Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn’s Story Does Right What the Original FFXIV Did Wrong

The original Final Fantasy XIV had a lot of flaws, but its arguably worst problem was in the most important element for a Final Fantasy game: the story.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn does not repeat that mistake, and does right what its predecessor did wrong.

It is soo much better then the original ffxiv.

Abriael3939d ago

It is, and not just technically. I would go ahead and say that it's on the good track to be one of the best MMOs on the market nowadays.

Abriael3939d ago

@newmonday: that kind of game has several storylines with several endings normally.

NewMonday3939d ago

so it's not like the perpetual "end games content" in MMORPGs

Noami3939d ago

i honestly prefare the old ffxiv story but as for gameplay is much funer etc i miss the old voice cast i hate the new voice overs.

Abriael3939d ago (Edited 3939d ago )

The old voice cast? What voice cast? They said three lines each (and the acting was sub par, to be charitable).

What new voice overs do you hate, considering that 99% of the new voice overs aren't implemented in the game yet?

Without even talking about the fact that A Realm Reborn has an advantage that cannot be countered: the ability to set voices to the original Japanese. Dual audio > All.

And the old story was a complete and utter mess, with what should be the main character completely marginalized.

Noami3939d ago

hm ive hear the voice actors of japanese ver on a event and for english i like the englan tone type of e than u.s english.

ive seen more bout the game on events in rl so i can say what ive seen for voice actor i like the old cast for u.s and jp one is ok again liked the old one played 1.0 from bigging to end of story.

I've really enjoyed the beta so far. I got to lvl 32 this weekend and completed everything in duty finder, I also really enjoyed fate camping this weekend.

Abriael3939d ago

Funnily enough fate doesn't do much for me, but I guess it's a decent diversion for when you don't have other things to do...

NatureOfLogic3939d ago

Fates are fun, If you can find the consistent back to back ones, like the one near drybone that gives you around 20-25k exp and about 800-1000 company seals. That's where I got most of my exp and seals while waiting for duty finder.

MadLad3939d ago

If this eventually goes without a sub fee, I am definitely on board. Not big on MMO at all, but this really looks to be a quality release.

Abriael3939d ago

It's a quality release *because* it has a sub fee.

Sub = Quality, especially continued quality
F2P = supermarket where a lot of development resources go into trying to make you buy crap in the cash shop.

MadLad3939d ago

Eh.
I would argue that, personally. Though it is all point of view.
That said, I don't see me getting my money's worth from a subscription based MMO.
This isn't for me then.

rdgneoz33938d ago (Edited 3938d ago )

There is a middle ground like with games such as Guild Wars 2. Pay for the game and then no sub fee. They've had content updates every so often, fixes for bugs / balancing, and a cash shop that doesn't make the game pay-to-win like some F2P games and is more cosmetic stuff.

But as for ARR, I've been enjoying the beta so far. Can't wait for release, as well as for the PS4 version when it comes out later.

Shoul3934d ago

@rdgneoz3 - you can't really say Guild Wars 2 have content updates 'every so often'... it is updated two weeks, and before that, once a month. That is a lot of content.

The shop is purely cosmetic, and the currency can be earned via playing the game - you may convert your gold into 'gems' which is the currency required to buy stuff in the shop.

Rather than paying a obligatory £8 a month fee, Guild Wars 2 gets it right - buy the box, and only pay for stuff you want. No one can argue "subs = quality" when you consider the amount of quality content Guild Wars 2 on a regular basis.

Sub fees won't exist in the future. B2P and F2P are the way forward. Progress = developing new ideas, not succumbing to a vocal minority and reverting back to a age-old model that is no longer as successful as it once was.

I'd be interested in FFXIV if it didn't have a sub fee, and about a million others would agree. B2P would suit this game fine, and like its predecessor, expansions would be another source of income.

amazing so far! Can't wait till the full game for more content!!!!

The Xbox profanity filter is currently ruining the readability of the FFXIV chat on Xbox Series X/S due to censored words.

Lol, damn... At this point, they were better off keeping FF XIV away from Xbox. It has been nothing but obstacle, after obstacle.

gold_drake16d ago

wanted to say the exact same thjng.

VenomUK16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

What happens if you say things that used to get you banned on Twitter e.g. 'a man can't be a woman'?

RedDevils15d ago

*insert gift*
"Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina."

DivineHand12516d ago

I'm not convinced this is the profanity filter. It doesn't make sense to censor words like class, harvest and dance. It seems to be a bug.

16d ago
TheGamingHounds15d ago

Well, FF14 itself has some pretty awful chat censoring so Xbox being in the same boat isn't too farfetched

Eidolon15d ago

it censored the S T D in "harvest dance" and I bet the A S S in class. I know this because of Runescape

Aphrodia16d ago

Yeah these new fangled filters are going a bit too far. I have a game that filters "wtf". It's a censor for a self-censoring phrase. But I think overall it's how it should be. If you don't want certain language being used in your game by your player base, then it's up to you to filter/ censor the language you don't want. I can respect that. What I can't respect is when you say things that are not really offensive then you get ostracized for it.

shinoff218316d ago

What happened to just reporting people

NOMATICENIGMA16d ago

This is completely false, I tested this on my son's child account and mine, this is not Microsoft censoring they will censor swears but not the combination of letters I can prove this with a screenshot where I use all mentioned words in the article but do not know how to upload a picture.

NOMATICENIGMA15d ago

You can all continue your bashing, I was wrong someone explained to me this is a new policy, that's why it only happens for me in this brand new release. I'll try latter on ps to confirm but their response seemed informed wich leaves me rather worried for future censorship on my xbox.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

Geezus, Xbox, you get gifted gold and still f*ck things up.

NOMATICENIGMA16d ago

It's not xbox, go ahead start a chat with the youngest person on your friends list then say raid mass class sass said .... they do not censor any of these I even got away with R.Aids. sqaure on the other hand does.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

Does this affect PC and PS4/PS5 users, too? Or is it only happening on Xbox?
