BluEx6103933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

What's wrong with these people??? They act like they still can't buy all their games digitally. And not worry about discs or disc swapping. Cloud computing is still a feature. What do they want, family share plan? There's time I would gladly lend a game to a co worker, but that co worker is not close enough to me to be in my family share list.

As a consumer I like to have choices in how I can buy my products. Sometimes I buy my books digitally, but it's never the same, so I always go back to reading in the old school paper way. I got a collection of comics which one day, I would like to give to my son. Got some rare comics in there also. If it was all digital, my rare comics are not rare anymore. I'm the kind of guy that still reads a newspaper, but also enjoy reading news on my tablet. I like to go to book stores instead of shopping on my kindle....

I don't know why we must stick with one or the other. Why can't we have the option for both? Stupid fanboys, trying to ruin consumers options to buy. I like both digital and physical. They both got their pros/cons.

Where do I sign a petition to take out Kinect? That's what I would want.

abzdine3933d ago

It's obviously a trolling petition. I lold at the "major nelson impersonator"

And if you actually go to the petition everyone signing it are saying they are doing it to help the ps4. abradley3933d ago

I think these people must just really want those features that MS took away along side the massive DRM issue.

You know, the family sharing and stuff. Well petitioners, if you want those features, ask for em, don't go and ask for the restrictions back. That's stupid.

fr0sty3933d ago

My only logical explanation is that these fanboys bought into the MS spin about their DRM so hard that when even MS was forced to change their ways, their little delusion was shattered and now they're running around confused and asking why.

nukeitall3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

As an online gaming platform, MS implementation was the least restrictive considering you could:

* share your digital library with 10 people instantanously
* trade-in your digital library
* give/sell the digital library away

For that to work, MS needs to be able to remove the game and know that it is removed (not just trust you) and that is why they need the 24-hour check-in.

Tell me of any other platform that gives you that sort of digital freedom?

I cannot think of a single platform that does! Not even Steam which is the holy grail of digital games! Heck, even on Steam a large number of games are not playable offline.

This was the future, and now we are back in the physical disc stone age. We had options, an always online console with Xbox One and physical disc with PS4 and Wii U.

Now the loud minority whiners eliminated the option for everyone by peeing in the pool they weren't going to use anyhow!

Outside_ofthe_Box3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

^^^

***"As an online gaming platform, MS implementation was the least restrictive considering"***

But it was the most restrictive in regards to physical games. Some wanted more freedom with digital content at the expense of physical freedom while others feel what we have in place now is better than what MS was offering.

***"Now the loud minority whiners eliminated the option for everyone by peeing in the pool they weren't going to use anyhow!"***

Microsoft didn't listen to people's complaints, but rather listened to their wallets. Do you think MS would have removed all of their restrictive polices if preorders were on par with PS4 or out pacing it? If people complained, but preorders reflected the opposite of that MS would have kept their XB1 vision in tact.

Microsoft's main reasoning for removing it was to remain competitive. Those that didn't want a restrictive console didn't preorder it and now you are blaming them for that? What happened to if don't like it don't buy it, huh? Well, people did just that and MS was forced to decide on whether they should wait until the XB1 hit the mass market to see if the masses would accept XB1 before deciding to reverse their policies or if they should reverse it now. They untimely concluded that the latter was best for them. It is what it is. This is how business with competition works.

In the end, the consumer will dictate what the future is! As of right now most people still buy physical discs. This may change next gen however with every game having a digital version day one now.

Baka-akaB3933d ago

Between that and idiots applauding Nintendo's previous decision of blocking Smash bros streams from EVO , i dunno wich is worse ....

nukeitall3933d ago

@Outside_ofthe_Box:

The not buying was a result of the bashing it took, with so much mis-information spread.

Obviously so much whining without nothing what it is going to ultimately affect sales.

Granted MS didn't help themselves, but this was definitely the media mis-reporting and the whining talking.

People was fine with digital media for ages, under much more restrictions. It's sad and I will probably buy my games digitally, but won't be able to readily share it.

Thank you whines and the media for pissing in the pool you weren't going to use!

Outside_ofthe_Box3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

***"The not buying was a result of the bashing it took, with so much mis-information spread.

Obviously so much whining without nothing what it is going to ultimately affect sales."***

Oh so now the "minority" can affect sales huh? What happened to the "hardcore minority scream the loudest", but the opposite happens as the world keeps spinning when it comes to actual content sold?

What it ultimately boils down to is that most didn't want a console that mandates internet for *any* amount of period of time and didn't want their physical games anymore restricted than what is present today even if we get more flexibility with digital content as benefit. There is no way you can say that the media misrepresented those key concerns.

And yes, people are fine with the way digital content is handled currently which is why nobody is really losing sleep over the benefits that could be had with Microsoft's original policy. What people really didn't want was for discs to be more restricted than they are now. That's what people were upset about.

You also seem to think that the only people that weren't going to buy the XB1 in first place were the ones complaining. If all Xbox gamers were okay with MS' original policies surely XB1 would have sold a lot more initially.

fear883933d ago

Dude. Never go full-retard.

N4Flamers3933d ago

@nukeitall

Your comment borders on senseless. You claim that a 24 hour check in was necessary for a digital library but the fact that it is a digital library means that you have to be online to utilize any of the features you mentioned. That renders a check in unessesary.

Would say that you forgot about how ms was going to limit where you can trade in your games but I think you remember. I think you remember how they attempted to tell people who they can lend their games to and how many times.
Unfortunately there is a cheaper more powerful alternative with none of the restrictions and people were flocking to it. The bottom line is that ms changed their tune because of the bottom line. The console was not going to be profitable.

"YES MICROSOFT, PLEASE GO BACK TO TAKING OUR RIGHTS AWAY!!!!!!!"

It's pathetic really. They're calling it Steam for Xbox. Steam actually lets you play offline for however long you want though.

Hufandpuf3933d ago

That's not true. Steam makes you sign online in order to switch to online mode. You can't start in offline mode

HammadTheBeast3933d ago

^
Well that's granted, how else would you download games?

zeal0us3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

@Hufandpuf
If you don't have a connection you can in fact start in offline mode. Though eventually the user would have to go online depending on titles.
I remember during Hurricane Sandy my internet was out for two months. I was able to stay offline(in Steam) the entire time and play most of my games.

"Steam makes you sign online in order to switch to online mode."

Makes sense since you're most likely trying to access online features if you're signing in. XBL and PSN also does this if you are trying to access online features.

CoLD FiRE3933d ago

Not completely true. You have to sign in online first and MANUALLY switch to offline mode before you're able to play offline and not to mention there are random bugs that cause games to stop working offline after two weeks (it doesn't always occur but there are many reports around the internet and it affects a large number of people).

Rockstar3933d ago

M$ is coming up with a new bundle, it's called the
XBox One Lube Me Up Edition. You'll get everything you normally would plus the DRM! For the low, low price of 599! Tagline for the bundle is "Get ready to bend over!"

:p

humbleopinion3933d ago

Actually steam doesn't only force you to login first to go to offline mode, but also requires re-authentication every 10 days or so.

The actual differences between the XBone and steam is that trading in and selling physical copies of games was still allowed (under some restrictions), and sharing your library with family was also possible. But Steam is indeed one great example of the transition to digital is greatly benefiting the entire PC ecosystem.

This was the best of both worlds for people who wanted transition do digital with added benefits: The people who didn't want that and remain attached to physical discs could have simply got a PS4 instead. It's not a worse console, now is it?

But instead we got an overwhelming backlash from many, including trolls who never intended to purchase the console anyway. And now we're left with basically two consoles working the same way. Way to ruin choice for everyone.

PunisherRevenge3932d ago

@Commander_Shepard, for one Microsoft was not taking anyone's rights away they where trying to pave a new lane into a digital future by trying something that has never been done on a console before. Plus why do you think it's pathetic when you see a group of people want something that you don't like and was ( in my opinion) a good idea, that ether wasn't explained properly or some gamers are just too slow to comprehend.

On top of the, with the X1 you still had all of the benefits of physical discs that you could still trade in if you wanted too. Like they said it was steam for Xbox the only difference was on could be played offline and the other couldn't. They both required you to check in every once in a while to authenticate and make sure you wasn't installing the game and then trading it in a GameStop for a cheap discount( if you got it new) or free( if you got it used). Also that system was put in place for security reason just in case dumb ass people ever decided to try to hack their systems.

Overall, I hope they do bring it back. But not make it all or nothing. I see people all the time bitching about freedom of choice and I think Microsoft should give it to them. What Microsoft should do is on day one when people connect their systems to the Internet for the first time they should let the people decide then. If they want the "ORIGINAL" planed policies for the X1 they should have the choice to NOT except the day one reverse policies. If the people don't want the "ORIGINAL" polices then they should have the choice to EXCEPT the day one update and opt out. GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT WHICH IS THE POWER OF CHIOCE MICROSOFT!!!!! you will be surprised at how many people really want this.

eclectified3932d ago

I don't understand why they can't do both. I tweeted this to Major Hyrb...

On 360, you could choose whether to install a disc. Why not make One have the option to enable/disable 'license lock'?
License lock require the disc to enable and would bring back family share, online check-in, and all the other features we love to hate.

Releasing the license would require one last check-in after which, all shared games would be invalidated and users can do whatever with the disc like every other console.

I believe they can allow this on a disc by disc basis and have an added option to release all.

What? ... I mean, what?!

MasterCornholio3933d ago

The answer to this is easy.

The people who are supporting this petition are the ones that believe that the family share plan would allow any one on the list to play their games without any restrictions. This is the reason why they want the old DRM system back.

But, the family share plan was nothing more than a glorified demo plan and it was confirmed by a Microsoft employee in their blog.

Source: http://pastebin.com/TE1MWES...

"Anyone who you deem to be family had access to these games regardless of where they are in the world. There was never any catch to that, they didn't have to share the same billing address or physical address it could be anyone. When your family member accesses any of your games, they're placed into a special demo mode. This demo mode in most cases would be the full game with a 15-45 minute timer and in some cases an hour. This allowed the person to play the game, get familiar with it then make a purchase if they wanted to."

shadyiswin3933d ago

mastercornhornholio sstop spreading lies,it was made very clear it wasnt just demos

http://www.ign.com/articles...

GribbleGrunger3933d ago (Edited 3933d ago )

@shadyiswin: You have to ask yourself (baring in mind the MS meltdown at the time) why didn't MS mention it was full games at the time? Think about it. The internet and every publication is against you. You have to do something to change that, even if it's only slightly ... But you hold onto this piece of information until AFTER you drop it?!

Come on now, smell the roses. :)

And given all the money MS has, I wouldnt put a sneaky underhand, low-key campaign to reinstate DRM, past them.

stuna13933d ago

For all anyone knows Microsoft could have just said that it was switched off in hopes that they somehow would be able to convince consumers that the restrictions are a good thing! Some fail to realise that Microsoft still has 4 1/2 to 5 months to sway the general consumer.

They could not even be considered falsely advertising either since their is really no concrete way of proving that they have indeed did a 180, just the fact that the Xbox 1 is not seeing a worldwide release, and is broken down in tiers as far as release wise, kind of raises suspicions as to why that may be! Could it be that Microsoft is not being completely honest with the public? Don't forget they haven't been very forthcoming with a lot of things this generation! Not hate, facts!

One of Microsoft least endearing qualities, is how they handle situations concerning competition or, resistance is that they throw money at it, instead of finding out how they can be more competitive, or why they're encountering resistance. When there is technology out there better than Microsoft, they take on the role of a bully, smear campaigns, mis-direction, hostile takeovers, contractual clauses and a host of other things.

Microsoft has been priming the ill-informed for years, the problem is they jumped the gun! The tactics that they've tried to use will be used again at some later time, mark my words.

Bathyj3933d ago

Sony didnt TAKE the advantage. Advantage was thrust upon them with MS's own inability to explain themselves adequately despite being given multiple chances to do just that. They preferred to speak in riddles and cryptic clues and muddy the waters of their own message when they should have just been clear and upfront.

It just indicative of how they operate as a company and now they are reaping what they've sown instead of raping or wallets.

Which means that they knew what they were doing was wrong. No company would speak in riddles about a feature that they TRULY believe would be the future. They would advertise it and make their message as transparent as possible.

Sounds like greenpowerz to be honest.

"Consumers were uninformed?" Yeah, I guess I am uninformed, because I sure as hell don't remember any mention of trading or selling digital licenses.

Yoko Taro Passes Respect; Says Stellar Blade Is "Much Better" Than Nier: Automata

Stellar Blade's creative director, Hyung Tae Kim, has also claimed that the game is deeply inspired by Nier: Automata.

shadowhaxor8h ago

I feel like Yoko is downgrading Automata because he has expressed multiple times he'd like to revisit the universe, but Squenix hasn't been keen about it. We know he loves 2B and would love to take her out for another spin, so maybe this is how he gets the company to think about it.

u do realise that Square made Nier a franchise after Automata right?

Taro is downplaying it cause hes not a snob like most of the directors that think their games are gods gifts to the human race.

he said the same thing when being interviewed during the development of Automata too, that he couldnt have done it without the devs.

hes just a humble guy rly.

I mean, Neir existed before Automata with both OG Niers and Drakenguard. I don't count NieR Replicant, since it's a remake of the OG games. Sure, we have Reincarnation, which is still stuck on mobile devices (quite a damned shame). I just remember Taro saying he'd love to revisit Automata if Square Enix lets him. I do recall there was supposed to be a sequel to Automata, but it wasn't confirmed and I'd imagine it was just for Reincarnation.

Enjoy Taro, he seems like a cool guy, who loves the ladies and is humble. But damn, don't put down one of your masterpieces.

I really liked Automata and cannot wait for Stellar Blade

I get he's giving them some credit, but i strongly disagree based on the demo. I honestly don't think any aspect of it feels good, it's not bad, it's just kinda ok but definitely a little jank. Also the souls like formula it is adopting does not help it imo. I was looking forward to this for years, now im just kinda let down honestly 🫤

Same... Awful way to word that title's beginning.

Thats because Sony had a heavy hand in funding and developing this game.

They sent in XDEV one of their traveling support studios to Korea to lend a hand if I’m not mistaken, Sony pulled out the big guns to help this studio
