“Xbox One Is The Best Place for Gamers” Interview with Microsoft

Strong words from Microsoft, after unveiling the Xbox One earlier this year there was concern that the system was becoming more main stream. Focusing instead on television integration as opposed to quality gaming.

At this year’s E3, Mircosoft is now singing a different tune. On VGS this week, Craig Flannagan from Xbox Canada joins the show to discuss why, “Xbox One is the Best Place for Gamers."

what you want them to say ?!...really ?!

NewMonday3946d ago (Edited 3946d ago )

they talk the talk but don't walk the walk

in the XBone event it was all TV TV sports TV

LaChance3946d ago (Edited 3946d ago )

But you conveniently leave out the E3 event ...

Sorry but going from both MS and Sony's E3 event I'll be going with the XOne.

MS showed loads of exclusives while Sony just showed multiplats with exclusive timed DLC. Funny huh they actually pulled a MS :)

You can have the exclusive DLC for Destiny, I'll go with the exclusives, you know that thing that was seriously lacking form Sonys event.

No_Limit3946d ago (Edited 3946d ago )

"“We’ve given developers a pallet to create games unlike anywhere else” citing 17 exlcusive titles coming for the Xbox One in the first 6 months of release, 10 of which are completely new IP’s. "

My god, MS is telling the truth. There are exactly 17 exclusives, and 10 of them are indeed new Ips, all were revealed at E3.

Below
Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
D4
Forza Motorsport 5
Halo
Killer Instinct
Kinect Sports Rivals
Quantum Break
Ryse: Son of Rome
Sunset Overdrive
Project Spark
Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
Fantasia: Music Evolved
LocoCycle
Titanfall
Zoo Tycoon

That is even before Black Tusk Studio, Lionhead, Epic, Team Osaka show their games yet and from the surprise publishing deal with Dead Rising and Sunset Overdrive at E3, other third party exclusives being published by MS will no doubt be in store in the future as well.

MikeMyers3946d ago

Anyone care to explain why someone who says all the talk was about TV gets more agrees than those who mention E3 and list actual games coming gets more disagrees?

This is what happens when you have a gaming site dominated by one fanbase, a false representation of what's really going on.

dedicatedtogamers3946d ago

@ MikeMyers

"This is what happens when you have a gaming site dominated by one fanbase"

No, this is what happens when Microsoft prioritizes (i.e announces first) TvTvSports. Some people believe MS's PR when they say "we're all about the games". Other people doubt that same PR. Some people have reasons to believe the PR (look at all they showed off at E3). Others have valid reasons to doubt it (but look at their track record and look at the X1 reveal event).

The public opinion is against the X1. Not 100%, of course, but it is lopsided. So, why is it odd to see a reflection of that on a gaming forum?

For the record, this is exactly what happened to the PS3. PS3 had its loyal supporters, but for several years the PS3 was seen as inferior to XBox 360.

DivineHand1253946d ago

Don't forget that there are many gaming events between now and the launch of the consoles so just because Microsoft laid down all its cards at E3 mean that its competitors did the same. Over the previous years, Sony has shown very few new games at E3 and either announces games before or after the show. Nintendo has also said that they intentionally held back on showing new software during E3 because they wanted to have exciting announcements in its future directs.

DragonKnight3945d ago

You know what's REALLY funny? The "exclusives" argument was made against the PS3 at the beginning of its life (PS3 has no games, Xbox 360 has better exclusives, etc) and look what happened. When are people going to learn that Sony always has too many exclusives to show all at once?

MikeMyers3944d ago

@DragonKnight,
"You know what's REALLY funny? The "exclusives" argument was made against the PS3 at the beginning of its life (PS3 has no games, Xbox 360 has better exclusives, etc) and look what happened. When are people going to learn that Sony always has too many exclusives to show all at once?"

What's even funnier is hearing people suggest the Xbox One isn't about games and when people list games those people don't comment on them while at the same time moving the goal posts.

Xbox One having LESS 1st party exclusives than PS4 (20>15) from LESS talented developers (Sony studios>MS studios) means it's the best place to game? lol

Xbox One having LESS PC/Console (F2P or not) exclusives than PS4 (PlanetSide 2, Warframe, Primal Carnage, Blacklight, DCUO etc. etc.) means it's the best place to game? lol

Xbox One having LESS indie exclusives and indie support in general than PS4 (Outlast, Octodad, Secret Ponchos, etc. etc.) means it's the best place to game? lol

Xbox One having inferior hardware compared to PS4 (50% less powerful GPU) and less efficient RAM for games (DDR3) means it's the best place to game? lol

Wow, just, wow... Just how far will MS's delusion take them. XD

TI_213946d ago (Edited 3946d ago )

@Sonic Just want to point out one inaccuracy.

The PS4 has a 50% stronger GPU than the X1.
That means the X1's GPU is 33% weaker. ;)

For the sake of the people who plan on buying the X1 I hope this remains true. While I don't think its absolutely the best place for gamers, its pretty obvious that this your average run of the mill PR talk.

PureSophistry3946d ago

Do not disagree- Playstation rep was a thousand times better. Even if I am partial to Xbox. Easy to do great PR when you have public support

RandomDude6553946d ago

The cloud is foggy on this one

KingPin3946d ago

"xbox one is the best place for gamers"

said no gamer ever.

True_Samurai3946d ago

TheGrimReaper00113946d ago

"xbox one is the best place for gamers to get screwed"

RandomDude6553946d ago

nah,

"xbox one is the best place for gamers to watch TV TV TV TV , after a gaming session on PS4"

No_Limit3946d ago

"“We’ve given developers a pallet to create games unlike anywhere else” citing 17 exlcusive titles coming for the Xbox One in the first 6 months of release, 10 of which are completely new IP’s. "

Man, that is great news. More games, the better. Xbox 1 is indeed focus on gaming. Can't wait for the first wave of games to drop.

latincooker2143946d ago

lol its the Xbot No Limit again hi there have fun with your cable box bud. PS4 FTW:) i hope they keep the ball rolling for you 3 years from now. and BTW don't forget to cash that check from microsoft.

True_Samurai3946d ago

Oh it's the $ony bu++lover Latincook came to troll yet another Xbox article. Dang son you keep this on you'll be a CEO soon :-) oh BTW make sure you wipe your face after Sony is done with you ;-)

AngelicIceDiamond3946d ago (Edited 3946d ago )

Seriously @latin? And yet dense stupid fanboys say "Huur durr this is not a Sony fanboy site." Yeah ever time there's a major Xbox article Its ALWAYS Sony fans who comment first. The fact that You got all those Agrees for an extreme fanboy comment who should be marked for trolling. And no limit got all those unfair completely biased disagrees knowing he didn't say nothing wrong but stated his excitement is simple proof of no life jealous fanboys.

So I'll ask this, why do Sony fans always invade Xbox articles instead of Xbox fans since it pertains to them?

And how come I see little to no Xbox fanboys in a major Sony related article. "Since this site is even with fanboys."

Btw coming into a an Xbox article and arguing with MS fans is not a sign of this site being even genius's.

Why is it so hard to get a decent conversation going regarding MS articles because you have to fight through a sea of stupid no life fanboys?

I don't wanna hear a fanboy ever tell me this isn't a "Pro Sony site" ever again. I'll just mark you down for trolling.

Anyway I like what MS showed as well. I wanna see more on Titanfall, Quantum Break and Insomniacs new game very soon. X1 does have me excited and intrigued.

Kryptix3945d ago

lol It's funny cause back in 06, this site was filled with Xbox fanboys posting Sony doom articles all over the place. Now that the tables have turned starting with the PS3's great recovery, now people are bitching how this is a Sony fan site. No dummy, this website goes with what's best. Wait your turn when Microsoft tries again with a less TV focused console and when they don't try forcing unwanted "features" up your behind without knowing then reverses it into something else. PS4 is the most comfortable system for gaming at the moment since Sony takes the time to listen to fans and developers.

Xbox Is Not Your Friend

After laying off almost 2,000 people, Xbox finds itself in a position at odds with the community-first image it has cultivated for itself.

TwoPicklesGood4h ago

lol I’m not a big MS gamer but Sony and a number of others have laid off ton of people as well. Where are the ridiculous articles about them not being your friend? Gaming news is such a joke and these sites wonder why they have to beg for money/patreons or flood with 5x more ads.

Profchaos3h ago

I think the sentiment is corporations are there to make money they are not out friends that are harsh and cutthroat when lt comes to the bottom line so why do we proclaim our love for any gaming company from the rooftops when they wouldn't care about us unless we are buying the next thing.

We need to beore objective with how we view these "teams"

Gridknac2h ago

This is the absolute truth. The only part of you these companies, ALL companies, want to be friends with is your bank account. They don't care what they have to say, who's job they have to cut, or what shady underhandedness they must engage in. Bottom line is all that matters.

Vits1h ago

Because people unfortunately make these companies and products part of their own persona, so when they are scrutinized, they see it as an attack on themselves. There is some neuropsychological research around this phenomenon, but it basically has the same effect as religion. It helps foster a sense of community that humans need to feel comfortable. So that is not happening unless we have a sudden surge of people actually understanding how they work and taking control of themselves.

Magatsuhi1h ago

While it's true Sony isn't a friend either, let's not pretend that they're even in the same ballpark as MS's anti consumer practices. Sony is not a friend but atleast they're not an enemy like MS.

derek1h ago

@twopickles, were you not paying attention? Sony was heavily criticized when they laid off people weeks ago, more than Microsoft did with their massive abk layoffs.

Gamingsince19811h ago

I want to know who thought Xbox was community first anyway lmfao

ChasterMies38m ago

That’s Whataboutism. Sony and other game companies didn’t pay more than $80B to buy up publishers. Microsoft said in court that it wasn’t going to have redundancies and fire people. Microsoft told Xbox owners that they would have a AAA on GamePass each quarter. But here we are with Microsoft Game Studios shrinking. Consolidation doesn’t benefit the consumer, and no company has consolidated more than Microsoft.

BehindTheRows34m ago(Edited 33m ago)

Exactly. They love their SonyToo instead of looking at everything in its totality. You spend $80B to buy up so many pubs/devs, you damn well should have something to show for it.

That said, this article is old and someone is clearly looking for clicks!

z2g3m ago

I’m glad you see the thru the reality distortion field so many on this site don’t. My brother-in-law was just let go from PlayStation (here in PV/LA) literally just weeks ago after taking the job just 2 months before. He quite his previous job that was doing just fine to work for Sony.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 3m ago
cthulhucultist2h ago

ok here is a reality check. Tech companies have been firing thousands of employees the last couple of years.

I find it odd that the percentage of employees sacked from MS

QUOTE
"Microsoft announced approximately 1,900 job cuts across its gaming division, including Activision Blizzard, ZeniMax, and Xbox. 8.6% of its colossal 22,000-strong global workforce. "

is worth writing an article condemning the company, when Sony Interactive fired 8% of its workforce (900 people approximately).

https://news.crunchbase.com...

Is the writer concerned about the percentage of the workforce fired or the number of employees?

Lets not forget that Unity laid off 25 percent of its workforce (1800 people) and Discord laid off 17 percent of its employees.

You also have to take into account the AI issue reported in the article. MS is heavily invested in A.I. They have invested in Open A.I (chatgpt 4+Dalle 3), in Abu Dhabi’s G42 and in French AI company Mistral.

These LLMs have already replaced thousands of jobs as A.I usage becomes more common

https://www.cbsnews.com/new...
https://www.theverge.com/20...
https://tech.co/news/compan...

This is the new reality. Even nvidia CEO said that games will fully A.I generated.

https://www.pcgamer.com/sof...

Nevertheless, no company should be ever viewed as "your friend". MS had numerous anti consumer practices in place and the same is true for Sony (not only in video game space) and Nintendo (60$ dollar games without permanent discounts, remasters of 10 year old game with full price, no console price cuts, expensive joy cons which are prone to drift, to name but a few).

Popsicle2h ago

Must be. Thought it to be common knowledge that no corporation is your friend.

rippermcrip2h ago

Xbox had a community-first image? Since when?

I think Microsoft and other game publishers are letting people go because they think ai will replace them. Doesn’t matter how much profit they make. They were always going to be let go.

PassNextquestion14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France was made up of roughly 15 people... they couldn't of being doing much

Bethesda France mainly did publishing and marketing within the region

blacktiger12h ago

that's a shame for you to say that, i'm sure Elite loves hearing what you just said.

Profchaos14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Bethesda France focused on publishing and marketing in the region. And 15 people lost their jobs as part of the closure.

I wonder if this is part of Microsoft's strategy to abandoned physical media or possibly gamepass advertising makes their roles redundant you don't need to market a game as hard when the majority of players get the game as part of a sub which already promoted upcoming games

Tacoboto14h ago

It's France too, there's a high likelihood only 1-2 people on the team even had an Xbox.

Profchaos13h ago

Possibly guven all the leaks we know the Xbox brand is really struggling in the region.

Yi-Long10h ago

Well, if your consoles and games are barely found in any stores any more, of course you're gonna struggle finding consumers ...

XiNatsuDragnel13h ago

Tbh Microsoft I think Bethesda being 3rd party same with Activision would probably more competitive than thus scenario imo

Profchaos11h ago(Edited 11h ago)

I think it would have been better for all parties really especially gamers

TheColbertinator12h ago

The recently purchased Activision French offices might take over all the licensing and marketing for Microsoft in France from now on.

Xbox's Preservation Step Sets A Much-Needed Example, Especially For Nintendo

Hanzla from eXputer inquires: "If Xbox can care about preserving its games and legacy, what exactly is wrong with Nintendo, trying to kill game preservation single-handedly?"

purple10111d ago

Ahh yes the good old game preservation of saving all your games to a removable hhd on the Xbox 360, taking it round your mates house, setting up multiple tvs to
Be met with “save data corrupted, please re download”

Or how about removing 360 games
From the store
, download them now or else, and, better hope to god that save data doesn’t corrupt, or it’s lost for ever

Nice one ☝️

Zeref11d ago

It's better than what Nintendo and Playstation is doing. It might not be perfect but at least they are TRYING. Unlike the others.

DarXyde11d ago

Trying? Take off the blinders for a moment, mate.

1. A failure to preserve games is just that: a failure to preserve games. Don't try to sugarcoat it: NO ONE is doing it properly. Better than awful is nothing to write home about.

2. At the time of this comment, isn't it the case that you need an internet connection to play Xbox games even if you buy physical discs that are hardly in circulation anymore? I don't have a Series X and I can't verify, but I think that is correct. I'm fairly certain you can at least play PS5 games at version 1.0 (not much of a win really when many games require day one patches). I think Microsoft's all digital, licensing approach is by far more aggressive than anyone else's. They really try to push you to game pass where you lose your entire library by umm.... Skipping a month of payments.

I don't think anyone is doing it right whatsoever. Don't get me started on Nintendo, who goes after anyone looking to preserve their games better than they ever would with extreme litigation.

Don't be a simp for any of these companies. Get it together.

PhillyDonJawn11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

@DarX never speak on Xbox again. You lost all credibility with your internet connection comment. Smh you have 0 clue and misinformed yet speaking on something you don't no squat about.

Einhander197211d ago

What has Sony done exactly? You guys keep deflecting to Sony but I am not actually seeing any results, and ai am certain nothing that you can come up with even comes close to what Microsoft has done and what they have tried and failed to do, like tie all your disks to your account on xbone.

Microsoft removed their whole indie section when they moved to the xbone because they were going to only allow games on the service that came from a publisher, id@xbox started after xbone launched and it only exists because Sony embraced indie and Microsoft was forced to cancel their plans and reverse course.

And every single game that was part of games for windows live including disk games (I have gta 4 on disk that won't work) so hundreds of games that use that DRM no longer work unless the company themselves patched it out which of course very few did.

MrBaskerville11d ago

Not trying. Tried. they killed of the backcomp program years ago. They set something up again, but sounds like it's more of an attempt to save the current library on whatever they are planning next. With luck they save everything and more, but let's see. I could see them killing off parts of the OG xbox and 360 libraries. Can't imagine that they would allow us to play Forza 5-7 in the future.

With that said, I do like what they've done and really wish they could have done more.

shinoff218310d ago

Zeref

So killing off physical media is trying what exactly. Ms don't really give a fk if you think they do your kidding yourself.

Profchaos10d ago

They are not trying this team is established for forward compatability the team is. It interested in preserving Xbox or 360 games.

isarai11d ago

Is that why Hellblade 2 is digital only?

Zeref11d ago

Just because it's digital only doesn't mean you can't preserve it. Just put it on an external and you have the exact same functionality of what a disc does.

MrNinosan11d ago

Guess you're trolling, but if you actually think that's how it works, I'd recommend buying some braincells.

mkis00710d ago (Edited 10d ago )

Volitile vs nonvolitile data. A disc will not corrupt either. A drive can be corrupted.

Einhander197211d ago

This is just a scammy PR move to distract from the fact they are going digital only and trying to push streaming and subscriptions only.

No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft.

Without discs there is no preservation, preservation can't be done by the rights holders it can only be done by the consumers, anything else is a lie.

Einhander197211d ago

11d ago
Zeref11d ago

Do you know you can put your games on an external and preserve them that way? There are no benefits to discs. ZERO. Idk why some of you are still obsessed with them.

DarXyde11d ago

Because games like Persona 5 exist. It's STILL V1.00. On Playstation, that's a win because 1.00 is installed on the disc—no need to download anything.

If a game does not require any updates, it's all on the disc.

Extremely low bar in the modern era, of course. It's not much of a win by any stretch.

But for now, physical media does have a purpose, at least on Playstation.

Einhander197211d ago

That is factually not how game licensing works, try plugging your hard drive into someone else xbox, It's not going to work, and it won't work if the licensing servers ever go down.

Einhander197211d ago

Anyone remember games for windows live.

I have around a dozen games, some on Steam itself that will not work because Microsoft shut off the licensing servers.

BehindTheRows11d ago (Edited 11d ago )

I do. I STILL have games (Gears of War being the big one) I cannot access because Games for Windows LIVE is total garbage and no one has held Microsoft accountable.

Zeref10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership.

Chevalier10d ago

"You don't have an Xbox apparently. Because you can 100 percent plug in your external and play games from it on any Xbox console lol. You just have to be logged in to prove ownership."

Damn how many times do people got to explain your idiocy to you? You can take a copy of Persona 5 like someone used as an example and play that game on ANY console WITHOUT logging in which means I can lend the game to a friend without internet and they can play my game. Can you lend your hard drive to anyone without logging in for them to play? NOPE. That is a huge difference and if you think otherwise then sorry you're an idiot.

Tacoboto11d ago

"No gaming company has pushed harder to remove ownership than Microsoft."

Ubisoft is literally erasing games people bought from their libraries... My PS1-3 discs are useless on modern hardware. Nintendo's re-published and resold almost their entire Wii U library, and the eShop is completely dead with no BC mechanism in the Switch software. Microsoft publishes everything they make today day one on Steam and Xbox/Windows. Sony only brings to PC the titles they think you might want some years later and Nintendo won't even design a functional long-lasting joystick.

You're absolutely trolling and not serious if you think Microsoft today is the worst offender.

shinoff218310d ago

Yay steam

Not everyone fks with computers though. The disc is still the best way as a console player. Period.

Tacoboto10d ago

Nobody wants this. Sales or the lack of it in the case of XBOX is very telling. I wonder how the adorably all digital series X will fare. Adorably dismal perhaps?

crazyCoconuts11d ago

Only time will tell, but for from someone like me suspecting that Xbox is trying to gracefully exit the console market, that "forward compatibility" team is trying to get Xbox games playing on Windows PCs. I mean, it's nice that they're not planning on exiting with a "enjoy your games while the hardware still works" message, so that's nice. They still have a brand to protect via Microsoft so probably feel obligated to have a better exit strategy.

Xeofate10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

That is not their plan, their plan is to transfer users accounts to the cloud.

Phil Spencer himself said as much a few months back, plans could have changed but I think people are reading way too much into one statement where Phil said he would allow Epic on xbox because he wants to be able to sell xbox games directly on other platforms. Aka, instead of selling Sea of Thives through PSN he wants to have an xbox store to sell his games on PlayStation without giving PlayStation any money.

Again, it's extremely unlikely that Phil plans to put PC on xbox and licensing would prevent them from just giving out other publishers games purchased on xbox copies of thier games on PC, Microsoft does not own their games.

crazyCoconuts10d ago

The thing that doesn't align with the cloud strategy is the giving up on exclusives. You'd still need strong exclusives for cloud streaming - it's still a "platform" , just with a lower upfront hardware investment. I feel like they've learned what PS learned with PSNow long ago. We're not ready to stream games and it's only gonna lose them money to try at this point

FinalFantasyFanatic10d ago

I would love that, I'd buy up some of the Xbox games if they could run on PC, like the Rare Replay, Lost Odyssey and Dead or Alive Ultimate, probably a pipe dream though.
