After some off-again, on-again drama over the past few days, it looks as if Nintendo is going to allow organizers to stream footage of the Super Smash Bros. portion of this weekend's Vegas EVO fighting game tournament over the Internet to worldwide spectators. But an interesting wrinkle was added to the story yesterday when EVO co-organizer Joey "MrWizard" Cuellar revealed in an interview with OneMoreGameTV that Nintendo initially wanted to prevent Smash Bros. from being played at the tournament altogether.
NetherRealm confirms its Mortal Kombat franchise has sold over 80 million copies in the last 30 years, and here's how it competes against other fighters.
Don't care what anyone says, Smash isn't a traditional fighting game. May as well call Powerstone and Playstation All Stars fighting games. They're more of an arena fighter /party game.
Including Smash Bros in a list of fighting games, is like including GTA in Racing games.
The designer of the original Super Smash Bros. for the Nintendo 64 shows us the prototype that started it all.
Nintendo's little purple square didn't get the acclaim at the time, but the best GameCube games show what a powerhouse it really was.
Oh man... FZero. That is actually the only game I ever got sick off of. And Im not talking motion sick but full on seizure induced sick. It was so damn fast that my eyes just couldnt keep up and I found myself waking up in the hospital. Havent even tried to play it since, nearly 20 years ago. I can play wipeout, fast racing RMX, burnout... lots of other really fast racing games no problem. FZero really F'd me up that day.
Other cube games I never get tired of playing are mario kart dd, metroid prime, rogue leader and ikaruga
Man, we need a Viewtiful Joe and Viewtiful Joe 2 remake, along with F-Zero GX, Metroid Prime 1,2,3, can't forget Eternal Darkness, damn that game was amazing, Baten Kaitos as well. Noticed I said remake not remaster, I would love them to be remade in a whole new engine brought up to at least 2022 standards.😊 Remade on Switch and ones that are 3rd party can go multi-platform.
Honestly that console was up there in my top 3. So many good innovative games. Eternal Darkness was brilliant with the way it messed with you….aka your controller is disconnected… lol. Metroid, Zelda, Viewtiful Joe, and so many others. I miss playing them. Been thinking of buying a GameCube and jumping back into the nostalgia.
They want money, don't give it to them and get too big of an audience and too much money, then they will see that and shut it down. It's their product, why should anyone profit off it?
Mortal kombat > smash bros's any day, only kids are into smash bro's.
legally yes, they may be entitled to do that.
but it's not a good way of treating some of their most passionate fans.
these kinds of things, along with the youtube let's plays, are valuable promotional tools for nintendo if they had the sense to see them that way.
the best asset nintendo could have is a passionate fanbase.
but piss them off with actions like this and they could become their worst enemy.
if they go after the youtubers, they're not gonna make money off them, all that will happen is people will stop playing their games on youtube.
they get no money and the games don't get the promotion they would have.
it might be legal, but it's not smart.
This is a law that needs to be changed. The people that are actually playing the game and creating new content through there play through should be the copyright holder.
whereas i don't agree with what Nintendo's legal department has done (when following the news, you will know this decision was made by Nintendo's legal department), i can understand why they did it; since legally, they can do it. this is no different when you see "warnings" in DVD's indicating that is against the law to exhibit or publicly show any movies without getting a license. the main difference is that, it is easier to get a license for movies to show publicly, whereas for videogames it's not.
the legal department of Nintendo was doing it's job -- you might say, not a very good job in terms of PR, but then again, they're not PR guys, so they don't really care about backlash. nevertheless, it's just great that the bad rep reached the higher-ups just in time for them to reverse their decision.
could have been worse, they could have waited a week or so before backpedaling *cough* Microsoft *cough*.
