PS4 Outsells Xbox One on Amazon As Launch Day Stock Runs Out

In similar fashion to GameStop, Amazon has announced on their that they’ve sold out of both PS4 Launch and Xbox One Day One Editions.

it depend how much stock they had/were given unless we know that the consoles selling out could mean anything it could mean they sold out of the 20 consoles they had or the 20,000 consoles they had. regardless these constant updates on pre-order sales are getting out of hand and are losing relevance if people are really that interested its the first-day sales they should be looking at

It wasn't until they announced they were reversing all the DRM and always online did XBone start to really do pre-orders. If XBone pre-order sales figures were good we wouldn't have seen the 180 of all the new hardware policies and requirements.

One also has to consider the reports of the XB1's launch unit allocation being held back by manufacturing issues (rumored to be ESRAM issues). I'm not sure if those were ever verified, but it makes you wonder how much of each system Amazon was allocated for launch day.

Me too. I never pre order because its not like launch editions will make me willy bigger, and chicks won't care. But the PS4 had me blushing and I want to be the only one of my friends and family with a PS4 the same day it comes out so that I can show it off on my very nice TVs so they too can witness greatness and then run out and buy one too. They still think "Xbox is t3h best bro" but they can't give me any valid reasons why. I must inform them. It is my duty to educate gamers on the evils of M$.

Believe it or not....there are some people who still think Xbox One was outselling PS4 on Amazon simply because Xbox One was #1 on the Amazon weekly charts for a couple of weeks. They are completely ignoring the fact that Amazon was selling 5 different PS4 bundles and 4 out of 5 bundles sold out (compared with Xbox One which is only selling 1 bundle and it still hasn't sold out). Either way, kudos to Sony for getting the message out that PS4 is for gamers first. These fantastic sales charts prove the people are listening.

@midnighter20c - ok, according to your logic....we are to assume all of the hundreds of thousands of pre-ordered PS4 consoles don't mean anything on Amazon because every single one of them will be canceled. I dont see that happening and i dont think Sony is too worried about losing a few cancelations.

It's no doubt that US market is the biggest but Sony has done well regaining some of that with PS4 demand. Also world wide playstation brand sells a lot better so in a way it evens out

It use to be that Xbox 360 would sell great in states and Sony done well overseas so it evened out, but now if ps4 is doing well in states plus overseas than Xbox one won't be as strong

A perfect example is the snarky "how to share games on the PS4" video. Or the way Microsoft changed policies just to better compete with the PS4. This is what makes the industry aspect of games great. Games can be great separately from the industry and business aspect.

I'm guess the ratio is going to be pretty similar through all retailers, so I would say this is strong evidence to Sony having more available at launch. Plus they have all of the Launch Bundles, which adds even more to the launch stock.

I wonder how quick the turnaround will be to get the follow up shipments to stores for people that did not get theirs on launch day.

@Wedge19... ultimately its hard to say for three reasons:

1) We know MS is launching in 21 regions world wide at launch but don't know specifically where and we don't know specifically what regions Sony is launching in at launch other than N. America.

2) We don't know how many units each region is being allocated at launch either. If Sony is putting more units into the US but less elsewhere it will skew how numbers look...and like wise for MS.

3) We don't know how many units were allocated to specific retailers. If Sony gave more to Amazon than Best Buy or Walmart, etc...

BUT.... for Amazon specifically you can pretty safely say that Sony has sold more launch day units than MS given the have a 2013 Best Seller list and the PS4 is at 3rd place and Xbox One at 6th for "2013 so far".

We don't need exact numbers.

We can look at how things are "selling," the rates at which they sell, and determine things. PS4 repeatedly selling out in the time it took XBOne to sell out once on Amazon- and the fact that it's reported to have higher sales prior to that- is one indicator.

The same is happening at other big retailers, such as GameStop. And if it's happening at the largest game retailer, it's most likely happening everywhere else, too.

Um, you might want to re-check your eyes. The standard x1 is in the top 100 at 53.
And for the past few weeks, the day 1 edition of x1 was in the top 1-5 for a while. It was only when gamestop ran out of ps4 pre-orders when the ps4 pre-orders jumped on the amazon chart.

Also, I thought we here at n4g were not going to approve submissions about product placements on the amazon best-sellers chart anymore.... Or does that only apply to events when the x1 is at a higher place than the ps4??

The launch edition PS4 system was actually in the number one position for about a week or so after E3. It sold out shortly after and is currently at number 3 on the best sellers of 2013 list.

Look up on pre-order allocation numbers and you will know he's right. Most retailers have PS4 allocations at 5-7 times the amount of X1. This means the sales gap at launch will be pretty significant.

I have your facts, at least regarding Amazon. Quickly referring to the "best sellers of 2013" list shows the launch PS4 is in 3rd rank and the X1 is in 6th rank. So according to Amazon's total sellers list, more people have preordered the PS4 launch system. Which is more impressive since the launch PS4 sold out a week after E3 and the X1 only recently became out of stock.

A fanboy would state Xbox sold out first, which doesn't say much considering the allocation of Xbox Ones were something like 16 per store, while PS4 had 60. It's far too early to tell which will be the "winner" of the next gen, besides, the only winners are Sony and Microsoft. Play what YOU like because flaming a fan of the competitors console never changed anyone's mind.
That said, I have 2 Xbox Ones on preorder and a Playstation 4. If you don't preorder SOON, you're gonna be S.O.L. This isn't like Madden where stores have dozens of copies the next day. If you were a gamer when 360 came out, stores didn't start getting them in stock till around EASTER of the next year. Wii was the same, if not worse, and PS3 was hard to come by too.
