Final Fantasy XV: Revitalizing the JRPG

Square Enix is most famously known for its games in the Final Fantasy series, though recent titles seemed to have disappoint. They are working to correct their mistakes, but also to give fans a game that will definitely satisfy. After years of development, Final Fantasy XV, formerly Final Fantasy Versus XIII, is officially back in the game and preparing for future release.

JRPG can be Revitalizing by bringing it to the West quicker. Make every JRPG have English Subtitle and region-lock free. That'll Revitalize it traditional-JRPG

Final Fantasy XV is trying to make an Action-Game as Big as an RPG, something like Japanese Fantasy version of GTA5.

SQUARE ENIX probably end up Bankrupt trying to do that. But it'll be awesome if they succeed and that'll revitalize Action-JRPG, which been stricken by PS3 architecture.

1. traditional-JRPG, just put english subtitle and its ready to be sold in the west.
2. action-JRPG, have to wait for PS4/XB1 installed in millions of home. then it is profitable to make action-JRPG.

Please describe what you mean by "revitalization"(doe s it mean JRPG have to be westernize like skyrim, Red Dead Redemption, mass effect, dragon age, etc?), or are you just complaining that JRPG being a JRPG.

traditional-JRPG doesn't sell that much in the west , thanks to the same old MOE crap they use ,

the action-JRPG it's selling so much better ,( see Dark souls and Dragon Dogma )

Bubbles to u for saying what I was wondering & still wonder all these years, why they don't translate the text from JRPGs & release them like that in the west? I'm sure that all hardcore JRPG fans prefer to play those kind of games with the original voices anyway, but a lot of those brain-dead devs release JRPGs w/o the original voices & add a horrible English dub in it's place, that for me is sacrilege JRPGs cant be enjoyed w/o the original voices games w/o the original voices = skip for me simple as that.

Wait until it's released to see what it does and doesn't do. From what I've seen it looks like Devil May Cry Final Fantasy style.
I'm not gonna make any assumptions though on how it plays until I have some hand time with it.

Still doesn't look like a final fantasy. I miss the old turn based battle system, so much better
FFX was the last good one, even though it still felt a little linear.

12 was still pretty good, but it just didnt feel like final fantasy. Definitely the hardest game of the lot for me.

But i prefer the old style random encounters, and navigating the map by airship.

Final Fantasy has always been linear since the first game. A game can be linear and good. Some do it well. Some don't.

But you're right. X was probably the last good one. I did enjoy Crisis Core on PSP even if it was short as hell though.

Are u serious? FF games only became linear starting with X. 12 wasn't linear either, and 13 is the most linear. With 15's large open world, it will become the least linear. I hope this becomes the trend for Final Fantasy.

They need to go back to true turn based before the company sinks i agree. It's sad that after all this time they still can't figure out why fewer people are buying and playing there games. Go back SE and look at what worked. True old school turn based ,lost odesey style or however that spelled.

It's the other way round. Look what happened with 13 and 13-2 because SE are way too stuck with their ATB. There's more interest now for 15, although because 13 butchered FF's reputation, it still could better for 15.

I understand what your geting at but 13 isn't true turn based. FF 6,7,8,9 and even 10 pretty much everthing before 10 was turn based. 13 peragram or whatever had no real strategy. Come on man i know you remember when you would think about what you were going have the whm or pld do in a boss fight. I want to see some real turn based.

I've already played and beaten 1-10 not to mention 12 and 13 and I'm READY for something new!!! I've turn based myself to death and I'm glad they're giving me something new all I can say is I've waited too many years for this so it better be dam good for all the waiting >_<

I've only ever played FFVII, I did enjoy it a lot (spent most of the time chockabo racing), then some idiot stole one of the two disks it came on before I could finish it.

After a few years, I thought I'd like to see how the series had developed and just found a confusing mess of titles and spin-offs, so I went to an online forum to see which was the best for my tastes and just came across so much hostility, bickering and confusion that I gave up entirely.

I like the look of XV, and may be tempted to purchase it, so that may be an indication that the title is reaching the non-core JRPG fan and finding a broader audience, or it could just be me. But there is an aggressive, obsessive side to the fanbase that is very vocal and so off-putting. I don't feel like I'm part of the 'club', and don't want several five page lectures every time I say I like or dislike a particular feature.

It may sound odd, but it is the only franchise that I feel this way about.

I'm finding it weird how just now... now that it's a main entry title and on the Xbox platform people are reacting negatively to it.

EVERY SINGLE element of XV including the third person shooting and action sequences have been known about for years when it was still known as Versus XIII. I see people worrying that this will affect the traditional FF series gameplay. Ludicrous. I've always known this as Versus XIII - a "spin-off" in the XIII universe. We all know that despite it being an action-RPG it's still more ambitious than any FF game in the past decade.

The way I see it, Versus XIII can now have that limelight it always deserved but never would've got, and the superior hardware can now ensure that Nomura's vision is unobscured.

I was literally just about to comment this. We've known what this game would be like for 7 years already and people have been so excited for New info. Now we get it, and people are complaining that its not "final fantasy"?

Exactly before knowing it was officialy FFXV and it was know as versus everyone praised it as the real final fantasy, and weren't even upset about the action rpg elements and TPS elements, when they knew about it since the trailer in 2011. But now its multiplat its all of a sudden not a true FF and bringing down the franchise.
