Battlefield 4 to Possibly Bring Keyboard and Mouse Support to PS4

With the introduction of the Battlefield franchise on next-generation consoles, Battlefield 4 looks to provide a greater depth of functionality than what Battlefield 3 brought to the Xbox 360 and PS3. In doing so, it appears that DICE is actually looking into the possibility of bringing support for the keyboard and mouse into the PS4 version of this title.

I disagree. Switching from controller to m/k gave me a huge advantage over most in Dust 514. I won most one on two battles. The controller can't compete with the sensitivity of the mouse.

That is a viable fix. It is garbage in FPS's when mouse users can do a 180 in a tenth of a second, and that's where the unfair advantage comes in.

But a crappy mouse won't give you much of an advantage over a controller. An actual difference would only be seen with a gaming mouse. A crap mouse might even worsen your accuracy since the dpi is so low.

That's not true at all. Even a cheap laser mouse is more accurate than a controller for the vast majority of people. Every controller ever made has to have a minimum of a 10% dead zone. Even the cheapest mouse has 0% dead zone

And "gaming" mice are pretty much a gimmick to charge $50-$100 for an item that cost $2-$15 to manufacture. Mostly the benefit of "gaming" mice is the number of buttons and macro support.

A cheap mouse will have a ton of jitter and that can and WILL hinder long distance "sniping" and accuracy. A gaming mouse (a simple 40 dollar one) will not only remove that deficiency but will last many more years then your cheap mice. Hell, this G9x that I'm using has been going strong for at least 6 years.

A cheap laser mouse is not more accurate than a controller. It's just faster to aim with it and that's dependent on the game settings itself since it has no dpi control.

I used to believe that a mouse is a mouse is a mouse, then I got my Logitech G600 mmo mouse. It's like night and day compared to the $10 bargain bin mouse I had. Coupled with my G13 keyboard, I wonder how I made it this long as a PC/console gamer. Knowing that I will be able to use them in more console games makes me even more satisfied with my hefty investment... mmm macros.

Good mouses really do make a big difference. Especially since you can adjust their dpi settings along with added buttons for shortcuts and macros. I own an a4 X7, even though it's not expensive it actually is a very dependable mouse and I've been using it for 2 years without having any issues. I paired it with an X7 keyboard and my gaming experience have improved a lot without putting a hole in my wallet. Anyways I still prefer mouse and keyboard combo for shooters and I'm really gonna be happy if the PS4 adds support to it.

You clearly didn't see tank controlls on mouse on PC. You can aim and spin your turret as fast as using a soldier. You can literally rotate so quick you will look like a daamn chopper. That's AN ADVANTAGE.

Sure, mice are different. Differences between mice are not as significant as differences between ability though. Back in the pro Counter-Strike 1.6 days a non-gaming mouse made by Microsoft was often referred to as one of, if not the best mouse for that game. Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 People were willing to pay far too much money for that thing on ebay after they weren't made anymore. Luckily Microsoft re-released the mouse to be had by all. The thing has like 200 or 400 dpi or something. All you need in my book.

it be nice, i recently into mouse and key bored gaming (half Life, CS:GO, TF2, Gmod) it is very smooth and accurate but i still love the good old controller. so this is a nice addition if some players want to expand there gaming experience.

Off Topic: People who have a strong enough PC should give Guild Wars 2 a go, amazing MMORPG, and ALOT of bang for your buck! Remember Guild Wars 2 is a CPU Intensive game, you still need a good gpu to run it, but you wil need a real good cpu to run it cuz of the amount of things to process (cuz its an MMORPG, a lot of things on screen).

I agree that it is good to have options, and I'm happy to hear about KB/M compatibility on PS4, but I think the general opposing argument would be that because KB/M combos are advantageous, and since this IS on a console after all (meaning worst case scenario assume the opposing arguer does not have a KB/M to match your advantage) maybe they think that everyone should HAVE to use a controller, kinda like a "no cheating" mentality. At least that's my take on things

You're all nuts if you think KB/M controls aren't way more accurate than controller. BF3 for example. I owned both the Xbox 360 version and PC version, and I can say from experience, using the mouse is literally so acute and tactile when it comes to snapping your crosshairs over to an opponent or even spinning 180' degrees to catch the guy behind you sneakin up. I do like the fact that we have the option of both on PS4 though, I'm not sure which one I'll use... the KB/M combo might not be worth the inconvenience of all the extra wires. I like controllers because they're quick to pick up and simple to set back down when you're finished gaming.

I got a split fish frag fx mouse for ps3 and kind of controller for movement you only hold in left hand, batllefield plays weird but still fun, there is a better splitfish witch is preety much a controller split into two and you hold each piece in each hand

This kind of set up I like on BF3 for pc. I use the controller for movement and the mouse for aiming/shooting and a few other things. for me strafing and moving feels weird with just the keyboard.

These consoles are essentially pc's why not support mouse and keyboard, this is very interesting and im quite excited at the prospect. I remember playing quake on the dreamcast with a mouse and keyboard awkward as it was it was more fun.

Im a pc gamer and a 360 gamer, K/B m is the better combo though, that first aim means everything and for me its not as quick on the 360.

The speed turning isn't really an issue if you are good with sensitivity. The higher it is the quicker the turn speed. Using a dualshock on PC doesn't leave me at a disadvantage, granted I'm fairly decent with a KB/M setup too so if i start to struggle i switch on the fly.

Simple: limit the sensitivity that KB&M players use. I use KB&M on CS:GO. No balance issues but imo playing counter strike with a controller is just terrible. Aim assist doesn't play the game as much as some people like to claim and is even detrimental for some people (myself included, I have to turn it off). I was a console only gamer for many, many years and after a couple of matches on PC BF3 I was already able to aim faster and more precisely than I could with a controller. And I use just a little common use Logitech mouse. A gaming mouse would have been insane.

As long as they have those options to play only with players with the same input, this will be great and I'm all for it. Otherwise, no.

It's just not fair no matter how you spin it. DICE of all people know this. Especially after they were so anal about triggers being the absolute best option here recently. I'd probably play with both depending on my mood. I'm better with kb/m but seeing players I take the time to flank react almost as if I ran right in front of them and tanks turning their cannons 180 degrees in a split second urks me.

There is a clear advantage of using a KB/M for a FPS game over a controller. Anyone that thinks otherwise is just plain wrong.

If they are going to implement this, they'll have to have a server option to allow only game pads, only KB/M, and both.

Sitting on a couch trying to use a KB/M is awkward even with a hard surface for the mouse, not to mention bending your wrists to play at that angle is painful and causes carpal tunnel. Thing about keyboard/mouse is that at a desk you can adjust the height of your chair for comfort. and you can support your elbows on the desk if you want.

FPS on PC I change the buttons to the same set for each game, it's what I'm used to so we'll see if Devs allow the same on PS4. personally I feel when developers don't allow you to customize on console for all the buttons on a controller it's laziness. Not choosing present combinations but choosing an action for a button like on PC's, it's possible, they just don;t allow it on most games.

Anyone that thinks controller and kb/m are comparable in FPS games is an idiot. As someone who plays on both platforms, the mouse is much faster. How anyone can try and dispute that is beyond me. Watch videos of highly skilled players playing BF3... the speed in which they can turn and acquire targets is beyond anything possible with a controller. I play BF3 on Xbox and the controller is much slower.

Adding kb/m support to consoles would be ridiculous. And anyone that currently uses a kb/m adapter on a console FPS is nothing more than a cheat.

Also DICE should be focusing on adding ping filters to their servers rather than fannying about with superfluous things like kb/m support.

It completely depends on how it's set up in terms of speed and aim-assist. But you either need to give handicap to contollers or nerf m/kb. There will be mispleasure either way. Perhaps it's best to either skip on it or seperate them in matchmaking.

I personally prefer controller as movement feels more natural, but as a lifelong pc gamer as well I don't mind mouse/kb in certain games. This could be a nice feature, but I am concerned with balancing. Not just aiming, but general movement and turning speed/precision.
