Ryan Davis passed away on July 3rd. He was 34.
Obviously we’re all stunned over here. Ryan was a good friend to all of us. It’s odd to remember that, for someone who could be so acerbic at times, and despite knowing him for almost a decade, I honestly don’t recall ever actually being mad at him. He had an unconventional type of kindness that expressed itself more strongly the longer one knew him, and despite his teasing nature, he always managed to make his close friends feel loved when his attention turned towards you.
This week we join the masses in our endless love for the one, the only, Ryan Davis. Fred is joined by Trees and we discuss the career of Ryan Davis, including some off the wall discussions about Jeff Gerstmann’s looks, and the end of the console team at GameSpot that gave way to the Giant Bomb web site. After some kind farewells the boys talk about Ryan’s other passion than gaming: movies. Specifically retro games licensed from movies that they really enjoy and from there the banter takes the show off the rails.
VB - Like with the passing of Roger Ebert, all we can say is thank you.
Ever since this news broke out on July 8th, it has been a really rough last 10 days. Losing Ryan, Losing my grandfather, having difficulty sleeping at night, having different looks on life (which is why I can't sleep --> Over-thinking) and playing video games has lost it's edge with me for some strange reason.
All I can hope is that my luck changes soon and August will be a better month!
This week on Sessler's ...Something, Adam reports in from 2013 Imagine Cup Worldwide Finals and ponders the issue we face in discussing and typifying games.
Adam is much more eloquent with his own channel than he ever was able to be at G4. We really need to start looking at the bigger picture again.
I love listening to Sessler intellectualise and analyse the industry. I don't always a agree with him but I can't help admiring his confidence and eloquence when confronted with the bigger picture.
Wow, :( I don't know him but I am very sad.
I've seen some shows with him on, seemed like a really nice, and he just got married.
Rest in Peace.
RIP mate, you were one of the good ones.
