers around the world.

I like the game on PC, but it is so money grubbing and screws you over especially with crew training and moving crews to other tanks.

i found the game to be more clunky on xbox then pc, but for a ftp game i wasn't expecting much.

Escape from Tarkov and War Thunder devs keep silent about the Ukraine War, still on Russian market

From Babel UA: "With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, sanctions against the aggressor also affected the video game industry. The largest game publishers — Ubisoft, EA Games, Rockstar — have limited sales of their products in Russia and Belarus. And Steam, GOG and Epic Games stores have stopped accepting payments in rubles. But Russian players have already learned to circumvent the bans of publishers and shops — there are many instructions about how to do this on the Internet. The situation with the game developers of the aggressor countries is even more complicated. Many of them are not officially Russian or Belarusian, but have long opened offices in Europe and work from Britain, Hungary, and other countries. Russian developers usually donʼt comment on Russiaʼs aggression against Ukraine, continue to cooperate with Western companies and sell their games to Western players. Babel tells about the games Escape from Tarkov, World of Tanks, and War Thunder, which are popular in Europe and the United States, and about the behavior of their developers, who deliberately do not publicly state their position on the war or order advertising from outspoken supporters of the Putin regime."
