Microsoft Aims To Win GamesCom With The Xbox One

Third time's the charm right? After press-bombing twice and having the Xbox One fall on its face the two times it was showcased at the biggest events in gaming, Ballmer and crew at the micro 'M' are going for one and three, with a full blown press conference at this year's European-based tradeshow GamesCom.

At E3 they said they're heavily investing in 5 studios. Two of those are 343 and Black Tusk. So we obviously know what Halo 5 will be like but Black Tusk's game is still hasn't "truly" been revealed.

The other 3's work is still a mystery. If anyone could confirm which studios the other 3 were just in case we have actually seen what they're working on please do so :)

MS hasn't showed every card since they still need to show the potential of the cloud and maybe how the Kinect 2.0 is better than the first. But if they can't show what makes the Xbox One more powerful than the PS4 in some aspects other than multi-tasking...then, they're not pushing sales any much farther. Sony still has cards up it's sleeve also, like showing how fast Gaikai streaming is to all the world outside Japan and maybe some social/game sharing features. Gamescon is probably the last time they can fix whatever mistakes or confusion they made. But knowing both, MS has a lot to do to impress gamers more than Sony. I kinda doubt the cloud is anything amazing since at E3, nothing of it was shown...just all talk, like always but we'll see.

If MS steps onto the stage and pulls a bench test of an XB1 utilizing the cloud from a computational stand point and it truly amplifies the power of the console, I think this whole conversation changes direction.

That being said, they need to get themselves straight in terms of informing the public about their cloud. Fewer buzz words and more practical application for the now. What will the Cloud do for us gamers out of the box... what would make us want to buy one on day one as opposed to 4 years down the line after PS4 has pulled ahead.

I've read some really positive articles and statements about the cloud from some developers, and on the same token some negative stuff from others. Although I got a misleading vibe from the negative comments that sounded unfounded and opinionated.

This console war has been so convoluted. It is frustrating to decipher the fact from the fiction with companies playing their cards close to the chest and the fan boys jumping down throats. As far as I see it, MS has one opportunity to come out now and be transparent with their plans and their direction... with their loss of leaderships they need to be.

PS4 stands now with everything to lose, because the only thing MS can really do at this point is improve. PS4 keeps playing the PR game and they can nail down this Gen launch.

I'm pretty sure there is more than 9 left for Sony of the 20. We have what Killzone: SF, Infamous: SS, Knack, Drive Club, and The Order that have been announced. That's only 5 out of the 20. I don't think there is anymore Sony first party games that have been announced so were looking at 15 first party games still to be announced for first year. But I may be wrong.

I'm not sure about MS, but at least 10 of them from microsoft studios have been announced.

If I'm not mistaken, Microsoft said they had 15 first party exclusives for the first year. They only showed 3 or 4 exclusive titles that are first party. Ryse, Dead Rising 3, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, among others, might be exclusive but are not first party, so Microsoft probably have a few more games up their sleeves... unless they meant 15 first and third party exclusives.

Froom what I have read the show will be an hour long. They have yet to talk about the TV aspect for Europe and any exclusive partnerships with TV companies. The TV arena in Europe is different than the US so they have to talk around the UK market and the rest of EU.

Microsoft like the long winded approach so that will be about 20 minutes.

This is just guessing as Microsoft have ignored Europe for a while with no new or conferences in Years.

Dedicated servers don't mean lagless online, and dedicated servers are an option, not guaranteed with every game. Publishers have to pay MS to use them.

As for the general public, I didn't care about owning a Wii or a 360, though I'm in the US and knew lots of people with both. No one I know owns a 360 now, so who followed who?

Per Respawn, Microsoft is greatly subsidizing the cost of using the cloud for dedicated server usage, and thus cost won't be a factor for AAA and AA titles. $10 billion to set up their cloud as opposed to buying Gaikai for just south of $400 million? Actually the first supply of Xbox one did sell out, but they reopened it when Amazon was supposedly given more stock. Technically one could say the ps4 launch has not sold out either as they are available in bundles.... only the stand alone ps4 is no longer available, and we do not know how many that included. Amazon could sell more stand alone launch units if they wanted, but decided to go the GameStop route. Do we even know if there will be a preorder cap?.... the report is that Sony gave retailers the green light....maybe Microsoft did as well.

The general public, the only countries where the xbox has held any sort of big number as far as general public goes is US and the UK. I can't talk about the US, but there have been a few polls over here in national newspapers etc (not online polls for fanboys) and so far all the feedback has pointed to the ps4 being more popular now.

Maybe that will change after gamescom or GDC but I think right now there is nothing for sony or sony fanboys to be scared of.

There is a lot more to this then just the first 20 games the console launches with.

I honestly believe Microsoft has no chance at gamescon, they already have so much ground to make up even after the 180, Microsoft has already shown quite a few of the 15 exclusives they have coming where as Sony has only shown a very few of the 20 exclusives they have coming this year.

Most people need to realize sony's strategy, they have slowly been releasing info and games etc to keep the hype up and be able to keep showing new content. Microsoft on the other hand not only has to play catch up but they have been laying out a majority of their cards already.

The only games that would most likely be coming to PS4 soon are Dead Rising 3 and TitanFall. Sure there were teasers but would you have rather have them put a kid on stage again and have them play Kinect Sports? Or how about Usher? I'm sure you would prefer that. They said they were going to show off games, and that's what they did. If you're going to argue about teasers and multiplats again I'm done.

Digital Foundry has already done a piece regarding if the Xbox One games were running on PCs. They have said that the first-party games were running on Xbox One hardware and most of the third-party stuff (probably BF4, DR3, etc..) were running on PC. I will not disagree that the PS4 does everything the Xbox One does, and that's it's also cheaper and more powerful. But that's another argument that I won't get into.

Now if you owned a 4x4 and a car, sure, you have two cars that fill different needs. Or a motorbike and a car, sure, why not.
But would you go buy a honda accord and a toyota camry just to say you are a true car person? I am careful with my money, if I buy two or three gaming systems it is because they offer very different experiences. I own all three systems now, for different reasons.
Right now I see a camry and an accord. Both pretty similar, but the accord is 20 percent cheaper.
Until someone clearly demonstrates what the xbone can do that the ps4 can not (including game exclusives), I can certainly live with one system for now.

Well, while you certainly make a valid point, let's remember the context of this. The Xbox 360 had a 50% failure rate (RROD), forced users to buy XBLG for multiplayer (and even Netflix), and after the first few years really slowed down pumping out exclusives - plus Kinect.

Meanwhile, the PS3 slowly created a fantastic and consistent library of exclusives and made PlayStation Plus an incredible deal. To be objective Sony certainly had their issues as well, namely PSN being hacked; however the overall perception is Microsoft stopped really supporting the Xbox 360 with a strong effort to bring the best gaming experience while the PS3 did. Perception, READ: EXCLUSIVES.

Now, with the announcement of the PS4 Sony talked about powerful specs, a super easy and developer friendly console, strong indie support, etc. Meanwhile Microsoft announced anti-consumer and restrictive policies, mandatory Kinect and online as well as a multitude of other issues (TV,TV, SPORTS, SPORTS, COD, COD...). Microsoft has reversed many of these policies, but there is a real reason to be wary of Microsoft and the Xbox One.

And with all of that said, the PS4 is $100 cheaper. Sure, plenty of people are obnoxious on the positive Xbox One articles/comment sections and I don't condone it; but with everything surrounding these two consoles I can at least understand why. It's not some conspiracy. N4G isn't a Sony fanboy haven. Simply put, the majority of gamers who frequent forums and comment sections prefer the PS4.

I count myself among them, and I assure you I'm most definitely not a fanboy.

As for gamescon Microsoft has already played most of their hands and its obvious, they said they have 15 exclusive games coming this year look below.

before E3 Microsoft was under pressure because they had just announced a 'gaming' console without games, having focused instead on casuals/TV features. Also since they were scheduled to go before Sony's conference it meant that they didn't know how many games Sony was going to show. They also had the DRM issue to cover up, they needed to come out heavy on games as to distract the public about the more unpopular decisions of the company. I don't know if anyone noticed, but the Halo announced/video was a desperate attempt. They were basically saying "don't forget we have Halo." The game was simply not ready. This should tell you the degree of pressure they were under. Sony on the other hand was in no such trouble. They were going second, which meant that they showed as many games as they needed since they had two big aces up their sleeves (no DRM and lower Price). Sony quite possibly kept their games for the two remaining conferences closer to the reveal where they will have the higher impact. So if you ask me, Sony's the one I'm excited for.

I completely agree with you. The problem I have with Microsoft is that they don't find gaming to be a viable business en devour. The only reason they are in it, is because they see the opportunity of entering peoples homes and earn profits in other departments, which is still fine if they wouldn't try to stab gamers in the back or rip them off by cutting support halfway through the generation (like with 360) in favor of "casuals", applications, and kinect. This time around they even showed their hands when they announced a GAMING console without games! for god's sake! and still some gamers think they should stay loyal to these guys. They even have the kinect bundled in with the system this time around and they've included all these "innovative" capabiities that essentially have nothing to do with gaming and everything to do with gathering information from your home. The Kinect will usher us into a very sad era when companies emboldened by kinects precedent will include information gathering capabilities in everything you use. Next thing you know your bloody toaster will be "always on." Microsoft doesn't add to the gaming environment they just pay off studios to block games that would normally be available to all of us, and make them exclusive to their console. This is why they only have games for the first half of each generation and then the core gamer support trails off. They simply can't buy exclusivity once install bases get larger.
